Very rude staff, they treat customers poorly and with no reasonable care.
In my experience Lidl offer good quality products for relatively less prices. I have enjoyed most of the products I purchase from Lidl, and I appreciate their variety and the clubcard perks. But unfortunately, their service leaves much more to be desired, at least at this branch in my experience. I hope they can work on treating customers with reasonable respect, and objectivity.
I did some shopping in the store, paid, went out the exit, and immediately went back in to check for an italian salad mix to buy, but they didn't have it at this branch so I decided to go back out again. I didn't take anything, and I didn't even go past the salad section, but a male staff member who seemed to have been around the entrance aisles suddenly intercepted me on my way out of the store in a rude and intimidating manner.
While talking to the male member of staff, a female staff member who was at the self-checkout tills came over and ransacked my bags without asking me, and she took out my personal belongings and loudly accused me of shoplifting some beef. She put her hands in my bags and took my things out with no warning.
I can understand if there have been incidents in the past in the shop, and I am calmly informed and forewarned and asked politely. I would be happy to cooperate, but if someone is suspected of shoplifting, surely there are more civil ways to go about it than yelling that the person is a shoplifter and should be punished, while ransacking the customers' bags without permission and taking out their personal belongings in public with no consideration. That's not right.
The experience was very unpleasant and unprofessional, and I'll try not to go on a tirade about this, but it did in fact happen to me a few days ago in the Sydenham Road branch of Lidl, on Thursday 20.11.25 at about 11.42am. I made a complaint and the customer services representatives apologised and said some training will be actioned by the area manager on the staff involved, which I hope helps prevent other customers from suffering the demeaning treatment I was subjected to at Lidl. But it doesn't take away the trauma and humiliation left by such an experience. Especially because the staff involved did not apologise in person, it made me feel unvalued as a customer in their premises.
I am upset because I was treated with a lack of reasonable care, the experience was demeaning, and there was no accountability from the staff involved. The lack of accountability from the staff that indimidated, slandered, and ransacked me is unacceptable.
Every time I go to Lidl Sydenham Road London I regret why I went there.
The people who work there are very rude and treat customers like garbage.Lidl needs to do something about those gangs they employed.
For me I finished with Lidl no more shopping from them anymore
