At the checkout we were encouraged to download the Lidl app and were shown how to operate it in order to get discounts on our shop. Jas at the self service till was incredibly helpful. It was the store at Pipps Hill.
**Humiliating Experience at Lidl – Pipp Hills Retail Park**
I have never felt so humiliated while shopping as I did this morning at Lidl, Pipp Hills Retail Park. Before coming to Lidl, I had shopped at Asda, where I purchased a Ferrero Rocher sweet box and two glass jars using the self-checkout, without requesting a receipt.
When I reached the Lidl checkout, the cashier questioned whether the items were from their store. I immediately explained that I had just bought them from Asda and even offered to have the CCTV checked if necessary. Instead of accepting my explanation, she insisted on scanning the items, which, for some reason, registered in the system. She then spoke with her coworker at the self-checkout—a gentleman who previously worked at the Laindon Lidl and has known me as a customer for years.
At this point, both employees began ignoring me. When I directly asked if they were accusing me of stealing, the male employee bluntly responded, “Yes.” This was deeply upsetting and completely unacceptable.
A manager was eventually called, and the moment he arrived, he could tell the packaging was not from Lidl. He apologized for my wait but not for the sheer humiliation I had just experienced. I expressed my frustration, stating that no customer should ever be accused of theft without concrete proof or prior consultation with a manager.
This experience has left me feeling incredibly disappointed. Accusing a loyal customer without proper verification is not just poor customer service—it’s deeply insulting. I hope Lidl takes serious action to ensure staff are trained to handle such situations with professionalism and respect.
