Their bathroom sink is a triumph of…

Their bathroom sink is a triumph of design over function. The plug is so over designed neither me nor the plumber can get it to work for long. The plug has its own adjustment spanner and complicated list of fitting instructions. Its just a plug for goodness sake.

Ridiculously overpriced priced for poor quality and devious lying customer service

I purchased a very expensive vanity unit and basin from Laufen from their 'New Classic' range. This unit was not on display in various local showrooms but other Laufen models were and all had good quality soft close hinges. For some reason the New Classic range is twice as expensive as all the other vanity units and basins in the Laufen Catalogue. The unit and basin cost me nearly £2k so I assumed that the quality was at least as good if not better than the units in the showrooms. You can imagine my bitter disappointment when this supposedly premium product arrived with poor quality push close drawer runners which are very clunky and do not reflect the luxury that I expected having spent so much. B&Q vanity units have better drawer runners. I assumed there must be some fault or mistake so contacted Laufen UK sending a video of the clunky drawers. I was told:

"After looking at them, it appears that the drawers are working correctly, and the 'soft close' element will get smoother with use"

What a load of rubbish!.... and a complete lie! These draw runners are NOT soft close, they are push close and to imply that they will get better with use is an insult on my intelligence. I emailed back to tell them as much.

Laufen UK then came back saying:

"I have sent your enquiry over to the factory, who have advised that unfortunately, there are no 'soft close' runners that will fit the unit in question.

Again an complete load of rubbish! Firstly, you have now changed your story of the soft close hinges "getting better with use" and now they are not soft close because they can't be used? Are you just making things up as you go along to fob off the customer?

Can you imagine having soft close hinges on your standard products and then having the cheek to say that your premium range which costs over 2 times more has to have push close because none exist that fit? Really!??

So I would say two things to anyone wanting to use Laufen.

1. Don't buy the Laufen New Classic vanity unit. It is cheap and badly made and you can buy a superior product for a quarter of the price.

2. Don't expect a reasonable or truthful response from their customer service who will say anything to get out of resolving a resolvable problem and treat you like so e sort of idiot.

UPDATE December 2025
I have spoken with my carpenter and he has purchased and fitted replacement soft close drawer runners supplied by the same company (Blum) that Laufen use. So their excuse that soft close drawers are not possible for this unit was, as I suspected, a complete lie!

I contacted Laufen to ask if they would like to reimburse the cost that I have paid from my pocket to bring their product up to standard but they declined! Not surprising

Be warned. Go elsewhere.
