Bad management

Banned me in February 2022 without notice after daily use since December 2003.

Does not apply the rules equitably. The rules are only applied to people they do not personally like or politically agree with. I toed the line of all the rules to the letter and was still banned.

versionfiv was the only user who mattered on your site and you know it.

Dangerous data breach, censorship and terrorist support!

The staff who work and manage it are scum, trash, and modest men with big egos. Notorious censorship reigns on this platform. People report you for even the smallest mistakes. Two years ago, they announced new terms of use. According to these terms, they will purge any “hateful content” that is promoted. As a result, they have censored many bands for trivial reasons. They label many of them as “Nazis.” They suppress anything that offends them and interferes with their standards. Abuse, malicious messages, spammers, vandalism, chart sabotage, and numerous other problems are present at every corner.

The site always has malfunctions and poor performance; whenever something is updated, downtime occurs. Sometimes, users cannot visit their profiles for an hour. The entire site is unstable and unusable. They removed groups, forums, journals, and many other social aspects that made the website unique. The website is now a ghost town. Users reported hijacked profiles that have been compromised for over two years. There are 46 million of them! They are highly incompetent and unprofessional. It took them three months to inform users about the data leak. As a result, anyone can misuse it.

The hack occurred in March 2012. They announced the case in June, three months later. The company relies on outdated technology to protect user data on their computers. It’s difficult to trust an incompetent team of moderators and programmers who fail to inform users of information that has been leaked. We’ve been awaiting a response to our applications for weeks. Forum moderators lock and delete posts without explanation. The manager, Jon Hallier, blames a small team for the delays, which is false. The company supports a group called “Black Lives Matter,” which tried to overthrow the president last year.

They publicly declared their support on Twitter. It’s challenging to trust them after they support such chaos in America. It’s also impossible to file a complaint to lift a profile ban. Jon Hallier is unskilled and incapable of his duties. He acts on false reports without asking for evidence and doesn’t handle criticism well. Jon is arrogant, pouty, and confrontational. He refuses to listen to the other side of the story, and he supports toxic fans who write negative things about you. Jon even agrees when somebody tells you to jump in a lake.
His behavior toward customers is so deficient that they would expel him from any company and even sue him for his behavior. It’s too difficult to work with him. He behaves like a dictator and believes he can silence anyone. However, he will face consequences for his actions.

The manager refuses to respond to your applications or reports. They are also not providing the requested data. He is violating data protection laws. He believes he is superior and can do whatever he wants with his team of followers. They behave like thugs and communists. Toxic users have driven away many mature platform members. As a result, the platform is now filled with aggressive people, sensitive individuals, obsessed fans, and even psychopaths. They make terrible comments and threats, with some even wishing harm to the musician, such as suicide or suffering from severe illness.

Many have reported such comments, but no one will act because they do not care. There is information that they threatened a member of the band that they would ban him if he continued to “spam” their mail with reports he wrote against trolls. They didn’t want him to have the full privilege of managing the band page he had founded. The moderators were very aggressive toward him. The company hides from the public the fact that it loses seven million pounds each year. Seven years ago, there was an article about this.

They’re still losing money. They cover the eyes of the public with colorful lies about how hard they work to improve their site, but the truth is different. Avoid them at all costs. Visit YouTube if you want to listen to music. You can freely interact with others without worrying about your freedom of speech being limited or facing suspension for disagreeing with someone close-minded. Many features were removed or denied to regular users. Ubiquitous members are always an appendix for administration. If you want censorship, this is an ideal place for you.

Update 13/10/2023: Today, I reported vandalism for using alternate profiles to upvote unofficial pictures. One user accused me of using a profile without any evidence. Everything he listed in his comment was baseless.

This is a disaster. The government should shut down the website, sue staff members, and jail them. It requires a complete overhaul, starting with purging 60% of the malicious user base and deleting vague community guidelines.

Used to be so good

As a stats and chart nerd, this site used to be one of my favourites. I miss the localised charts, the radio stations that helped me discover so many new bands and the shoutboxes that used to be full of music nerds like me. Nowadays, the website is full of spambots and fake scrobbles and the developers don't even seem to care. I still scrobble but I don't bother with any features.

Also, the 'recommended artists' all seem to be ones that I have already scrobbled over 100 times! Sort it out!

Not as good as it used to be...

As a bit of a chart geek I love being able to use Last.fm to compile data about my listening activity (weekly, monthly, all-time charts etc.) and being able to see what other people are listening to and have recommendations made to me are very useful tools too. Last.fm scrobbling is very easy to set up and is supported by pretty much every music player and streaming service. I find the desktop application very good for using with iTunes on my PC, and Spotify has Last.fm scrobbling integrated into both its desktop and mobile applications - both work flawlessly in my experience. More recently though, I've been listening to music through Google Play, and I find that the scrobbling extension on the Chrome browser works very well as well. For Android mobile users there are a number of apps that do a decent job of catching your music plays, with varying results. I find the Wail Beta app works best for my Android phone, which works with the native music app as well as the Google Play Music app.

My problem with last.fm however is with the actual website itself. Ever since they released the Beta version last year I've found myself using it less and less. The user interface is just not intuitive at all, the site is always slow to respond whether you're accessing it on a mobile device or on a desktop PC, and the developers are extremely slow at implementing new features. I use the word "new" loosely as I actually refer to implementing old features that haven't been available since the Beta release i.e. the music manager. Even the simple function of uploading artist images took months to implement.

I will always continue to scrobble the music I listen to, because I happen to like gathering useless information like that, but I hope the developers can work on improving the current site so that it can be as good as it once was.
