Do not ever rent a car from Maggiore in…

Do not ever rent a car from Maggiore in Lavagna. We rented a panda for three days while our car was in the garage. When we picked up the car the girl at the desk told us that we could return it before noon for no extra charge. We had to find it in the parking lot and it was filthy. We tried to clean the windows but there was no water. I cleaned the filthy windows while my husband went to get help. The girl came over and agreed that there was no water. I also showed her all the dents and took pictures. Then we had to drive over to the garage and she put in water for cleaning the windshields with the wipers. By the time we left it was close to noon. Then, when we returned the car just before noon they didn’t say anything but when we called later they told us that we were being charged for an extra day because it was supposed to be back by 10:30AM. Then, we said that since we have to pay for another day we will come back and get the car but they said no, our contract was closed and we could not use the car.
These persons are not honest and are not polite. Stay far away!

I know must car rental companies has…

I know must car rental companies has bad reviews because must of the time people don't read the small letters. but here its different! stay away from them! they told me there is little damage to the windshield even after proving that it was before with pictures I have taken they still charged me for 800 eur. stay away.

Maggiore Car Hire on Sardinia were…FANTASTIC

Maggiore Car Hire on Sardinia were absolutely FANTASTIC. We had an excellent deal from this company, much better than any other company we found. Italy seems to charge deposits of around 800 to 1000 euros when Hiring a car. Also I most do not accept debit cards. I just want to say, the deposit with us was 100 euros, they accept debit cards, staff were amazing. They even sent me a text the day after we hired the car to wish me a very Happy Birthday.

Cagliari office, scammers

At the office (Cagliari) I was told that us a brand new car but when I arrived at the car park I noticed a different wheel - actually it was the wheel trim missing) and scratches on every body panel, straight away I vent to the other office that is in the car park and I explained the car is not really a brand new becouse of the scratches and different wheel. The lady told me to make photos of the car and showed her when I drop off the car. I made photos and when I came back to drop off the car office was closed and I waited 15 minutes but no one came(8 to 8-15 I've waited for samo one to come). Later on that day I received a email saying that the wheel trim is missing and I'll be charged 140 euros. I have a third party insurance from booking but I'm not going to use it! The car was like that when I pick up! With no wheel trim. I also contacted booking.

A absolutely immoral disgusting company…

A absolutely immoral disgusting company to use. I was ripped off. I was double charged, once when I hired the car then at the end almost the same amount again. 9 days, over £1000. If I knew that was what I was signing for I would not have signed. What a con. This car hire has been more than double of any I have paid on any holiday. The car in fact was not the one I ordered, it was too small for our needs. It was chaos when getting the car and took over 2 hours to arrange this 'wrong car'. The person also wanted to charge us for existing damage on the car but luckily we had photos to prove we did not damage it. Utterly appalling company to use. RIPPED OFF!!!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They basically steal your money! We hired a car from Auto Europe and they took the payment (including full insurance) prior to departure. When we arrived in Sicily, we were told to go to Maggiore. We were met with all smiles and a relatively friendly service and all seemed to go smoothly. However, we were told that they need a credit card for security, but they insisted “no payment will be taken”. Surprise surprise this was not the case, and upon returning to the UK we found out that Maggiore had taken over £800 from the card. When we queried this, Auto Europe said it was for all the extras such as insurance waiver, breakdown cover, windscreen cover (!) and other none essential things. Despite never agreeing to this, both Maggiore and Auto Europe are ignoring communication about this. We will be seeking legal recovery, as this is theft and money taken without consent. Both companies are now ignoring the issue. PLEASE AVOID THEM

Hiring a car from Maggiore proved a big mistake

The advertised car (Toyota Aygo) proved unavailable. We got a Fiat 500 instead.
The advertised price included a huge own risk (€ 1000). An extra insurance covering the own risk proved expensive.
Normally, the lessor walks with you to the car and gives some explanation about buttons and details. If not with Maggiore: we were allowed to find out for ourselves how, for example, the air conditioning worked. It sufficed with: find your car yourself in this parking lot and find out the rest yourself.
When we returned the car they tried to make us pay for damage that was already present on the car.
Last trick: they tried to sell us an unprofitable “empty tank waiver”.
The person who inspected the car when we returned is, war very unpleasant.

Very professional and easy

We hired a car at Olbia airport sardinia. We'd pre booked and collecting the key was quick and easy. The guy who checked the car with us spoke perfect English and was very polite. The car was in perfect condition. Basically a great experience

Avoid at all cost

Avoid at all cost. They might be cheap, but they are not worth it. After returning the car, they pulled over 1500 EUR from our card for 'damages'. Of course there were no damages from our use, and all their evidence that they provided was from old incidents. We had photographed the major ones, like missing a side bumper and so on, but of course Maggiore didn't register them in their files. Never use Maggiore, Avis or Budget.

Update: After trying to plea my case with Maggiore, I found out they had used old damages as evidence to why they pulled excess money from my card. After I found out about it and showed them these were documented from when I picked up the car, they have stopped answering my emails. Avoid them.

I had a very good experience renting…

I had a very good experience renting from Maggiore at Ciampino Airport, Rome. The ladies who work there are extremely helpful, and polite. I paid a very good price to rent a car which performed without fault. I was not charged any extra, only the low price which I agreed at the outset.

I was worried when I saw the bad reviews on here but I wanted to write a positive review in appreciation for the excellent people at Maggiore Ciampino :)

Maggiore let us down big time

We placed a car booking, to pick it up from Trapani Airport. When we arrived at their desk, we were told that they had no cars and had to wait for 30 minutes. After waiting for 30 minutes and no car was given to us, we asked again and were told that we had to wait for at least another one and a half hours more. I called a telephone number of Maggiore and the person who spoke to me was extremely rude. In fact he hung off. Now we will await for the deposit that we paid since we rented another car from someone else.

FRAUD

FRAUD! We were charged $500 for non-existent "damage" (scuff marks) on the rims. We thought we could dispute it with Avis (since there are Avis logos all over their counter and garage) but Avis says they are no longer associated with them and haven't been for over a year.

Avoid!!!

The worst company ever. First of all, they rush you into agreement that you can’t read, because they won’t let you. Then they don’t show you the car so they can claim the damage. Of course, my car had one (don’t know I was the one who made it). Then after returning the car, they tried to charge me, maybe 250 euro or maybe more for the damage without me knowing. “Fortunatelly” I lost my card a day prior and got it blocked. I bought an insurance through broker but they said that they don’t accept it. So now I am waiting for a letter with an invoice. If I didn’t ask, they wouldn’t give me a stamp on the paper where the damage is confirmed. These practises are illegal in my country and I am buffled that this is still possible in the EU. And their way to communicate is incredible. They are unreachable by phone and face to face are the most arrogant people I have ever met.

There was no information as to what…

There was no information as to what time the rental shop was open. After the late arrival, there was no contact with the rental company. We had to sleep at the airport on the floor. After returning the car, we received a message that the car was damaged. I have pre-hire and post-hire recordings. Scammers. They are trying to get money. This is sheer theft. An Italian scam as at every step in Italy. This is a scandal!

This company is simply thieves... they charged me 1400 euros more, they called it damage even though there was no damage and they ignore all my requests. I have not seen such things... Please do not do business with them, do not approach them

Great experience with Maggiore

To be honest, I was very concerned about renting a car from Maggiore after reading the reviews here. Fortunately my real experience with Maggiore was the complete opposite of the bad reviews I see here. I received the car I booked with no issues. It was a Mercedes Vito in excellent condition and I crossed Italy with it in two weeks. Car return was a smooth process. It was also the best deal I could find in terms of price. I will book my car with Maggiore on my next trip to Italy.

The worst experience we have ever had…

The worst experience we have ever had with rent a car. Staff was very unpolite, charged me twice for insurance. Never got my money back. Very difficult to contact. Avoid this company especially Treviso airport branch.

Don’t use Maggiore at Olbia airport

Don’t use Maggiore at Olbia airport. We had an awful experience when returning the car yesterday and feel properly scammed. Amazed that the AVIS group let this sort of stuff happen - where we’ve been charged for over 300 euros of damage that didn’t happen while we had the car. I have to blame myself for not doing a very thorough check of the car when we picked it up, but it was very late, dark with poor lighting, flights had been really delayed, really long day for the kids etc. The person who checked us back in did a look around and said there was new damage. I said it hadn’t been us, so she then did another round of the car and came back with a whole lot more apparently new damage! Anything she pointed out was clearly pre-existing, and there were nicks and scratches all over it.
All incredibly bad customer experience, a curiously vindictive member of staff, and an upsetting and stressful way to end the holiday. The only reason we ended up with Maggiore was because our flight was delayed and we had to change providers (via the aggregator we used, at the last minute). Avoid them at all costs!

Thieves

Rented a car in Sicily. They found 2 scratches when renturning the car that we didin´t cause. Then they charge 550 euro to fix the scratches which any company in Sweden (who is an expensive country) would charge 60 euro to fix. Their support doesn´t respond. Please, avoid them our you WILL get scammed.
