# An Amazing Experience – Especially Seeing “Just Jane” Up Close
I visited the **Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre on Friday 14 August 2026, and it was an amazing experience, particularly being able to get so close to and examine the beautiful Lancaster bomber “Just Jane.”
Just Jane looks absolutely spectacular. I would really like to return on one of the days when they run the engines, as I can only imagine what **four Rolls-Royce Merlin engines** must sound and look like when they are all running together.
The museum is well worth visiting, especially knowing that the admission money helps towards the maintenance and preservation of such a magnificent aircraft.
There was also a de Havilland Mosquito, which is always a very handsome aeroplane to see. I particularly enjoyed walking around the main hangar and reading the stories of the accidents, incidents and fatalities that occurred during the Second World War. They really bring home just how dangerous wartime flying was and how much was sacrificed by the young aircrews of the period.
One story that brought a smile to my face concerned a **German medium bomber that was shot down**. All of the crew managed to parachute to safety, but one of them apparently managed to land directly inside a prisoner-of-war camp. I can only imagine the amount of leg-pulling he must have received from his fellow prisoners for the rest of the war after managing to parachute straight into captivity!
The rest of the museum is also very interesting to explore, with reconstructions of wartime buildings and displays that help give you a feeling for what life at an operational airfield would have been like during the period.
If you have an interest in **Second World War aviation, historic aircraft or the Lancaster in particular**, I would definitely recommend a visit to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre.
**I certainly hope to return, especially to experience Just Jane with all four Merlins running.**
