Just avoid this crooked mechanic rubbish

Took my daughters Astra for a service and they didn’t change the oil or filter. Went to see a friend who’s a mechanic and when checking the filter and oil it was seriously black and filter hadn’t been touched. Absolutely money takers. When I’ve spoken to other garages within the area. They all told me never go to Manic Shite Mechanics (Newport)

I have previously written a review about this company and my views have not changed. After months back and fourth with the owner even with proof still said it wasn’t their fault. I gave up trying due to ill health of a family member who needed my sole attention. My car went for its mot yesterday and other work this garage had done to my car had been done wrong and not properly and has caused more damage. This company will also want to contact you to sort out bad reviews just to have them taken down so they aren’t exposed for their poor and unprofessional service. They will also deny it even with photographic evidence. Owner Brett was pleasant to speak to at first and did seem willing to sort their wrong doings out but soon became rude and in denial of any fault. Waste of my time and money, and more importantly I have been driving a car that has not been fit for purpose despite them being paid to fix the problem. I felt they really took advantage of my age being a young girl and not really knowing much about cars only wanting to be driving a safe car. An utter disgrace and a poor excuse of the company! Shame on you! I want no contact from the company whatsoever, just warning others. I feel they also think rebranding will take away the bad from their old name it doesn’t.

I booked it in because I had a clunk on the front suspension. Guy on phone told me strut mount bearing. Car was for the day. When I pick it up told nothing wrong with it and that they fixes a loose air box £72. Drove away CLUNK on suspension. Air box secured with a zip tie. Very dear zip tie. Just had strut mount bearings replaced today through warranty. Never again.!!!!!!

HUGE shout to Manic Mechanics Newport ltd. Brett Sayce and his fantastic staff have once again provided me with 5* service and value for money when “Greg” was in for his MOT and service today. My life is a tad chaotic working full time, studying full time, being a mumma and also a kick-boxer etc. Without hesitation Brett made sure I could drop my car off the night before at my convenience and I got the luxury of driving their electric car for 24 hours while my car was in their good hands. The staff made sure I knew at multiple points what was going on with my car and compleated no work without my say so. As much as right now Greg isn’t my friend for the bomb he’s cost me today, I know the work he’s had done is to the highest of standards

Where to begin

Short version: treated like cattle delayed and don't stick to deadlines they set themselves , very unprofessional and just want your money, avoid

Long version: took my car here due to being desperate over Xmas they told me the cam chain needed replacing, they told me it would take a month, I asked them if they knew anywhere I could get a car or something as I need a vehicle for work and they didn't give me anything to go off... they overshot the month deadline by about 2 weeks and they broke something on the vehicel which they charged to themselves but only then was i offered a courtesy car...afterwards I had a warranty and the car failed on a connection rod to which they instantly got defensive and said it wasn't their fault but that it would take £150 labour to look at it so they knew that even though its part of the drive chain that it wasn't their fault without even taking a look to see if it was and finally I think it's pretty poor going for a company to take my money then not even give some courtesy to find out

Avoid avoid avoid they seem professional but not at all

Bad experience with these, vehicle was in for weeks longer than it should have been, charged £700 for a dpf clean that hasn't sorted the problem, now quoted another £620 to clean intake manifold to in their words "Hopefully sort the problem" i understand diagnosing and fixing faults can be complicated but if you dont know what your doing dont take it on, if i wanted expensive trial and error fixes i would try that my self, if your looking for a garage that will keep your vehicle for days longer than they should then hit you with main dealer rates this is the place for you.

Had van serviced and MOT and was informed about more work so I booked it in but told them I could not get it to them before 10 due to work, asked if I could drop off in evening before, as they had kept it over night after the service, but told they don't like to keep my type of van overnight, so arranged that it would be around 9.30 when, I arrived I was told that they thought I was not coming and they had started work on another job and could not carry out work.
Asked for another date and was booked in for good Friday told them possibly not get down in time for 8am but later phoned left a message for then to return call to confirm the booking and that I could get it down for 8am, had no return call so I called again to confirm I would be bringing van for the work on the date and what time I would be arriving and was told it was booked in and was given an apology for problem with previous booking.
Turned up and as I pulled in a chap in a 4x4 was giving me a hard man stare who then pulled into the garage, as I tried to book car in the girl was having problems finding the booking, the desk manager received a phone call from the workshop taking about the van turning up, he then tapped the computer and told me it was booked in yesterday this was the person who I booked it with and questioned that they were open on good Friday when making the booking.
I was then told they could not carry out work needed today but he said I was welcome to leave it with them? When they do not like to keep vehicles of this type overnight and not knowing when the work would be carried out.
So, I will no longer us this garage as trust has been lost and after reading all the 1 star reviews.

Advised my mother to take her car here for a service as my brother come here for a clutch and flywheel replacement and it was a good service and I have also had a good experience here before.

Along with her service she had a free health check, great! Well not really. I usually do work on my mothers car as I’m a plant mechanic
So they advised her that her NSR shock is leaking and her springs are heavily corroded on the rear, these are marked as urgent and not advisory.

I thought this strange as I only replaced her rear shock absorbers a year prior so Upon my own inspection I found the rear shocks absolutely bone dry! And the springs have a small amount of peel on the paint Hardly urgent.

They did advise on the front shock leaking and a bad antiroll link which was correct
So they wanted £1100 to fix these issues that majority of wasn’t actually there

Yet another garage taking advantage of a lone woman hoping to pull a fast one it seems
Shame really as I’ve had good experience here in the past. Wouldn’t recommend here anymore, especially a lone female!

Terrible terrible experience with this garage. My car broke down and the RAC took it to this garage telling me they were great at sourcing parts and would look after me. My car was there for two weeks and they didn't get round to even looking at it. Every time I rang I was told it would be looked at tomorrow but tomorrow never came! I ended up having to take it to another garage who will look at it straight away and get back to me. If they haven't got the time to take on RAC breakdowns then they shouldn't take the business from them to then treat people in this manner, totally unprofessional. I care for my elderly Mother who lives the opposite end of town to me and I live in a rural area where we have a country bus service so I was lost without it and worried constantly that there may be an emergency and she would be alone, this was explained to them several times but still no action.

There's seem to be a fair few bad reviews on here but I had my mot with them on Monday and couldn't be happier with the service!

Took my car for an mot they refused to do it as they said my timing chain was about to go. (Bear in mind my car had 67,000 miles on the clock) I’ve spoken to a lot of people and had my car diagnosed numerous times since and every single person I’ve spoken to has said timing chains last a life time!! On the day manic mechanics refused my mot they quoted my timing chain would be a “£1,500” fix although I looked online and the dearest timing chain was £200 odd max so they wanted £1,300 for labour! Absolute rip offs took it for an mot else where the day after and had one advisory so they completely lied, nothing but money grabbers avoid at all costs!

Been using these for nearly 5 years for any maintenance or repairs, never had an issue until I took my car for an MOT at the start of April, to find they had passed the car (great) even though one of the tyres was just about illegal, thankfully I checked it as they flagged it as an advisory, should have been a fail, and then I discovered a £20 note had ‘gone missing’ from under a pile of paper in the glovebox. Other than admitting they parked my car in a cctv blind spot, they’ve done not much else to rectify the potential thief they’ve employed.

It's not often I feel the need to do this..but as a mum, I have to!. So my daughter had a flat tyre yesterday.. obvious screw in the tyre..so she managed to get the car to this place.. she's always thought they were fair..I never have..stopped using this garage years ago..
They couldn't find her locking nut (even though they were the last ones to replace a previous tyre), so advised they'd have to drill the nut off to replace the tyre..plus order a new locking nut which arrived this morning..
So they quoted £58 for a budget tyre.. they changed the first one yesterday, said it came off easily..so she decided to have all 4 tyres replaced as some were worn and MOT approaching, and she's a busy busy girl working long hours 6 days a week.
She was called at 10.30 today, advised her car was ready.
Total bill today for 4 budget tyres:. Nearly £560 !!!
Charged 3 hours of labour at £80 per hour!!
Nearly 3 times as much as I earn as a senior nurse per hour..nearly as much as a GP earns per hour..but for what???
Talk about ripping off a single young female.. absolutely disgusted!!
General consensus.. rip off merchant.. beware ladies!!

To add insult to injury..I dropped her there to collect her car.. in her sheer panic over the price she left without her purse.. and I didn't have mine with me..I was in between meetings.. they refused to let her drive her own car away, even though they know her, her address, and made her drive a spare car home to get her purse..
She seems to think the car belonged to someone else, had been worked on with lots of paperwork on the seat..but she was too stressed to pay much attention.. treated like a thieving criminal..
Shocking behaviour and shocking prices...never again will you rip.off my girl who works hard for every penny she earns and facing Christmas...well done manics..be proud of yourselves for so much stress and taking the absolute mick from a young lady!!

Sorry disappointed reading all the good comments,I booked my car in to have bushes fixed on front drivers wheel had a call to tell me I needed front suspension repaired paid well over the odds as I found out later and still had to go to a different garage because you did not fix the original problem. Definitely will not recommend or go back Sorry.

Fantastic garage, very honest staff. They fixed a leaking boot in my car I was previously quoted £730 manic mechanics sorted the issue for £60. Couldn’t recommend them enough.

Great experience using Manic Mechanics. Good first impression on the phone to book a clutch and full service. Customer service was good on arrival and the job was carried out quickly and well priced. Very please all round. Will certainly use again. Good COVID restrictions were in place.

please stay away from this place.is the worst garage ever.the worst experience in 10 years.there is an adventure to find a parking space.they have not respected the basic hygiene rules esoecially now with C19.i have found dirt on my seat, the steering wheel was covered in dirt and grease

Used them on a few occasions. Always great service, can definitely recommend.
