Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 1,164 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many patrons frequently described deeply frustrating encounters involving rude staff members, long checkout waits, and unhelpful customer service channels when attempting to resolve important issues. Furthermore, people expressed severe disappointment regarding consistently poor product quality across various categories, frequently discovering spoiled fresh groceries, damaged packaging, or unexpected price increases. However, some customers also noted that certain unique food items, such as freshly prepared bakery goods and specialty sandwiches, pleasantly exceeded their daily expectations. Good staff in my local store in east lothian…

Staff in my local store in east lothian are great. Produce and range of products is pretty good. The new rewards programne designed by lidl corporate is really poor. I used to easily get £10-20 after spendung £250pm i used it in a big end of month shop. Not just on 1 Oct.

LIDL HAVE GONE BAD.

LIDL HAVE GONE BAD.
THERE PRICES HAVE SHOT UP, THEY ARE NOT PARTICULARLY ANY CHEAPER THAN OTHER BIG CHAINS.
NOT MANY OTHER BRANDS OF FOOD.
THERE BAKERY ISNT STOCKED MUCH AFTER 4PM
WHAT I HAVE NOTICED IS THERE FRUIT & VEG GOES BAD VERY QUICKLY, DOSN'T LAST LONG AT ALL.
I AM SURE THEY BUY OFF THE SUPPLIERS THE STUFF THAT IS ALMOST PAST ITS CONSUME BY DATE.
BUT MORE ANNOYING IS YOU CANNOT GET ANY SIGNAL IN LIDL WEDNESBURY.
SO YOU GET TO TILL TO SCAN LIDL PLUS, AND CANT GET ONTO THE APP, NOT GOOD IF YOU HAVE COUPONS TO USE.
HAVE TO LEAVE SHOPPING TO GO OUTSIDE SHOP TO GET A SIGNAL.

One cashier is not enough

I’ve just been in Lidl Carlisle, I got the things I needed, very good, then I went to the cashier. One long queue, only one cashier and no self service. I put my goods back.
This isn’t a one off unfortunately.

LIDL gone to the dogs

I used to love shopping at LIdl but was shocked at how bad it has become. I went in to buy 5 products and never got one of them. Could not move for trolleys full of boxes blocking the isles. The fridge units were leaking water onto the floor and to cap it all, i spent 10 mins looking for an assistant but to no avail. Went back 5 days in a row but the same. Terrible experience. Visited Lidl in Lithuania last month and was a fantastic experience. The store I am talking about is Lidl, Greenock, Scotland. Will not be back.

Really horrible degrading experience at Shepherds Bush and that's just trying to buy some food.
Had to join the massive self service queue as no tills open.
Machine kept stalling and assistant telling me off for asking for help... Getting really wound up and being filmed and played back on screen.
Had it with lidl. Not worth it anymore. Save penny's, get treated like a criminal.

Extremely Disappointing and Humiliating Treatment of a Disabled Customer at Lidl Stratford – Store 1558

Extremely Disappointing and Humiliating Treatment of a Disabled Customer at Lidl Stratford – Store No. 1558
On 22 September 2026, at approximately 2:20 pm, I experienced extremely disappointing treatment at Lidl Stratford, located at 41–42 Stratford Centre, London E15 1XE.
I am a disabled woman suffering from multiple serious health conditions and severely limited mobility. I use a walking stick, and even ordinary shopping requires considerable physical effort on my part.
After finishing my shopping, I approached a self-service checkout clearly marked as accepting both card and cash payments. There was no warning or indication that cash payments were unavailable. Only after I had removed my backpack, put down my shopping bags and taken my products out of the basket did a member of staff inform me that I could not pay in cash at that checkout.
I was forced to gather all my purchases and personal belongings again and move to another part of the checkout area.
A Lidl employee then personally directed me to checkout No. 25, which, as I subsequently discovered, was apparently the only functioning checkout accepting cash payments.
I waited my turn and prepared my purchases for scanning.
To my complete disbelief, two Lidl employees began using the very same checkout, even though I was already standing there with my purchases ready. When I asked what was happening, I was told that the other person was a Lidl employee and that he had priority.
I found this treatment extremely offensive, humiliating and unfair, particularly considering that I was visibly using a walking stick.
The situation became even worse when the checkout's weight sensors prevented me from starting the scanning process because of my personal belongings placed in the checkout area.
Instead of receiving the necessary practical assistance, I was forced to carry my backpack, hold two shopping bags, manage my walking stick, scan my products and complete the payment, all at the same time.
I was physically exhausted and extremely distressed. While trying to organise my purchases and personal belongings, my walking stick fell on one side of the checkout, while my sunglasses, which I need for medical reasons, fell on the other side.
Following this incident, I submitted a formal complaint to Lidl.
In its written responses, the company acknowledged several serious failings, including the lack of appropriate signage on checkouts that were not accepting cash, the failure to provide timely assistance, the inappropriate interruption of my checkout by employees, and the failure to promptly perform a manual weight override that would have allowed me to avoid holding my personal belongings.
Lidl also confirmed that a technical problem affecting cash payments had occurred on the day of my visit.
Despite these acknowledgements, the company initially refused to offer compensation in what it described as its final response.
For me, this was not simply an unpleasant shopping experience. What happened raises serious concerns about store accessibility, the treatment of disabled customers, and the practical assistance provided to customers with limited mobility when using self-service checkouts.
I believe that disabled people, elderly customers and everyone who experiences mobility difficulties deserve to be treated with dignity, patience, respect and humanity.
I am sharing my experience publicly because I sincerely hope Lidl will take these issues seriously and implement the necessary measures to ensure that other customers are not placed in a similar situation.

Bought a bottle of John Barr whisky…

Bought a bottle of John Barr whisky from Shirebrook store as in area but 20 miles from home. Got home and in the evening facied a tipple, upon opening the bottle it had a cap in like a vinegarette bottle so i could not pour it contacted customer services to advise them this still waiting for a reply. I took back to store next day at my expense having asked for reimbursement fron Lidl under Sake of Goods Act 1979 and as amended 1994.
I would never shop here again, no respinse, not custoner focused, more interested in profit than maintainting a lotal customer base.
Avoid these onanists at all costs.

Never had cause to complain until now

Never had cause to complain until now. We have noticed over the last few months of out of date food on the shelves or short shelf life and fruit and veg not very good. Today was the worse. We bought fruit yesterday which was hard peaches and green bananas to give some sled life, and tangerines were soft. Today, bananas were brown, peaches were soft and all bad inside, tangerines were hard. This is fruit too long in a fridge, there was no shelf life date on any one of them. The meat is not as good as it was. Sorry, I’ll only be shopping in there for the textile products in future! By the way, Morrisons are not far behind these.

Appalling Quality!

I have shopped at Sainsburys for 20+ years but thought I would give a new Lidl store in East Grinstead a try for a large weekly shop, I wish I hadn't bothered! Apples, tomatoes, melon, all rotten and inedible with 3 days. A loaf of bread had livid green mould the size and shape of a thumbprint(urgh.......!) after 3 days. Luckily I didn't try the meat, fish or poultry........I didn't fancy a trip to A&E!
At checkout I was charged 5 times the advertised price for one item which I spotted once in the carpark.......in fairness, they did refund this but I could easily have missed it.

Lidl's own Chicken and Gravy pie

Lidl's own Chicken and Gravy pie.
I wasn't expecting a lot of chicken because most pies are very scant. I did expect 25% chicken and what I got was a lot of gravy and six very small cubes not even the size of an oxo cube. The picture on the packaging is extremely misleading and like many stores should be reviewed by the ASA (Advertising Standards Agency)

Zero stars for the Romford store and Lidl for not handling this serious issue

Zero stars for this awful company and stores. They clearly have no respect nor value for customers that they need to SERVE not abuse and we pay their wages, salaries, contractors and their profit depends on us as customers. They clearly find their staff in the dump.

Threatened and sworn at by security for simply completing a transaction and experienced technical issues on their side— Lidl failed to take it seriously.

This review reflects our own personal, first-hand experience at the Lidl Romford store (Atlantic Boulevard) and is an honest account of what happened to us and how it has since been handled.

My older mother and I were shopping at this store on 31 August 2026 when a security guard shouted at us, swore at us, and threatened us — including telling us he would "drag us out of the shop." A female staff member stood with him laughing and sniggering instead of helping us with a voucher issue at the till. When we asked for their names, both refused. The store manager witnessed all of this and also refused to give us any names, telling us to "Google it."

We reported this formally to Lidl and to the security company, Mitie. Lidl's responses have been generic and repetitive, with no apology and no compensation offered — we were told to seek our own legal advice instead. We've since found out the security guard is still working at this store.

We've reported this to the police and to the Security Industry Authority (SIA), the body that regulates security guards in the UK.

If you've experienced anything similar — rudeness, aggression, or feeling unfairly treated by Lidl staff or security at any store — please don't stay quiet about it. Report it to Lidl's head office directly, and if it involves a security guard, to the SIA too. This kind of treatment of one customer affects how all of us are likely to be treated, and the more people who report it, the harder it is for companies to ignore.

We'd also suggest filming anything similar if it's safe to do so — Lidl's own CCTV is not even preserved and it has not been submitted for review, and getting a proper investigation out of either Lidl or Mitie has taken a lot of pushing. All customer-facing staff and security should be wearing visible name badges, and security guards should be required to wear body cameras, so incidents like this can't happen without any way to hold someone accountable.

Boycott this diabolical, atrocious company and is staff is to blame. It is precisely the reason why companies close down.

Rubbish liquorice allsorts.

Lidl really need to review the quality of some of their sweet confectionery. The Liquorice Allsorts are worse than the cheapest rubbish I’ve ever tasted. They are disgusting. Hardly any liquorice taste, the fondant part is hard, brittle and every one of them tastes the same, and they are like a bag of mis-shapes. Tiny broken pieces, no uniformity bits of sweets in the bottom of the bag. Whoever is responsible for Lidl quality control needs sacking!
