Pretentious with 2nd rate food. Very small portions too.

My wife went to this establishment set in the heart of Bishopsgate. Using a Virgin Experience voucher. We were looking forward to the acclaimed '5 course gourmet meal'. We had booked for midday and were one of the first people in. Very impressed by the atmosphere and decor...definitely a cut above your normal restaurant.... but then a 'gourmet meal' deserved the setting. The cocktails arrived...very nice. The first course and 2nd and 3rd course were small in portion size...and somewhat pretentious in the offering. The main course was the steak (medium rare requested) We were told it came with nothing but the sauce...so ordered a single portion of chips. (£8) The waiter suggested it wouldn't be enough and to order the 'sharing portion'....cost £12. Steak came as did the chips. After a couple of bites, my wife said ..this is very chewy...I was struggling to cut into mine with the knife provided...and found it equally tough....not exactly the 'cut though like butter/melt in your mouth' steak we had been anticipated! We had a 7 oz steak...and 30% was inedible and fatty or tough. In addition, the chips were over-salted! When the waiter came and asked how was our meal ....I said 'I can go to Aldi and buy a superior steak to this for £6'....and having done so many times I was telling the truth. The waiter asked if we would like fresh steaks....which we decided against. Likewise the fries. The dessert was at best adequate...the wife had brandy snaps which were SO hard...difficult to break into and chew. This was a premier steakhouse - supposedly......and the cost of the meal was between 45-50 pounds. I have eaten better steaks for less than £10 at Greek taverna's down Green Lanes in Harringay! They did deduct the cost of the chips off the bill...but with the additional cover charge (!!!) and service charge I still ended up paying £8.89 for the abysmal experience! . And what is this with up-market restaurants ....serving portions that wouldn't fill a cat ! After that 5 course meal....we had to get a top up 3 hours later! A non-pretentious burger and fries from a popular outlet!

Evening Ruined by Manageress Attitude

Really enjoyable meal until the desserts arrived. My wife ordered the Brandy Snaps which were so tough they were totally inedible. Seriously you would break your teeth trying to eat them.

When paying the bill, we felt it was appropriate to point this out to the Manageress. We were not looking for a refund or replacement but merely highlighted why the dessert was left. I notice that other people have commented exactly the same on this site.

The response we received is why we were so disappointed. She agreed they were really tough, but that is how their supplier makes them (clearly therefore not cooked in house) and apparently the waiter should have told us of this when we ordered.........UNBELIEVABLE!!!! This response is quite unacceptable from any restaurant, and especially one whose prices are so exorbitant and uses the reference to Marco Pierre White. Surely he would be ashamed of this awful customer experience.

Finally, as we left we noticed the table next to us (and others) had left their Brandy Snaps as well..............this restaurant has a problem and we will not be visiting again. The manageress (who I will not name here), certainly needs training in providing good customer service.

The meals and service were excellent but be aware some side orders are chargeable

The meals are excellent and the service from Shiv (waiter) and Jose (Manager) was both excellent and attentive although we had arrived when the restaurant first opened at midday and it was still only about half full when we left. We also had to re-schedule online which was very straightforward as we did so more than 48 hours ahead.
However, be aware if using an experience day voucher there is also a £1.50 cover charge per person, many sides are treated as extras (although which ones are clearly shown on the menu) and, although shown as optional on the bill, the service charge is calculated on the whole bill.

End of exams celebration

Booked using a Buyagift voucher as an end of exams celebration for my son. Had a six course menu with cocktails as lunch. Everything from start to finish was excellent - we were slightly late but it was not a problem. Service was efficient but unobtrusive. Fantastic cocktails/ambience on arrival and all food was flavoursome and superbly presented. 1st three courses were starters and were excellent. We both had House cut steaks as mains which were beautifully cooked to our orders with an optional order of fries. Desserts of chocolate mousse and cheese plate were amazing. We rounded the meal off with included coffees and brandy snaps (a nice touch!).
Special shout outs to Ivan and Shivrajsinh who looked after us and all the team that made our meal such a memorable experience.🙂🙂🙂

A delightful birthday lunch

I visited for lunch with my mother today which was a birthday treat for her. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and quickly shown to our seats. We had the three course set menu which offered great choice. Our waiter, Shiv, was attentive without being intrusive and looked after us very well, advising us on choices and checking that we had everything that we needed.
The food was amazing, well presented and full of flavour. Both steaks were perfectly cooked to our individual specifications and were tender and well trimmed so that there was little fat. There was a good choice of sides and extras to complement our main courses and these were perfectly prepared. We finished our meal with desserts and coffee and my mother’s dessert came with a birthday greeting piped onto her plate which was a lovely touch.
In all we had a great experience with superb food and excellent service. We will definitely return.

COMMON SENSE

COMMON SENSE
Today 24th June the hottest day of the year. We are being advised not to travel.
As an anniversary gift from my husband after 48 years of married life. He purchased an experience from Virgin. A four course dining experience with fizz for two at Marco Pierre White’s London Steak House Company. After listening to advise regarding the heat and travelling (by rail)
We have tried to reschedule our booking. We have been advised that there is a charge of £15 per person to reschedule.
It appears that staff are bereft of common sense and/or empathy.
We are not you going today so have no option but to rebook. It an experience that has started well.

Not worth the money.

There were four in our party. We had 2 x Virgin Vouchers, part for this restaurant and part for Shard View.
I have nothing positive to say about the restaurant and I am using that term loosely. Tables packed together, people squeezing past as one tried to eat the poor quality tasteless food. The menu is a set price of £69.99....lol, for that amount there is a very limited choice. I had beetroot, goats cheese and walnut salad as a starter, it was basically a plate of beetroot. My fishcake main was bland and tasteless, my chocolate mousse was heavy but passable, just. Sides are not included and are £8.50 each or £12.00 for 2 portains of fries so £24.00 for oven fries with £2.50 per £12.00 portion for a sprinkling of parmasan cheese and truffle oil. Water is £6.50 per small bottle.
We did have a cocktail included but it was small and not very nice. They hid the alcohol very well.
There is a cover charge of £1.50 per person just to sit down and a service charge to add at the end, which includes the voucher price, cover charge as well as any extras.
I dread to think the final bill in this overpriced squashed 'restaurant' if one decided to upgrade to a small steak. Everyone was using a voucher, obviously the only way this place can survive. Sell meals through experience days and they have a captive clientele.
My advice if you have one of these vouchers is do not use the restaurant part. By the time water, cover charge, service charge and a couple of sides are added on it would be the added on cost would be similar to going for a decent pizza/pasta dish which would taste so much better and give you space to enjoy your food v being squashed, barely able to move.
Marco Pierre White London Steakhouse you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Great food but voucher hell

This is based on my own and my daughter's experience. The food is great, but you get tied up in voucher hell about what can be applied to what and when you can book etc. My daughter recently had an issue with a monetary voucher which was used to pay for drinks on top of a booking she made with meal voucher. They initially refused to accept it, but then eventually did. When they got the bill, the £50 wasn't taken off. They were gaslit into accepting it, only to get a confirmation a mistake had been made a few days later and offered the £50 back. This could have been done way more easily just by accepting it and taking it off. Why would you need to tell them in advance you're using a monetary voucher? You don't call up WH Smith to say you're paying with a book token?

We ate there as a family a couple of years ago and the service is great, after quite a long wait on the door (the main number appears to go to the front door so they can be on the phone for ages before seating you). The food is also great.

Things to know. Everything is extra and you will find it very hard to keep to your meal voucher deal - ie water, bread, cover charge, and many dishes are an upgrade, same with the drinks.

The cheekiest part, if memory serves correctly, is you get charged a service charge on the full amount of what the meal would have been had you not used a voucher (i have found this at other places too). So, if you give someone a voucher, they may think they've got a meal, but they will have quite a hefty service charge on there.

Nice restaurant, but prepare for vouchers that don't quite seem to offer what you think.

Not impressed.

Rather a lot of fat on the beouf burginon and not particularly flavoursome. The chicken was OK. However, there is a pleasant ambience and the service is good.

Corporates LIE about the price to get a sale

Corporates who LIE about the price to get a sale, and then sit there like Pontious Pilate denying everything, when the punter has the temerity to protest. In this instance the price quoted of £69 turns out to be £79 due to unavoidable extras imposed by the restaurant - London Steakhouse.
£1.50 a head "Cover Charge" for?? sitting down and wearing the chairs out?
AND 9.5% "Service charge" for doing nothing. I'll collect the dishes myself from the kitchen.
Oh, and is it legal to charge 9.5% service ON THE Cover charge??
It's disappointing because the meal and service was great!
