Evaluating 55 reviews, reviewers had a great experience with this company. Customers consistently praise the well-organized holidays, noting the seamless planning and execution of trips. Many highlight the excellent accommodations, efficient luggage transfers, and helpful, friendly staff who provide valuable local tips. The company's app is frequently commended for its ease of use, clear maps, and comprehensive information, making self-guided tours enjoyable and stress-free. However, some customers also noted specific issues with trip organization, such as misinformation about accommodation types or transport schedules. A few people experienced problems with the app, reporting glitches where it stopped recording progress or failed to work entirely on certain days. Additionally, some reviewers were dissatisfied with particular cycling routes, finding them to be on busy roads rather than scenic off-road paths, or felt that certain trips were poorly organized with a perceived lack of local knowledge.

Great trip

The accommodations were terrific, the new app works very well, everything went as planned! This is our second Macs adventure and we were not disappointed!

Great trip if you want to solitude and remoteness

The trip it self was good, Macs is amazing at getting all the logistics right. The accommodations were all great.

The trail itself is just ok. Many days we back tracked and saw the same thing twice. I didn’t like that at all. There were very few people on the trails so we didn’t get to meet many other travellers which was a negative for us.

Wonderful Hike On The Beara Peninsula

The trip went really well. The B&B hosts were wonderful. Connections and transport flawless. The weather mostly cooperated.

We loved the remoteness of the Beara Peninsula, which added to the sense of adventure. We saw only 4 other hikers in 4 days on the trail.

Two suggestions on the route. Add the Ballycrovane Ogham Stone (0.2 mi off route) on day 2, and the Ardgroom Stone Circle (0.3 mi off route) on day 3. The Ardgroom Stone Circle was the most impressive of the four circles we visited. The Ogham Stone is the tallest in Ireland. Each side trip took only minutes.

Since the Beara route is a bit remote, with limited dinner options, our B&B hosts served dinner at the 3 middle hike nights and we got to know them a bit better.

Nealy, at Summer Hill on our first night, got us going in the right directions for both an evening dinner and the first morning's hike.

Therese at Coulagh Bay was so helpful, running a laundry load for us, and preparing a wonderful dinner of Irish stew and salmon.

John & Mary at SeaVilla were exceptionally engaging and helpful and the property sparkled. Excellent dinner, plus transport to and from the town of Ardgroom.

Sheila at Mountain View was an exceptional cook (the hake and soup - we'd go back just for that!) and very helpful, driving us a bit further east to an easier access point to the trail. This was the day of lashing rain and wind.

Marian and her son quickly volunteered their dryer and washer when we arrived soaked at Rockcrest House in Kenmare. And Marian let us park the car there for 4 days before.

Other travelers may be interested in doing as we did: renting a car in Dublin and leaving it at the final B&B of the trip. Simpler than trains and buses, plus permits a simple transition to additional car travel once the hike is finished. Just don't choose EuropCar - they refuse the insurance you bought thru Expedia and charge you 4x.

Good way to ensure no further bookings.

Tried to book a walking holiday in NZ. Paid a £262 deposit so they could book the accommodation. The dates I wanted were not available despite what the website indicated, so it was agreed the booking would be cancelled. After nine working days and chasing for deposit payment, I am still waiting. A good way to ensure no further bookings from me.

1st, & last, time we use Macs Adventure

First time we've used Macs. This was for the Routeburn walk in New Zealand. From the get go too many details were vague and sometimes contradictory. The final straw was directing us to the wrong hotel in Te Anau near the trailhead. Took a long time & too much anxiety to sort out (with zero help from Macs). I like their app but . . . never again.

Wonderful trip

Wonderful trip; you meet so many lovely people and walk through quaint but vibrant Spanish towns on the Camino. Life changing. Excellent organisation by Macs Adventure who we have travelled with before. I would highly recommend it.

Great walk on the South West Coast Path

We walked England's South West Coast Path from Padstow to Falmouth. Macs arranged all of the lodging, moved our luggage, and provided an excellent app that had maps and information about each day's itinereary. The path itself is beautiful with a mix of sandy beaches, cliffs, small harbors, and lovely towns like St. Ives. We saw surfers and seals, seabirds, wild horses, and cows. Every day brought something new. There are sections of the path that get quite muddy after rain and there are sections through brambles, but that is something we knew from the reading material Macs provided. We also hit some bad squalls (50 mph wind gusts), so I cut one day short and taxied to our next lodging. Those were minor issues in a truly wonderful trip.

Thames Path Walk from Source of Thames…

Thames Path Walk from Source of Thames to Oxford
The accommodations were conveniently located and the hoteliers were friendly and welcoming. Our walk was exactly according to the map through beautiful countryside with many interesting historical features from Roman ruins to Anglo Saxon, Gothic bridges, and WW ll fortifications.
A relaxing and hassle free adventure.

The walking was great

The walking was great, accommodation was mostly very good, mapping was all good and worked well. Only suggestion would be to check how far you have to walk on top of the 'walk distance' to get to your accommodation. An extra mile or two on the beginning and end really adds to the day if it is a long one. Ask for a transfer then!

'Tour de Mont Blanc in Comfort' trip in…

'Tour de Mont Blanc in Comfort' trip in early September. We are quite experienced walkers and have competed tours in Europe and s America. This was probably the most physically challenging walk but it was an unforgettable experience. The pre-trip support from Macs Adventure was excellent and the guides and App always kept us on line. Accommodation was varied in character but always comfortable and friendly. In summary, the whole trip was perfect (aided by spectacular weather) and we are planning our next trip with Macs Adventure.

Had a great time walking the west highland way, the luggage transfer service ran smoothly and all accommodation provided was fantastic, using the adventure app was also a great way to plan ahead. Would recommend this company

Wonderful west highland way trip

Mac’s did a super job arranging all lodging and transporting our luggage to each daily destination without a hitch. The Mac’s app had all the gps maps for the west highland way and was extremely helpful. The lodgings were all fairly close to the trail and very nice.

Hadrians Wall Walk West to East 8 Days 7 Nights

Mac's Adventures did an excellent job organizing accomodation for our group of six from Canada. We started at Bowness on Solway and walked through to Newcastle on Tyne. Luggage transfer was flawless and the maps App was really good. Be sure to use it as it also includes where the "stamp" points are to complete the Hadrians Wall passport. Having a day off in Chollerford was really good. The accomodation and food provided at Hadrians Barns in Heddon on the Wall was as described in the itinerary but it was a bit basic compared to our other accomodations along the route. All in all - a wonderful historical walk. Would highly recommend.

Good company, a little expensive

Everything was well organized and went according to plan. The hotels were all nice and the refugios are more rustic but comfortable. Our bags always arrived at the hotel on time. The food quality varied - I'm vegetarian and some restaurants didn't have a great option or just removed the meat from whatever they were serving.
I did spend more on transportation than I anticipated, taking public buses and taxis to get between the hikes.
As a budget traveler, the trip was more expensive than I would usually spend, but the price compares favorably to other companies. If you want a little bit of adventure, but also some help planning and moving your bags, it's a good way to go.

Mac’s did everything that they said…

Mac’s did everything that they said that they would do! Good maps, support material, hotel choices and baggage transfers were always right on. It was nice to often get to our next hotel and find our bags already in the room. The online mapping was really fun as you always knew exactly where you were and how far it was to go. Never got even close to being lost. I’m 79, soon to be 80 and Mac’s made the trip easy!

Select a new hotel in Melide

The hotels and breakfast were on the whole very adequate. The one hotel and breakfast which was not was in Melide at the Hotel Xaneiro. This was a poor choice. The room we were given (although very clean) was in a state of disrepair; there was little help at the front desk when we checked in; there was no help at the front desk when we checked out; and the breakfast at the Hotel consisted of nothing more than a piece of toast and coffee. This was in sharp contrast to the hotel in Palas De Rei (the Hotel Case Benilde) where both the room and the breakfast were very excellent.

We loved our Rota Vicentina hike

We loved our Rota Vicentina hike! We chose to wear our favorite walking shoes, the HOKA Clifton, along with lightweight ankle gaiters, and those combined made for a comfortable and very little shoe sand hike! The views are incredible! The towns were interesting. The lodging was just perfect. Each stay was comfortable and either had the basics, or even were quite nice! Those that included breakfast allowed us to start each day fully satisfied and ready to go! We felt each day had a little different kind of hike, so the full hike was very interesting. There were definitely some challenging ups and downs. Either due to the loose rocks or steep slopes. Taking it one step at a time is the key. Same goes for the sand. But we always made it to our destination in reasonable time and still had energy to explore the town. A lovely experience!
