Awful to deal with

Awful to deal with. My partner and I had a long trip planned when, days before, my father was diagnosed with bowel cancer. He had no prior symptoms of cancer (he never had a symptom at all) however he had gallstones, prompting a colonoscopy. In that, the cancer was discovered.

Mawdy insisted on multiple doctors reports to state that the cancer had only been discovered after the trip was booked (each costing 30e from the doctor) only to decline the claim anyway because my father had gallstone symptoms unrelated to cancer.

Avoid Mawdy/Mapfre travel insurance - useless

I have a Mawdy Ireland annual travel insurance policy (taken out via Bonkers.ie Ireland). My wife and I had an expensive holiday in Mexico planned in February this year, to celebrate a milestone birthday, but sadly my sister was diagnosed with brain tumours, and I had to cancel. She passed away while I would have been travelling. Mawdy Ireland/Mapfre were useless and paid me nothing, as they wanted me to get notes from my sister's doctor enquiring about potential symptoms even from BEFORE she was diagnosed. Her doctor would not give me that under GDPR regs. Note: I had a smaller Allianz travel insurance policy, via a separate Health Insurance policy, who were a dream to work with and refunded me the maximum possible under their policy (about 50% of my overall costs). Allianz were compassionate and a pleasure to work with. (I will review them separately).
