No suitable shopping baskets for wheelchair users who need a small shopping basket
Lidl obviously don't expect disabled people who are in wheelchairs to shop independently on their own in their stores. I went to my local Lidl in Great Bridge for the first time this morning. Once inside the store, I looked for a small hand-held shopping basket (like they have in ASDA and Tesco), that I could put onto my lap whilst sat in my wheelchair, so that I could shop for a few small items and easily put them into the basket. After not finding such a basket, I asked the checkout assistant, who confirmed that Lidl only have push along shopping trolleys or the large blue plastic shopping crates on wheels. A wheelchair user such as myself would not be able to use either of these. I told the assistant that this was not very helpful for customers shopping alone in their wheelchairs. The assistant offered to get the manager to see if they could get a box or something I could use instead. I told the assistant not to bother and that I would take my custom elsewhere. Needless to say, I shall never venture into a Lidl supermarket again. No thought given by Lidl to customers in wheelchairs who want to be independent and shop unaccompanied in their stores.
