We rented a car online for 39 days in total. When we arrived at the airport, everything was smooth: printed the contract and gave us the key (credit card mandatory, no debit card). One of the tire was almost flat but we dealt with it.
When we arrived back, they ask us for an extra 9 days payment because we were apparently supposed to return the car back after 30 days! Out of nowhere, they changed a very small written return date in our contract, while keeping it written in big capitals "39 days contracts". Since we have used a credit card, there is nothing we can do! They are charging us an extra 30% of the price without our consent even though we have all documents showing that we already paid for the full 39 days before that!

The worst experience of my life. I booked the car while in advance for December and when I got to the office in Campo Grande-MS to collect the car, they simply said that my account was blocked and I would need to do another book( no explanation why, no reason as my drive licence, credit card, everything was correct) the price than was double of what I'd had booked for. I had no choice but pay because there were no cars for 7 seats available in any other places due the season. Never again!

Avoid for every price if you’re a forefinger. I paid reservation and they gave my car to someone else. They let me wait for 3 h giving away cars all this time. The main reason was the ladies speak zero English and feel uncomfortable to have any problem solving. I gave up and did not even get the money back. If you find another source boom directly ) localise seem to some sort of monopoly here but best is to book directly but the international provider.

Most flexible, friendly and easy going car rental we ever had! Friendly staff, very flexible return policy and zero hassle about insurance etc. Very well endowed car.
Absolutely great experience.

Localiza was fine, the car was a terrible choice so that's my fault (and Renault the maker!) I would also like to suggest they sort out this "You need more insurance" argument at the renal pick up. I paid for fully comprehensive "Relax it's all covered" insurance on booking the car only to be told you are not covered for damage to a third party in case of an accident. If this was a mistake then they were lying!

Everything was ready at pick up .Car was clean and in very good condition.Staff was friendly, although I should make an observation they should know more than just Portuguese ,but overall I had an excellent experience with Localiza .

In general the service was great, but the shuttle bus driver disappeared with one of our bags, Localiza did not respond to queries, but we went to look for it within 2h. It was not in lost and found and not in the shuttle. Just a warning in case it happens to others. Rio shuttle to SDU

Make your reservation by app. If you do it at servicedesk at airport they try to scam you. I rented from them by app instead and had half the price. At airport they said they only had one car left at pickup 45 min away they had 10+ cars available.

I rented a vehicle from Localiza and had a terrible experience.
1. Delays in releasing the rental.
2. The vehicle delivered was not the one I requested.
3. Extra charges without providing a receipt explaining the reason for the charges.
4. The vehicle was returned three days before the return date, and the refund for those days was not processed correctly.
5. The rented vehicle had a toll tag, but it wasn't activated, causing embarrassment at every toll booth I passed through.
6. Charges for fines without clarifying which fines, the reasons for them, or the locations where they occurred.
No receipt has been given to me to date.

I had one of the worst car rental experiences of my life with Localiza on December 31st.
I made a reservation through the app, but there was no option to choose manual or automatic transmission. Only after signing the contract and paying was I informed the car was manual, previously the app allowed you to actually see what the car’s transmission was, but they changed that. After removing they used to allow you to pick one that was automatic. I do not drive manual cars — I am American and have only driven automatic vehicles my entire life.
The staff said they could not change the car and told me to take it to the Congonhas branch. The agency closed immediately after we left to the building (Localiza garage on the third floor of a mall), leaving us without any support to solve it with them. I did not feel safe driving the car, so it remained parked inside Localiza’s own garage at Shopping Metrô Santa Cruz while the entire shopping completely shut down.
My wife called customer service, they transferred us multiple times and failed to resolve anything. Long story short: They sent us to Congonhas, where we went and were told nothing could be done.
No solution, no accountability, no empathy. Just stress, wasted time, and money lost. Completely unacceptable service.
Desperate to fix the situation, I even paid R$300 to a neighbor to leave his New Year’s celebration, come with me, and help drive the manual transmission car to Congonhas. After all of this, Localiza still charged us a daily rental fee for a car we never used (almost R$700).
When I arrived with my neighbor, I asked they woman at the counter to speak to my wife because when we first came in they said “we do not have any automatic cars left,” my neighbor even confirmed with my wife that that was exactly what they said. When I asked the employee to speak to my wife she rudely said “Why!? Why do I need to speak to your wife.”
We spent 7 hours of our New Years Eve dealing with this nonsense, all while carrying our 4 month old daughter around. What started as the beginning of our vacation and what should be a simple process, turned into a nightmare of a day filled with unexceptional service and a lack of integrity from Localiza’s part. This completely ruined our holiday as we weren’t able to celebrate. Localiza robbed us of this and our peace for an entire day.

For anyone looking to rent a car, I would advise that you use Movida because based on the service here there is no way that Movida’s service could be worse.
Here are some of the times that we rented and how the service has gotten progressively worse:
1st time renting: Fast and okay service (maybe because they take good care of first timers);
2nd time renting: We couldn’t rent on the agency, they had us download the app in front of them to reserve the car from the app (which is absurd because we were standing in front of them), which is a problem because the app doesn’t show certain details like the car’s transmission or the exact make, model or size of the vehicle — which obviously matters when you are traveling. If you could reserve it at the desk they would be able to tell you the exact models they have available.
3rd time renting: We used the app to reserve the car, but still ended up waiting many hours just to finally get the reservation set — mind you, my wife was pregnant and we had to stay standing, usually it isn’t legal not to provide preferencial service to woman who are pregnant.
4th time and it will be the last time: Was what was mentioned above plus they now start to charge using ConnectCar and now they charge you if you go over 400 KMs. Soon enough they will start to charge you by how many times you open the door.
I understand that many foreigners go to them and will just pay these absurd fees, but I would advise any foreigner to use Movida.
Considering the prices that Localiza charges this should come with the most exceptional service available and it comes with the worst customer service experience that I have ever had in my life.

They were so friendly and professional from the moment we got to the rental desk.
The car was clean, and in pristine condition.
A great experience, and a pleasure to rent from them

We rented a car from Localiza on December 31st for a family trip. The booking app didn't allow us to choose between manual or automatic transmission, essential information.
Only after signing the contract and paying were we informed that the car was manual. My husband doesn't drive manual cars; he's American, and it's not standard there. The employees said they couldn't exchange the car at that location and suggested another branch.
The agency closed minutes after we picked up the contract and the key. We were left without assistance. Customer service transferred us several times, the calls dropped, and finally, they sent us to the Congonhas branch—where they said nothing could be done.
The car remains parked in Localiza's own garage, unused. No solution, no accountability.
This caused extreme stress, financial loss, and the risk of missing our trip.
Very disappointing and poorly managed service.

Just go to MOVIDA. It’s so bad and so unsafe regarding the rentals and the personal information that we contacted an attorney and we are suing.

We had to pay at the delivery car wash costs (unexpected extra) which was a big surprise of about 10 euros ( total rental costs was about 600 euros)

Overall ok service, but a bit pricey.
Rented a bunch of cars, one had issues with AC (in Brasilian summer with 35 C+ outside), but they could not fix it.
However their service is bad with certain things:
I've got one speeding fine and there is no way to pay it. I can't

This is a car rental that should come with a warning label. Had a extremely bad experience with the company that left me without a car after arriving late at night at the airport in Mexico City despite having a confirmed reservation. A complete lack of customer service.

0/5 stars - Scam Alert: Localiza Rental Company*
I'm still furiuos about my experience with Localiza. They took advantage of me and my family on multiple levels. First, they charged us an arm and a leg for gas, way above market prices. And to top it off, they tried to rip us off by claiming our kids "damaged" the rear driver seat with dirty footprints. I mean, come on! It's a rental car, not a showroom.
But wait, it gets better... they overcharged us for the car rental itself, quoting SUV prices for a standard vehicle. And when we returned the car, they hit us with an additional $100 in surcharges out of nowhere. We only paid because we were desperate to catch our flight and dealing with a strike in Colombia wasn't exactly an option.
Localiza: if you're looking for a way to lose customers, keep doing what you're doing. We'll never rent from you again, and I'll make sure to tell everyone I know about your shady business practices.

We rented a car in Cartagena on a Monday and were given a vehicle that was restricted by the local “pico y placa” license–plate rules for Monday evenings. Unfortunately, this regulation was not mentioned to us at any point during the rental process. As visitors who were unfamiliar with local traffic restrictions, we only found out about it when we were stopped by the police and had to pay a 500,000 COP fine.
When we returned the car and explained what happened, the staff simply apologized, but no further support or clarification was offered.
I am sharing this experience publicly so that other travelers are aware. Clear communication about local driving restrictions is essential, especially for customers who do not know the area. This situation was extremely frustrating and left us very disappointed.
