Unacceptably Poor Workmanship
Four months ago, the owner of The Little Woodshop was asked to build, finish and fit two external doors. The price was on parr with other reputable companies, not cheap. We want to promote local small business so we decided to use him. Once installed both doors leaked through the frames, the steps and the panels. The cat flap had been installed the wrong way round, as had one of the lock mechanisms. Both weather board were warped and did not fit flush to the doors. They had then been fitted with silicone seal and panel pins, not screws. The wrong frame seal was used which was water soluble. Both sills were cut short at one end and was filled with sealant that washed out. As of now it is clear he used damp wood and we now see so much movement that daylight can be seen through the panels, up to 8 mm gaps between the boards in places.
I strongly advise you not to risk using this person. At one point he was proud to tell me his work was 'not bad for only GCSE woodwork'. This may be true. However, it is unacceptably poor quality for any level above.
