Excellent!
Excellent show, production, music the whole cast. Had a fantastic time 😁
The show was fantastic, as were all the cast . However my seat in the middle of the stalls (H 10, 11,)had a very poor line of sight as a man with a large head blocked my view of the LHS of the stage. I am 5ft8ins tall standing up, so it wasn't because I was too small to see over or around him. The orchestra and young cast were splendid, but I would have liked to have seen the whole stage. I enjoyed a matinee performance of the West End’s rousing revival of Oliver! at the Gielgud Theater. While the music remains essentially unchanged from the original production, with crowd favorites like Oom Pa Pa, As Long As He Needs Me, Where is Love?, Reviewing the Situation, and so many more, the choreography and staging have been updated and it all works together well for an energetic and entertaining show. And it is worth mentioning that Simon Lipkin is just brilliant in the role of Fagin as he pushes the boundaries of the character. His performance is consistently wonderful and brings depth of character to a role that is too often played as a one dimensional cartoonish anti-hero. He commanded the stage and transfixed the audience every time he was on the stage. Billy Jenkins brings remarkable energy and passion to his Artful Dodger, and Ava Brennan shines as Nancy, with beautiful voice and presence. All of the major roles are well done and the children in the cast bring an emotional exuberance and energy to the show that is delightful. The young boy who played the title role (Isaac Nelson - one of four currently sharing the role) carried himself admirably in a challenging part for one so young. He did, as the undertaker so aptly observes in the show, bring a certain “melancholy” to his countenance that was perfect for this part. Oliver! is not the most important nor the most serious show on West End, but it is energetic, often quite funny, moving in many ways, filled with old school rousing musical numbers, and provides two hours and forty minutes of great entertainment. I highly recommend a visit.
This was an outstanding performance of a classic London musical. Nancy and Fagan were incredible!
TEN - truly fabulous, great acting, singing and dancing with a great set. Nancy and Fagin stole the show but it was all just great!
Fantastic! The show was amazing, the best version we have seen. The actors did so well, & their accents sounded exactly like the original film. The theatre was small, but cosy & found that there was more leg room than we are used to which was a bonus! Would highly recommend. Only criticism is that the women’s toilets could have had more than 3 in to prevent long queues.
The most fantastic show we have seen in years AMAZING.
The show was phenomenal, all of the actors were fantastic. The stage movement was captivating. Cozy theatre, would recommend for the stalls seats to not book much further back than row L/M since I noticed when walking to bar the view of the stage was obstructed by the balcony above. But Row K towards stage was perfection! Highly recommend this show!
Brilliant performances from all the cast. Fagan was outstanding- the children were so talented. Great show.
One of the best theatre productions I have ever seen. Performers just really brilliant, Oliver and the other children amazing as well as the adults. Highly recommend it, great music too and fantastic songs, costumes. Don't miss it!
