Had a good night spent here 25th July booked through Golf Breaks £125 dinner bed and breakfast and 2 rounds of golf. Evening 3 course meal we all had steak which cost a fiver extra but was very good along with the desert. Breakfast buffet was really good with all the usual items and cereal and a few pastries. Twin room was good enough for us. The reception and bar staff were all helpful and friendly. The bar area is poor and is not that comfortable and feels like you are sitting in a reception of a gym. Overall we all had a good time and would come again of the price was right
Don’t stay here!
We stayed here for one night on the 10 may Upgrading to a 4 poster room for my wife’s birthday. It was very disappointing the room was really shabby with curtains hanging off rails, dirty marks on doors, cracked tiles on vanity units, holes in walls, wallpaper coming off walls! Stained table tops! It was a joke! The tv only had Freeview channels and there’s no usb port in the whole room. The whole thing was very disappointing, I’d have complained but my wife didn’t want me to! I’d post more pictures but that doesn’t seem to be an option on here?
Would Not Book Again
Would not book again. Which is unfortunate wanting to support local business’s. I booked afternoon tea for a friends 60th birthday September 22 and we were thoroughly disappointed. Lots of waiting around. Lack of service. Had to hunt for staff to request our tea. Sparkly just opened and left in wine cooler stand. Unable to find any waiting staff. Were they short of staff? I guess so. Complaint made at time but no satisfactory response. Complaint made later by email and received a standard letter reply stating their feedback is normally good. However, I wish we had checked out the lack of recommendation beforehand. Further complaint made and no reply. Would not recommend. Very unsatisfactory and disappointed for special birthday occasion. Minor moan - scones stale but ok loaded with jam and cream! MoG, before you reply saying you did reply. Yes, you did to first email but not to further query email.

Short on staff so they were closing the golf bar early. Rude staff. Dirty glasses. Run out of coffee in the club house. Flat beer.
Afternoon Tea - Never Again
Surprised they are still in business!
I booked 2 afternoon teas to share between 4 people, made this crystal clear via email. I even confirmed this on the phone. On the day, we were presented with one tray instead of 2. Then were told that it was our fault and that we had only booked a single tea to share between 4 people. We asked how we were supposed to book in the future and they replied to book for 4 people and they would automatically assume to prepare 2 trays. I do not see how I could have made this any clearer to them in advance. The head of staff then told us that she would contact the kitchen to see if they could prepare another tray at such a short notice, as if to guilt us for their mistake! I must emphasise that nobody had apologised for the inconvenience that they had caused to us for their own miscommunication! The hot drinks were also served very late into the meal.
As we went over to pay, they initially attempted to charge us in the region of £100 for 3 afternoon teas! They defended themselves by blaming me for the wording of my email. When I made it clear that I had originally booked 2 teas, weeks in advance, the bill came to £70, still much higher than expected. Another member of staff had picked up on our confusion and frustration with the whole experience and bluntly asked if we would like the bill. Upon examination, it became clear that Manor of Groves had automatically whacked on an extra gratuity charge of £8.41. At this point we were all left speechless. Having paid the bill, we left disgusted with how they could even think to charge us an extra tip for their poor services!
A total of 3 mistakes made by them in one booking and yet none of the staff had cared to apologise once on their behalf. It was always, in some way or the other, the customer's fault!
We were all so looking forward to this day as this venue was where my school prom was originally supposed to be held pre-covid. We were also celebrating my parents' wedding anniversary.
I would highly recommend Mulberry House instead, where the staff are always happy to help with their customers' needs in any way they can.
Our whole day was ruined and we will certainly not be returning to Manor of Groves again.
40th anniversary not to remember!
Just spent one night here to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, the room, pool, and evening meal were adequate, but the breakfast was a fiasco. We went in at just before 9am to find staff preparing tables for lunch time,so tables were limited. When entering the buffet area we found that there was no fruit left,we asked staff if it could be replemished. After a brief visit to the kitchen the reply was, there is no more.Ok we will have orange juice instead,no orange juice.Ok went to make tea for ourselves no cups! Ok went to make toast for it to come out of the toaster either underdone or burnt. The cooked buffet was quite good, but we had just finished eating and relaxing with tea when we were asked to move along with other people to the atriam as they must complete setting the tables for lunch.Compained to the duty manager, she seemed totally uninterested and dismissive which we found to be very unhelpful.Lastly the bar area is much to be desired. Not really a pleasant stay!
Have to think twice about a revisit
On the whole not a bad couple of days but on arrival we were told there will be no housekeeping service we would have to make our own beds and no cleaning will be done. The room was okay apart from the curtain rail broken and the curtain tucked into the top rail. The bathroom was in a bad state and dirt/rust all over the place. The food wasn’t bad but when we turned up for breakfast at 9am they had trouble putting us at a table for four and offered us two two’s. We finally persuaded them to put two tables together. On sending an email of complaint, have received no response.
Not happy at all
Not happy at all. My sister and I took our 20yr old boys here. They are Uni students and we felt they’d be refreshed after this break. When we got there they went straight to the gym and were told only 3 machines were working as new equipment is coming in. This should clearly have been on the website. Meals were dissapointing. Lots of steps to get to Pool n Steam room, Wouldn’t go back.
Very dirty
From looking at the web site I was looking forward to staying here unfortunately it’s wasn’t that great.
Room was freezing even after having the heater on for 2 hours I could still put my hand on the heater as it was only luke warm. Restaurant was also cold another diner also complained.
Decided to eat and ordered a 7oz burger asking for the bacon to be removed. Burger turned up smelling of bacon and was burnt black. Only ate the chips and coleslaw when my plate was collected I asked the server if meat was all cooked on the same griddle to which I was told yes when asked if bacon could have been cooked on the same griddle I was advised yes probably. No offer of alternative food or for this meal to be credited - bad service and cross food contamination.
I then took a deeper look around carpet on the stairs leading to room is worn threadbare with the backing coming through. Some weird bit of sharp plastic sticking out the floor in the shower caught my foot. Corners of the bathroom and room had brown dirt marks.
I know we are in unprecedented times with COVID but do not feel this can be used to excuse the above.
Returned the following week as booked by my employer - still no change - tooth paste on side in bathroom, 2cm of dust on top of wardrobe - pulled covers back and the matter was topper had bodily stains not nice. Have fed back to my employer plenty of other hotels in the area would use them and avoid manor of groves.
I am not one to usually complain
I am not one to usually complain, as all stories have two sides. I for one am absolutely disgusted at the service I have received, firstly I was not told about any of the facilities on sight and the room has no air conditioning nor a fan. When I requested a fan I was told that all of them were out, I’m sorry but how can a hotel not have a fan? £300 for 3 nights and they can’t afford a bloody fan?! It was hotter in my room than the sauna downstairs. I am absolutely disgusted at this and the hotel are very lucky I didn’t stand outside warning everyone off the place. I waited 6 hours before being told there was no fan in here. Rooms are more dated than a cave and the furniture is more squeeky than a mouse wheel. I will never attend this place again, nor will I let anyone enter the place.
The room was so hot that I could not get 1 nights peaceful sleep and is that too much to ask when paying £100 a night? I paid with good money, so why can’t I expect a ‘good’ level of service.
Simply the worst service ever experienced
My brother and sister-in-law were staying in the Manor of Groves for their wedding night last weekend, as were a lot of us family and friends. When we all got back to check in, the hotel had given the newly weds' room away. And when this was challenged, it was met with, and I quote, "I didn't book it, so I can't do anything", along with, when I stated how outrageous it was, "I could have you ejected" (and when I say 'stated', I mean stated, no threats, no expletives).
On top of that, which alone should warrant zero stars, if that were possible, rooms were found to be dirty (our bath wasn't clean and our cousins had to move rooms due to dirt) and they also messed up delivery of champagne to the newly weds' alternative room - which was in itself a way of trying to cheer them up after the debacle with their booked room (the hotel forced us to pay towards the champagne too).
Quite unbelievable. Avoid this hotel.
