A very useful tool for choosing schools
As a parent, I found Locrating very useful in helping us to decide which secondary schools to apply for. We had a shortlist of 5 schools and we used the information provided to decide between them. There are lots of different stats available and the site allows for easy comparison between selected schools. Obviously, you can go to open evenings to get a general feel for a school when it's putting on a show, but the information on Locrating enabled us to go much deeper and feel like we had made a truly informed decision. I would recommend to anyone looking for primary and secondary schools, even if they're intent on just going to the catchment school - they might change their mind when they look closer!

Invaluable information when moving house
Really useful information. I used it when making the move across country to a new area. I wanted to prioritise being in the catchment area for good schools and the information helped me to find exactly where to search. I’m now buying a new house and moving with the confidence my son will have access to great education.

poor user experience on the website
the website is horrible to use. difficult to navigate the school map.. . it often gives you the error "too many items to display" and then you have to zoom in and you're lost! why are you showing some many irrelevant items like restaurants, shops, gas stations etc etc on schools map?!!... poor user experience.... it can not tell you in which schools catchment area you are located. you have to check each school one by one on a map to find out and you can easily miss some schools... and the lists goes on and on..

Thanks for your feedback. I'm very sorry that you're not happy with the site. To answer the points you have raised:
1. When there are more than 1,000 schools visible on the map we display the message "too many schools", this is by design; with 1,000 schools displayed, the markers overlap over each other and the map becomes very cluttered. It makes no sense to present a user with 1,000 possible schools for them to click on. You can still move the map around, but it won't actually show schools until you zoom in further or apply filters, both of which reduce the number of schools displayed to something that is more managable to work with, e.g. you could filter to show only schools that are "good or better" or only show primary (or secondary schools) as opposed to all of them.
2. Amentiies are turned off by default and have to be actively turned on; they are there because restaurants, shops, local crime etc. are useful for people who are relocating to a new area and want to understand what it has to offer. You can easily turn them off again, if you wish, via the amenities filters.
3. Under the catchment menu there is an option called "Hide oversubscribed schools where home location pin is not in likely catchment area"; this will hide schools that you are not in the likely catchment area of; although this is not an exact science, as catchments can and do change from one year to the next.
If you want to discuss any of this further then please don't hesitate to raise a helpdesk ticket or email our support address and we can try to improve your experience by explaining how best to use the site and/or answering any questions you may have.

This research takes an enormous amount of time, effort and specialist knowledge along with the skills and time required to create data visualisations and functionality that brings the information to life and makes it easy to understand; this all comes at a cost to do. Our prices reflect the effort that goes into the site and the value of the content; we also offer a significant amount of data for free.
We are pretty unique, in that we are a small husband and wife family business; this allows us to offer a very bespoke service to all our users; for example, we offer a 7 day-a- week helpdesk where I personally reply to all helpdesk tickets, even on Christmas day! I’m chatting to a number of users right now (Sunday evening), helping them with their questions.
We are continually innovating; adding new and exciting features all the time (as an example feeder and destination schools, pupil class sizes and ethnicities are all fairly recent additions). In fact, we have considerably more data and features than any other UK schools site and, despite our recent price increase, we are still the cheapest actively maintained UK school guide. Sure, you can find many free sites out there (and some cheaper ones with stale data) but in my experience, it only takes me a few minutes to find inaccurate information.

Really valuable service
I've found this to be a really valuable service, it has helped us get a much clearer idea about schools and catchment areas which obviously helps when you've a property budget. It's enabled us to prioritise what's important and we're no longer in panic mode but able to be more realistic about our options. Can't recommend it enough.

Worth every penny
Worth every penny. The service that locrating.com provided us during our move to Dorset was invaluable. All the information we needed about schools across the whole of the county in one place. We have two primary school children and so our house hunting was made so much easier having locrating.com to refer to, regarding good schools that were nearby any houses that would come up for sale. I would recommend to anyone moving areas and schools to subscribe to the service for a few months.

If you want to move, and have kids, you need this site
Honestly, if you're thinking AT ALL about moving, and need to know about schools in the area, Locrating should be your first port of call.
Incredibly helpful filters, search information - helped us pin down where we want to live, the schools to apply to.
And, though I can't guarantee this for everyone else, we got a 100% success rate in applications for our kids!

We've been looking to relocate for some time and this service was a lifesaver! Not knowing the area we were moving to, we leaned heavily on Locratings detailed school results and the local demographic data to try and find the best possible place for our family. Great website to see all information needed on one site
I like the property finder with map view and catchments colour coding tool very handy to search for properties near a particular school
I would like to see properties from all property portals instead of jus one.
But main thing is the information you get on each school and the area.

This is an excellent service for anyone considering relocating to a new area looking to find out about the local schools, services and available properties to rent or buy. We relocated from overseas and locrating enabled us to find out about what the area we were moving to offered without the need or expense of travelling there. I am very sorry that we have been unable to show properties on Locrating for the last three days, which I assume has prompted your feedback. We're trying our very best to get the issue resolved with Zoopla, however ultimately it is something which is outside of our control, as the resolution is something that needs to be done on their side.
We are a schools information website, we added properties obtained via Zoopla's API, as we thought it would be a useful addon for some users. However, as it is provided by a third party, with only limited support, we are unable to make any guarantees with regards to the availability of the feature; as such, it's something that has always been provided free of charge and outside of site membership.
The majority of our members have never viewed a single property, but the reverse is true for locations such as Hong Kong; where many users are looking to relocate to the UK. We are aware therefore that the lack of this feature is disproportionately affecting users, such as yourself, who are abroad and we can only apologise for that.
Please note that not all UK properties for sale or rent are actually shown on Zoopla anyway and so we would always recommend that you use other property portals as well; such as Rightmove, OnTheMarket etc. Which is what most UK property hunters do anyway.
We are hoping that the properties feature can be restored, however we have not been provided with any timeframe for a resolution and we may have to reluctantly remove the feature from our site altogether.
However, the positive news is that we still offer all the same amazing, unrivalled schools data and features that we always have; a lot of which is simply not available anywhere else.

Excellent service. Premium service is reasonably priced and provides a huge amount of data in a user friendly way that makes it very easy to compare schools and catchments. We found it a game changer - completely essential when house hunting in an unfamiliar area. We will use it again when looking at schools again.
