bad selection for streaming, charged me after i had canceled.
Only got this for the freetrial, was not even worth the effort of signing up, all the o.line movies are terrible, I canceled my membership before the.end of the free trial but had to do so again today after discovering they had billed my bank account. Not happy at all
Streaming was tempting.
I wanted to move from my local rental shop to an online service and the obvious choice was Lovefilm as anywhere I turned I could hear about them. To my surprise, many titles I wanted to watch were unavailable as well as some World Cinema and Indie titles I like to watch also were on long wait. In the streaming section there was nothing that interests me but I decided to watch only one film to get a feeling of streaming service. The good thing about this is that if you find something that interests you and you are willing to spend about couple of hours of your time then the streaming is the way to go because you do not have to wait for films to arrive. However you must have good Internet connection and watch the films during the times when their service is not that busy. Otherwise you will see buffering thingy all the time. Anyway, I believe that steaming is a long way to go and I will stick with Blu-Ray as on my Samsung TV the picture quality cannot be beaten even though I have to wait a couple of days to get it. If I am spending my two hours then I want to spend them with quality. So I tried Blockbuster and have ended up with CinemaParadiso.co.uk. Check my reviews on both of these companies.
Warning! They won't let you cancel
Joined years ago via Tesco.com but horrible experience since handed over to Love.film. If things don't go to plan eg failed delivery they assume you are in the wrong and will try and recoup any loss from you. I have tried to cancel account but the system is to phone up a number which are call centres in India and Asia. You are met by people who are obviously paid a bonus to stop you cancelling. They try and make you ring off by making you spell everything or pretend the line is faulty. I have tried several times over three months with excuses such as 'you can only cancel on the 5th day before your direct debit' then of course when you ring up on that day they say it is too late to stop the next payment. I have taken the payment holiday option and will I try and pursuade my CC company to cancel payments. Use a debit card not a credit card so you can cancel payments easier.
Lovefilm but they don't want to rent them to you!
Lovefilm being owned by Amazon have a secret policy that is ‘get people to buy’ before they can rent. Being a film rental company it is surprising how many new films you are currently unable to rent. Not that you can’t rent them from Blockbuster or your local library. Bizarrely they are unavailable at Love we are not going to let you rent them film. You pay your money and … Now, I’ve been a customer for many years but recently (Dec 2012) it’s gone beyond a joke. I assume they are losing customers left and right and they should. Join another rental company.
Slow and Buffers every 10 seconds (i have 11mb speed and netflix works fine)
i paid 4.99 for 3 months Service(Special offer), i tried to watch a film Apparently HD and the quality was Terrible and buffered every 10 seconds i was shocked how bad this was. i also have Netflix and sky on demand and they both work fine i have not yet seen a buffer wheel in Netflix and the quality is brilliant. i phoned Lovefilm to cancel and ask for my money back the next day (BY THE WAY ITS 5P A MINUTE) and they try to keep you on the phone as much as possible and place you on hold for aslong as they can. i would suggest every one stay clear of lovefilm and try netflix(not as much titles as lovefilm but newer films) or blinkbox(apparently 10,000 films pay as you go and 900 free) . BTW the lovefilm guy told me they need a user to have 5.4mb second connection to get good service and netflix only needs 0.5 (I dont know if this is correct) so they told me netflix is better in one sentence
Lovefilm good response from London
Judging from most recent reviews it appears only London seems to get good service. I have had no problems with streaming or disc delivery. Although I have noticed google chrome shows lovefilm.com to be an unsecure website. Also that after having a disc delivered and returned they just made the same film available for instant viewing, this happened at least four times. I have only used the service for three months. I would like to see instant service include dvd and blu ray extra features like making of and deleted scenes then we can do away with discs altogether, provided lovefilm can retain the license to stream the content as I have noticed many films become unavailable after a time.
Hazard a guess many other reviewers might have had streaming problems due to there internet connection and service provider rather than any technical fault with lovefilm.com. I only say because when I came close to my own download limit streaming grinded to a halt, took very long to load or did not even start at all.
I have simultaneously been a member with lovefilms main competitor and have had no problems either in fact its been a better service but lacking in new content.
Appalling customer service and very slow turnaround of disks
I had been a customer for some time on a now defunct 15 credits for 6 months deal. Their website could not manage to show my contract renewal date properly.
Due to their use of 2nd class post and poor organisation, it was taking over a week between DVDs, so I decide to cancel just before my contract was due for renewal. Various confused responses from their offshore customer service centre and inducements to stay, but I stil left. Then they billed me for the next 6 months anyway. Now they're not answering my emails and I have disputed te transaction with my credit card company. Absolutely dreadful and a mire of appalling customer service.
Do not touch. I now use Cinema Paradiso and it's first class post, brilliant selection of DVDs/Blu-Rays and incredible customer service: I had a foreign language film I reported as I couldn't get the subtitles to work from laptop or DVD player and they replaced it before I returned it. Credits also roll over.
poor turn around time
My only complaint with Lovefilm is that they say "unlimited", but it is actually limited by their poor turnaround time. I am waiting at least 4 days inbetween sending back a dvd and getting the next one delivered, but its more like a week.
great idea ruined by terrible customer service
have used in the past with great success and loved it . I left and was sent a promotion to return that I tried to redeem . This is where it all goes wrong for Lovefilm.
Numerous phonecalls and emails later , I still cannot use the promotion to return . The employees trot out the same scripted responses time after time. They do not actually read emails and contradict each others responses .
Terrible , I would not use again , very frustrating !
Poor selection and customer service
Hello,
Lovefilm is just another company that has a very poor customer service.
After buying something of Amazon months ago I got a leaflet saying that I will get £20 to spend on Amazon if I register with Lovefilm so I did. After waiting a month I sent an email to Lovefilm asking about the £20 but never got any reply so I cancelled the account.
Recently I have reactivated it as got a 12 months free Lovefilm Instant subscription. After checking my latest bank statement I noticed that they still charged me £4.99 for the first month so I sent them an email asking for explanation. That's their reply:
"I'm sorry to advise you that we are unable to retrieve the billing
history at the moment due to an error. Unfortunately, we will not be able to assist you with this."
What kind of reply is that !!! Why would I care about their internal errors. They obviously don't care about Customer Experience or their Firstline never had any proper training.
Also, notice that their support number is 0844 whereas Netflix uses free 0800.
Lovefilm - better change your strategy or you'll be left behind !!!
NOTHING BUT OLD MOVIES
been on this site several times when i had a trial membership.its very hard to find anything new to watch, most films are old.you may like this though )) was not for me anyway.there are other sites out there far better.
Don't do it!
I signed up for the 30 day instant streaming free trial and am very disappointed! I watched 2 films, the 2nd one did nothing but buffer and after an hour of patience i gave up. Tried to watch a 3rd and the option to watch now kept appearing but once clicked on it trying to make me rent! I wanted instant streaming for a reason and do not want to rent so after searching and trying to figure out why it would no longer let me want now and having no luck I cancelled immediately. Will not be recommending.
rubbish range and rubbish service (unless you like being ignored)
I'm actually just going to copy my email to them:
My email below was never answered. I left it as it was because I have too much in my life to chase after (again and again). I have since streamed one film for the kids, but once we were into the package and looked at what was available to stream the selection is lousy. The '1000's' quoted are mainly made up of series not films, whatever genre you look at. It wasn't possible to see this before using the service. Today I thought I'd have another attempt and wanted to watch star wars with the kids - thinking that's so old surely it's available to stream. IT doesn't seem to be. Maybes it's me not using it right, but there's no way to search just the streamed films is there? the only option therefore is to put star wars into the search box at top right of main screen. Lots of ones to rent come up and searching through all of these there's none to stream. Going through the genre option under the instant option doesn't allow you to search but can filter by most popular - again me thinking star wars will turn up under here, but what is most popular a series calles space 1999 made in the 70's!!!!
Please, please just cancel now. Let me know when the current payment runs to and I'll try and find something worth watching. If you had bothered to answer my last email I might have gone back to renting DVD's as compared to Instant it was amazing. But I'll not be doing that because I don't like being ignored.
I wish I had read more of the poor reviews of Instant before I agreed to it.
Waste of good money!!
If I could have given no stars I would have!! I will never use this service again! I have watched one film since I signed up! That is for two reasons! One - there is a very poor selection of films on offer! Two - is that it can't be used outside the UK. I opted for the online streaming of films in the package I pay for, so I assumed that i'd be able to watch them anywhere, anytime since I've already paid for it!! I tried to watch a film on holiday and because of my location it wouldn't let me! I can access my facebook account anywhere I want though!! Stupid lovefilm.com won't be getting anymore of my money or any of my friends and families money if I can help it!! I DO NOT recommend!
Don't you want people to use your service, Lovefilm?
Imagine a store where you have to climb a 50 ft ladder in order to enter, just to be told that you have to be authorised before you are allowed entry and you have my experience with trying to sign up for Lovefilm.
Wanting to watch a movie, my girlfriend and I decided to try a streaming service for the first time.
Going to IMDB, we saw an ad for Lovefilm and thought it sounded like a great service, so I signed up for the service in hope of watching a movie within the next few minutes, alas no luck there.
Since they offer you to rent movies by mail, you have to state your address, in addition to the regular details (e-mail, credit card etc) you usually have to give, which is fair enough. But afterwards the site stated that my e-mail needed somewhere between 5 and 30 characters, which it has, and I had to input the information again, which was annoying, but not a deal breaker.
So with drinks and snacks on the table, we were finally ready to watch our movie of choice, and eagerly pressed "Play", just to be met by the message that the account needed to be authorised, before we could start watching. This threatened to mark the end of our movie night, had it not been for a competing service which we were able to sign up to, and have a movie running in, in less than 2 minutes.
I would really have liked to have written a review telling how great their selection is and praising Lovefilm's ease of use, but the obstacle for becoming a customer was quite simply too high in this case for me to experience any of the above and I moved straight to a competing service with a no-hassle signup process.
Other people might have better luck and/or patience than I, but as far as I'm concerned, Lovefilm have failed miserably at one of the simplest tasks of consumer care - making a good first impression.
PS: During the movie I got an email saying my account wasn't authorised because another account using my e-mail address was using it. Either someone else is using my e-mail for their Lovefilm subscription or Lovefilm tried registering me twice, since I had to input the information twice, either way, I don't know and don't care.
letter I wrote to lovefilm says it all:
LOVEFiLM,
CARS Credit Link Recovery Solutions Ltd has been sending me letters asking for £10 for a DVD it says I have not sent back to you.
Your CARS reference: 5*******
I was away on holiday for a while but when I got back from holiday I posted the DVD 'Brighton Rock'. back to you on Monday 10th September 2012.
The DVD I had before that was "Never Let Me Go", which I posted back to you months ago in June or July I believe.
You should have definitely got both DVDs by now.
Please can you confirm you have got both DVDs back and inform CARS UK that you have got it and cancel their services.
...
I am very disappointed that I have been treated this way by you resorting to a credit reference agency, sullying my credit record, and forcing me to spend precious time writing emails like this to you.
You did not even bother to contact me personally yourselves, over a simple error involving me changing my bank account, forgetting to notify you and then going on holiday.
When you have sorted this out I would like a letter from CARS also to say that the debt has been cancelled.
I have been a long-term and loyal Lovefilm customer, but this has really put me off staying with you.
Do not give payment details to Lovefilm whatever they tell you!
I have just had an extremely pushy sales woman at my front door. She lied about the cost intially stating it was free. Then later less than a £5.( It's 5.99) She stated that i would actually have to opt in and if i didn't i wouldn't be charged at the end of 3 months. Lies. She tried to compare it too sky even when i said i get my phone and broadband through Sky. It does not do those things. She only left when i told her that i felt that she was pressurizing me. After she left i watched a piece about this company on watchdog archives. They made misleading claims which they apologized for in September 2011 but they have not changed one bit. I will never use this company or their parent company amazon again. The pressure put on me left me very upset and i am a psychiatric nurse so how would your gran react. Please cancel your subscription and use another company. They do not deserve anyone's custom.
They only get one star because there is no way of giving them none.
Great service, just so easy.
Ok so here's my second review (I'm still a little bored and in need of something to do)
Lovefilm. What can I say. I don't really think about it any more it just happens. There has been the odd issue, where I sent back a dvd and it took ages to arrive back, and where they sent me the wrong disc. But hey mistakes happen from time to time, and the way I look at it, it's how you deal with those mistakes that really define you, and they dealt with it, no hassle, that's what I like, there's enough stress in this world already!
Anyway I have my list of films, I tend to add a few here and there, they come, I watch, I send them back. I also have the games option too but haven't made much use of that yet. To be precise my package consists of unlimited dvd/blu-ray/games, 2 discs at a time, and unlimited online streaming.
I can't remember exactly what I pay now, around £10 a month I think, but considering what I used to be paying at blockbuster that's fine with me.
I'd definitely recommend them, and I'm pretty sure they do a free trial, so give them a go, what have you got to lose. :-)
Great service
I use lovefilm for renting DVDs and computer games on disc, which they are great at. Discs arrive fast and in good condition. Their range of titles is really impressive. There are some they dont have, but not many. Much wider variety than Netflix, although also quite a bit more expensive.
Liers
I'm a student and a lovefilm empolyee approached me on the street in Lincoln. He was really hard to get away from and kept standing in front of me when I tried to walk away. I listened to what he said and when he explained to me that I'd get £60 worth of Amazon vouchers for signing up for 3 months, with 2 of them being free, i thought it was well worth the money! He even said to just cancel it after the 3 months and take the vouchers, which would help by books I needed etc.
I never got the vouchers and when I enquired about it, it turned out I had been well and truly tricked into signing up for lovefilm. I have to write this review as it made me think just how many people they are willing to lie to in order to get them to sign up. Even if its just small things like saying you will be able to watch more for free than you actually can etc. I don't trust a company who are willing to let their employees lie to people and trick consumers into giving them their money.
They obviously don't think that the service is good enough or they wouldn't have had to add false extra incentives to get customers. I luckily got my money back in the end, but the whole experience has put me off ever going near lovefilm again.
You also have to pay for films and things that aren't in your deal which seems to be an awful lot of them for the price you pay every month! Not worth signing up to. The only reason I'm giving one star is because I was able to get my money back...
