Wouldn’t buy here again

Brought a car here back in September, during the test drive asked about the clutch as it didn’t feel right and it needed changing. Was assured it would be looked at before collection by Robbie ( the older gentleman) and it would be in working order. Picked up the car and paid for an extended warranty ( 6 months). Within a few weeks the car had broken down and needed repairs and I was having issues with the clutch. Claimed it wasn’t covered under warranty even tho I have had the car for just over a month and had mentioned it previously before purchasing. Instead quoted over £800 for a new clutch from themselves. After taking to them they refused to cover the cost of the clutch or refund for the car (over 6 grand). Wouldn’t buy a car here again

Big disappointment

Worse buy ever! totally ripped off from day one, car has broke down several times within four weeks & cost me a small Fortune in repairs as extended warranty i purchased doesn’t include the repairs. I did request a refund within 4 weeks but was rejected… 8 grand down the drain so far

WORST CAR DEALERS

WORST CAR DEALERS! I purchased a car apparently it had a MOT and service before I collected the car after picking up the car I have to return to them days later as there was play in the drivers side wheel and a horrible clunking noise also liquid coming from behind the wheel. After they had the car for a day on collection the gentleman in the garage said all was good. How on earth could this of passed the MOT. A few weeks later same noise from the wheel took to a REAL garage and they said a the seal was spilt and Longmans had just greased it up so the clucking would stop! And it should never have passed its MOT. I couldn't take the car back to longmans as I'd lost trust. Few months later oil light came on and there was a horrible noise from the engine keep in mind I regularly check the car and oil level was fine and apparently the car had a service with an oil change before i collected the car from longmans. I have only done 1744 miles since i brought the car. So i went back to longmans Robbie said it would cost around £1200 to fix! It was 6 days over the warranty and Robbie said , Well that's cars for ya! what do you want me to do about it! Absolute joke, when you paid 5k for a car you expect to get more than 1744 miles before having to pay loads to get the engine fixed! I URGE anyone that's thinking of buying from this dealers to read the other reviews as I wish I had its not just me that's been sold a car that's not fit for purpose from longmans. Others have also found this put the hard way! And there is no customer service support what so ever! MOTs are fake! And i doubt the car was even serviced before sold. They buy cars put a plaster on it and send then out the door and just hope that they go pass the warranty before it all goes wrong. But don't just take my word for it read the other reviews they all say the same thing.
Longmans the dealers that big up all there cars pre purchased then don't want nothing to do with it when you go back to them with an issue. Best quote I've ever heard from a car salesman ITS JUST THE WAY CARS ARE! Although it was a great little car you said when you was selling it! Please avoid this dealers at all costs or your find out the hard way why so many have. LONGMANS THE WORST CAR DEALERS IN BASILDON 👏👏👏👏👏

Deceitful

Got a 2020 ford tourneo connect from this company for £18000. They arranged for someone to drive it to us for about £300. My husband loved the car and drove it here and there, up and down the motorway on long journeys but during that time started to notice defects with the car - such as balck spray used to cover up scratches on the plastic in the back of the car, other scratches on the outside that were not made clear before purchase and also the right side passenger door had been completely resprayed most.probably due to an accident - again nothing disclosed about this. There was also a chafing noise coming from under the bonnet. After 700 miles the engine management light came on the dashboard due to DPF failure. My husband contacted the dealership who were not bothered by it and told him it had happened because he didn't drive the car enough. I called and spoke to someone who was rather blasé about it and said we would have to get the car to him. I said a garage where I live would look at it and let them.know what the problem is and carry out the work provided they receive written consent. The man refused saying the warranty isn't nationwide. I told him I would have to get the finance company involved and start the movement to force them to take the car back and put the phone down. He called back within seconds saying the other garage could look at it but our 3 month warranty is only covered for £300. Ridiculous! We contacted the finance company who got heavily involved and arranged for an independent mechanic to assess the car and deemed the fault to have been present or starting to appear before the sale of the car, holding Longmans liable. After a few months, we were given the money to replace the DPF, but it was one hell of a fight! Several months down the line, we have spent around £4000 on the car and it is still not running right. When the independent mechanic looked at the car, he suggested the car looks as though it has been bought at auction as there was the remainder of an auction sticker on the roof. It appears as though they are buying cars as cheap as possible, sprucing them up with a bit of spray paint where needed and selling them for top money, and refusing to take responsibility for the lack of mechanical reliability.
We bought this car to use as a taxi but it is incapable of doing the work needed. A risk you take when buying a second hand car, but I've bought older cars with more miles on the clock that are still going now!
This dealership is a joke and just a bunch of robbers.
No doubt they will try to say this is unfair review or make up a story about how they tried their best to help us as they have done with other negative reviews, but bear in mind I have all the email evidence to the finance company and the Ombudsman.

Everyone please stay away from this company. They will rob you blind.

Simply the Best

We have used Longmans Motors in Basildon for several years now, and have just returned to service our Audi Q2, which is now out of warranty. Peter at Longmans always provides an excellent no nonsense service, no pressure, no pyramid selling you things you don’t need doing. He always gives an honest opinion and service. Mechanics are friendly and know what they are doing to provide a great experience. Our service and MOT went without a hitch and was completed in a few hours. Great service from a long and established motor dealer. Highly recommended.

Be careful when you buy from them.

I am writing this review with great anger because I find it unacceptable that in 2024 people still behave as if we were in a fairy tale world, where everything ends happily. My nephew, a 19-year-old boy, purchased a Fiat Abarth from this dealership for £10,995, an acquisition he was very excited about. The car was delivered to Worthing, but not for free: he had to pay £300 for delivery and £150 for the warranty.

Two days after delivery, the dealership called to ask if the car was working properly. My nephew, who had only used it for 20 minutes due to a fever, said yes. However, as soon as he had the chance to drive it more, he noticed a loud noise in the gearbox when reversing, a problem that only appears in that situation.

We immediately contacted the dealership to report the issue, but they told us he would need to bring the car back to them. Unfortunately, due to the expenses already incurred, my nephew couldn’t afford to do that. The dealership refused to pick up the car, insisting that it was his responsibility to return it.

We then decided to have the car inspected by an authorized workshop in our area, obtaining an invoice that documents the problems found (see photo). I wonder: why sell a car that costs £10,995 if you knew it had a problem? The repair will cost nearly £2,500 plus VAT. If the car had been returned to you, you probably would have tried to change the price, but it’s important to remember that my nephew has the right, according to the contract, to return it within 30 days.

I find this entire situation extremely unfair and concerning, especially considering that my nephew is only 19 years old. Nowadays, it seems that people only think about money without considering the sacrifices others make to purchase something important. The dealership's behavior has been simply disgusting.

I intend to take legal action and share this experience on all social media platforms so that no one else has to go through a similar ordeal. I find it particularly unacceptable that during a phone call, my nephew was told that if he wanted his money back, they would deduct the miles he had driven. This behavior is a self-inflicted wound on your part.

I am writing all of this to emphasize that a car should be thoroughly inspected before being sold. Your behavior has been disgraceful, especially considering we are talking about a 19-year-old boy.

Good afternoon Mr Santangelo, we are sorry your nephew is having some issues with his car, as explained to your nephew the warranty is with us at our garage any issues it would have to come back to us, this was signed for by him to say he understood,

when we spoke to your nephew about this he said he would be happy with an inspection and if there was any faults to correct them with main dealer parts which we agreed.

As you have refused to bring the car back to us we are unable to check/inspect for any faults we would be unable to help you further.

We have been contacted by four different people on your behalf giving us four different stories but without seeing the car we are unable to help.

As we have said feel free to drop the car into us and we would happily inspect the car for any faults and happily correct these issues for you.

Any other questions you or any one else on your behalf need don't hesitate to give me a call, we would be happy to help.

Kind regards Longmans motors

Longmans motor company, Basildon.

Never trust this company to buy a used car from, they hid a fault in the engine just to sell me the car, went back to them the day after I bought the car, all I got from them was 'sorry there's nothing we can do!'. Well that's the last time I ever go there, and if anyone asks me, I will tell them to stay clear of these car dealers.
Them telling me that I new it was spares or repair, the advert did not state this, and it wasn't till they took payment, then got me to sign this bit of paper work that I see it was spares or repair, to now find out its the head gasket that was gone in the car, I thought this was going to be a trusted garage, I paid top price for a fully working ford focus of this age, it's was not sold at a spares or repair price, recommended selling price is £930, I paid £995. I could of bought one private for cheaper, with no problems.

Thank you for your review, we do believe this is an unfair review,
we sold this vehicle as spares or repair with no warranty due to the age (19+ years old) and high mileage (100k +) which was made clear to you before you purchased it, you also signed a declaration stating the fact you was aware you was buying this vehicle as spares or repair, we do apologise you have come across a fault, we understand you are frustrated and upset but this was reflected in the cheap price and the age and mileage, we wish you the best of luck in the future, kind regards Longmans Motors

My new car

I purchased a car only a month ago and the head gasket had blown. I had 3 months warranty with them and that was not even worth fixing a light bulb. I am not happy that they quoted me £1800 to get this repaired and the warranty did not even cover it. I am not a very happy customer and they did not even try to talk me to sort this out. I did not want to make a scene in front of everyone so just walked out. I would never deal with them again and if I could I would give a review of -10

Car undrivable after four weeks

Car undrivable after four weeks. After two weeks the battery failed, fair enough used car changed that £120. Then smoke from under the bonnet and the aircon compressor has seized making the car undrivable. The warranty is an in house warranty but thought they might help me out as I cannot drive the car and they are 2 hours drive away. No help at all, said it had to be done there and they are fully booked for two weeks even if I could get it there! So it's going to cost me £500 to fix. A decent company would offer some kind of compensation towards this bill in my opinion even if it was minimal. Avoid

* updated. Have now received a part payment towards the cost to repair the car, have changed from 1 star to 3 star as a result

People make sure you get an inspection report before buying a car from this dealer they are very dishonest.
Robbie you sold me a faulty and now hiding from our emails.
And please do not pressure your customers in writing fake reviews you tried with me. You all need to change your business name to Scammers Motor in Basildon. I leave you all to Rogue Traders.
