DONT CARE FOR ALLERGIES, MADE ILL, OVERCHARGED

Have been going here for the last few years & it has gradually declined but it wasnt until yesterday we decided we are never going again. Was our friends birthday, we were 15 mins late to our party because of traffic, I'm disabled, hadnt even sat down before she's asking us all what we want to order. My friend tells her before the order he has a SERIOUS peanut allergy & she just goes 'oh yeah' and that was it, as if oh we don't care if you die. I then ask her for soya milk or just not full fat milk in my milkshake because of lactose intolerance & she says oh no we can't do that. So I ended up having a bad stomach because of having milk. My partner then asks them for a NON alcoholic drink with his meal instead of the free alcohol one because he's 10 years sober (which would have been cheaper anyway so they would have actually made money..) she said they couldn't do that either! So I ended up explaining it to male waiter later on and he said no it's fine & got him a non alcoholic one, she just didn't care about making allowances for our dietary needs. I then asked if I could have corn on the cob as an extra with my chicken (was quiet happy to pay obviously) but she said they couldn't do that. So this is before we even got our food we were all looking at eachother like for god sake. Then she takes our friends ordes we DOUBLE checked it with her & she's too busy staring at my hair clip (this is when it got weird) she then asks if she can take my hair clip to show someone and ran off with it. Im sat there like ? So anyway she eventually brings it back,it weirded me out. Then our food arrives (too quickly to be fresh) they bring my friend a normal 12o burger when he ordered a 24o. We told the male waiter, he said it's fine they will just make a second burger, my friend is one of the most polite people you will ever meet & he said there's obviously just been a mistake in communication it's ok. But the original waitress decides to come back after its been sorted and starts arguing with him saying he ordered a 12. We said no there are 5 other people sat here who heard him say 24 twice, she argued and said he didn't. His boyfriend said to her it's ok you've just made a mistake it's fine it's being dealt with, she started leaning over towards them saying no I was right you didn't say 24, we all said yes he did. She was having none of it, then she turns around again to his boyfriend & says don't you make a face like that at me, when he did nothing wrong. So anyway we didn't see her again for a while, his second burger turned up and they both looked undercooked, they weren't the burger he ordered aswell because the stuff inside was different which was so dangerous considering he has a severe allergy! He had to get his epi pens out just incase, my husband then says that his burger isn't the right one either, he ordered a 24 buddy Holly and ended up with a 24 bill Hailey, so my husband had ended up with our friends original burger that she told us he never ordered, he ended up with a 12 bill Hailey which was somehow half of what my husband ordered..What was even worse is that she had it down on 3 different bills for our couples and somehow got our orders all mixed up when she did them separately one after another starting a new one every time. So this had basically already ruined our friends birthday at this point. My other friend says what is that & picks up a mozerella stick and underneath the lettuce was brown and covered in what looked like fat or oil from a burger! I then look at our lettuce & it had brown spots all over it. So this meal was really bad and all the mistakes, arguing with the customer,we felt so uncomfortable we just ate a little bit left the rest & got out of there. My friend couldn't get into the toilet because it needed a code so cant even use a radar key which was disgusting. Us leaving, manager brings same waitress to take bill the order & she charged us for someone else's bill! No itemized bill, £67 for us two..when ours should have been £55.24, AVOID!! Also all got ill, husband on the toilet all night

Shocking welcome

Shocking welcome, not even a smile. Refused to have just a cup of tea, had to have a meal. Rude little girl at the desk. Avoid this miserable place.

Don't stop here, rude rude rude

Stopped in there on our way somewhere for my nephews 13th Birthday, we stood at the sign that said please wait to be seated. A lady was behind the bar serving someone else yelled across 'how many' at which we said '5 people.' She then said they had no tables. From what we saw it wasn't even half full. So I turned to the rest of the family and said they have no tables and we're about to leave at which the waitress started yelling 'we have lots of bookings what do expect just turning up' . I was so shocked, I just said OK no need for the attitude and left in shock. Forgive me if I'm wrong but it's a road side cafe, which I presume 99% of their customers would not have booked. When we rang later to complain to the manager about such bad customer service we sadly found out she was the manager. Some serious customer service training is needed. We had thought she might of been having a bad day, but reading reviews since no this seems to be how she is. Very sad.

All Style, No Substance

It looks ok (like a poor man's Pulp Fiction) , but the food was NOT good.
I should have said something at the time (as the owner stated, or rather shouted) but I was very hungry and wanted to get home after a long trip.
I ordered the ribs and a coke... simple enough. The coke came and was very small (330ml). For £2.90 it should have been at least 500ml and it does not state the size anywhere on the menu.
The meal came and was truly awful. About a teaspoon of white cabbage mixed with mayonnaise... NOT coleslaw, 7 or 8 twice fried frozen chips and a half rack of boil in the bag, over-microwaved rib things with no flavour and soft bones, proving they were not fresh and definitely nuked.
This travesty of Americana cost me £17.40
A real shame. I drive along the 303 10-12 times a year and would happily pay more, but not for THAT!
Oh btw, try being friendlier and serving better food rather than writing lots of obviously FAKE reviews. Talking to YOU Blondie

Driving on a 5 hour journey from Devon

Driving on a 5 hour journey from Devon. Stopped at this diner as my 7 year old was busting to go to the toilet. As we approached the entrance I did see a sign that said 'for customers only'. I was more than happy to make purchase, however the VERY RUDE owner refused to allow me to buy something and let my daughter use the restroom. Little did she know i had planned to get a burger for her aswell. Absolutely horrible and inconsiderate. I most definitely do not recommend even spending your money here. They don't deserve it and have clue about human decency!

Terrible place

We had pre booked a table for a large family dinner and they didn’t even have us all seated in the same area, leading to members of our party feeling isolated.
My young daughter was playing with a balloon (that was already there) when “Happy” who I guess was the Manager, or worse the owner, came up and told my partner to stop her because she may spill a drink.
She asked my partner “do you understand?” - she understood the words but didn’t believe someone could be so rude. This annoyed my partner so much she refused to order a meal there.
I ordered Chicken Enchiladas and they had about four pieces of 10mm cubed chicken and was loaded with mushrooms, which were not part of the menu description at all!
The children had a chicken bites and chips meal, the chicken bites being cooking oil saturated.
When we challenged them regarding the description of the Enchiladas , with a hope to get the menu correct for future customers they just tried to defend not giving a discount that we didn’t ask for. Only suggesting “Enchiladas are a Spanish meal and they put all sorts in them”
All in all a terrible place that evidently the staff don’t even like. They seemed like they were working there under duress.
Not to mention their protective toilet policy where there is a key lock but they don’t tell anyone, rude signs on the door state not to bother to ask to use them if you’re not a customer.

Will never go again, I’m sure the staff will be happy, they seem to not like customers.

Great little diner

I've stopped in Mattia half a dozen times now whilst travelling from Bude to Winchester & my kids & I love it. I find the Staff extremely friendly & professional & the cooks/chefs always deliver the goods. Huge portions & very tasty. Pancakes+Bacon+Syrup really good. Steaks with Whiskey Sauce very very good.
Diner feels very clean & comfortable. The decor is brilliant & I never knew how much I enjoy listening to American classics. Had a chin wag with the Boss & I found her to be lovely

Appalling business who refused to help…

Appalling business who refused to help me whilst I was bleeding extensively, requiring medical help. I was travelling on a long journey on Sunday evening when I had a severe bleed following a medical procedure. I lost a significant amount of blood in the car, in front of my children, and as the Mattia Diner was the next open public place, my husband pulled the car over there. I went into the restaurant, covered in blood, clearly in a state of shock and distress and asked to use the toilet and to call an ambulance. The owner of the restaurant refused to even look at me and very firmly said ‘NO, GET OUT!’ I proceeded to try and explain that I was bleeding heavily and needed medical help and she repeated ‘GET OUT!’. I was on my own at this point as my husband was getting me spare clothing from the luggage in our car. He found me outside the restaurant, weak and panicking. I had to pull down my trousers and underwear on the side of the A303 due to the amount of blood that I was continually losing. My husband took me back into the restaurant to ask again and the female owner had disappeared leaving two young waitresses telling us that I wasn’t allowed to use the toilet. We pleaded with them again and one waitress asked for proof that I was bleeding. I held up my blood soaked coat as proof in front of their customers which was very humiliating. My husband tried to find the management but they were hiding out the back. One of the waitresses gave in and opened the locked toilet door for me telling me ‘not to make a mess’. My husband was with me in the toilet and phoned the emergency services. The music in the toilets was so loud that he was struggling to talk on the phone to the 999 operator. Not one person in the restaurant offered their help to us. We are not local to the area therefore had no knowledge of where the local hospital was. The emergency services was able to tell him where to drive to as they were unable to dispatch an ambulance to me quickly enough. Whilst I appreciate that I was not a paying customer but I was in severe, desperate need of medical help and they showed no humanity or empathy towards me. Absolutely shameful and disgusting people who deserve to be shut down.

Absolutely appalling.

Absolutely appalling.
After an emergency where an 11 year old was throwing up, we kindly asked the owner if we could briefly use their bathroom so she could wash off her hands, and were refused due to "company policy". Even after explaining the situation, and then offering to buy something to fulfil the "customers only" policy, we were still refused. Absolutely horrendous that full grown adults cannot show a small amount of compassion towards visibly unwell and distressed children, avoid at all costs.

Always Fantastic Service With A Smile

I stopped in for a coffee and pancakes on my way to Yeovil.
Service was quick and friendly. I had my coffee and pancakes roughly 5 minutes after ordering. There were around 10 other tables with people and the atmosphere was happy.
A waitress came to check I was happy with my order when I was about halfway through my pancakes.
I'm not sure why this fantastic cafe has so many poor reviews. I have been here several times maybe once or twice a year whilst passing and I have always received great service with a smile and great food served within a realistic timeframe.
The atmosphere has always been warm and vibrant and the decor is great. I will continue to visit to enjoy this great 50's style diner.

Don't stop here!!!

Don't stop here!!!! Appalling customer service from owner /manager. Rude and makes you feel unwelcome, owner appears to have absolute contempt for customers. Cannot believe what I've just witnessed. A real shame because it looks like a wonderfully decorated place but absolutely not worth it.

Please don’t bother wasting your time…

Please don’t bother wasting your time and money( it’s very overpriced)
Staff have no personality or customer service skills. Dirty uniforms. Food is lukewarm and tasteless best thing was the poached egg out of the whole breakfast.
The sauce bottles were almost empty and what was in there was filthy and gunked up they could never have been cleaned so I didn’t dare risk using any. We had to ask for cutlery and then we’re given one napkin to share.
Why is this place still in business because it catches mugs like us passing by.
If we had seen the reviews we wouldn’t have gone within a mile of it but were hungry. As it happens we’re still hungry when we left as food was nasty.
Train your staff this could be a goldmine. Get your staff to wash their uniforms and not have their backsides out in skirts too short.
A smile a please and thank you and hot food would improve your business 100% pay your staff properly and you won’t need to fleece customers with a 10% service charge.

Rude, aggressive, strange

Just stopped at this place. The staff were rude and aggressive as soon as we set foot inside. It was like something from breaking bad. Very strange experience. Avoid avoid avoid. They don't even serve coffee without a meal. It's a diner/ service station... and forget about using their toilets as they have lots of aggressive signs saying only for customers and not to ask.

Terrible service and experience

We came here for some food on the way home on Easter Monday. We had to wait for a good ten minutes before the waitress even saw that there were people waiting. The lady in front of us said ‘hello?’ and in response she gave a sarcastic comment back. Once we had finally been seated we were handed the breakfast menu (at 16:00) so we asked for the lunch/evening menu. When our drinks arrived I received half a glass of water so we went to the bar and asked for a full one. The manager replied ‘well you haven’t even finished that one yet missy’ and reluctantly filled up the glass. The food was average and the service was appalling. The two waitresses were very slow and it seemed that they had no idea on what they were doing. During our meal there were families who had clearly been on long journeys asking to use their toilets to which they responded ‘no you can’t use them they’re blocked from people from the petrol station’. On top of this awful dinning experience there was a 10% service charge added to the bill. Would not recommend this diner to anyone.

The diner looks good

The diner looks good, and has atmosphere, and the food ingredients are good, sadly it ends there. We went there on the morning of13/3/22. The breakfast looked good when it arrived, but was pretty much cold. And when my wife used the toilet there was no tissue. It could be a very nice venue, but standards have slipped. This is the second time we have stopped there on the way to see our son in Taunton, the food was cold last time but we gave it a second chance, there will not be a third.
