Car park 'fine' of £90

As two other customers reported, we were charged £90 for overstaying. Weren't aware of limit. Actually was sheltering from torrential rain. And bit slow going round as on older side.
(actually happened May 2023, but only just reviewing)
Contacted customer services who were not helpful. Not our car park (so who gave it over to car park managers?) And no, we didn't have charge cleared.
Not all Lidl car parks are like this - one at Norwich just off ndr isn't, and as we live half way between, we go there now.
Suggested adding risk of charge to website, but no response.
But my husband is still worried and almost has panic attack.

No care for their customers

I used to enjoy shopping at Lidl, but that has changed. After spending over £200 in the store, I received a parking fine for exceeding the 90-minute limit by just 13 minutes. I was unaware of this time restriction or the need to scan my receipt to prove I was shopping at Lidl. This must be a new policy because I had never encountered it before.

As a result of this experience, I have decided to stop shopping at Lidl altogether. There are plenty of other options available, so they can say goodbye to my regular shopping trips. I believe that this decision to charge for parking seems poorly thought out, and I think Lidl will ultimately regret implementing it.

Update*
Get in contact with customer care and they might be able to make the charge disappear. That's what I did and it was dealt with. I didn't notice anything had changed in the car parks regarding charges but now I do. Its a harsh lesson but at least I won't forget it if I ever visit again.

Extortionate car park charge

I parked in my local Lidl car park and went in to do some shopping, without realising that there was a tiny 90 minute limit on parking. Lidl contracts its car parks out to private companies, who use confusing signage to bamboozle customers then issue them extortionate charges. Despite being a customer I was charged £90 for overstaying the time limit by 20 minutes. The store manager told me to appeal and said the charge would be dropped if I could show I had a receipt. This hasn’t happened. Lidl customer service refuse to help. What an appalling way to treat loyal customers. I’ll be voting with my feet and i would advise anyone else reading this to do the same. Most supermarkets have three hour parking limits.

Update: after an email to Lidl’s ceo, and to customer service telling them I would be posting a review on trustpilot, and another appeal to parking eye, the charge has been cancelled. Make of that what you will.
