I was charged $182 without my consent…

I was charged $182 without my consent for an automatic renewal I never approved. The service was poor and unsatisfactory, and there was no clear notification before the charge.
McAfee’s billing practices are misleading and aggressive, relying on hidden auto-renewals and opaque terms to take money from customers.
Customer support is frustrating and inaccessible, leaving users to deal with unauthorized charges on their own. This is not acceptable, and I do not recommend McAfee to anyone who values transparency or fair billing.

Beware of Deceptive Billing Practices

I recently discovered I’ve been paying for two separate McAfee LiveSafe subscriptions for a couple years—one for my laptop and one for my desktop. When checking my McAfee profile for the laptop it would link to the desktop profile on the for billing history.
When I contacted customer support, the representative was initially very helpful. She located both accounts and immediately offered a 100% refund on the most recent renewal since it hadn't started yet. (The auto-renew hits about a month before expiration.) The customer service rep offered consolidate both devices into one account. For my troubles, she also offered me a 50% discount for my subscription renewal, being very deliberate not to clearly state would be maintaining TWO accounts. This made no logical sense given that one subscription would cover all devices. This was a deceptive attempt to keep me paying for something I didn't need.

Unable to get a refund after an…

Unable to get a refund after an automatic renewal. The only way to even request a refund is by calling support, which is unacceptable. Cancelling the subscription was already difficult, and getting money back is an unnecessary hassle. I would never recommend this service to anyone. Stay away and do not give them your card details.

every day now am getting an e mail from mcafee telling me they are going to delete all my pictures data etc unless i take out a subsription with them . this really rips ma knitting cause i never have or will have an account with them. i dont have pics with them but just really pisses me off

Not worth it

I purchased McAfee in 2024 and when 2025 came around, I decided I didnt need to renew due to the fact I only vist 4-5 websites on my laptop and they are school related. 1 month after it expired, my motherboard was fried.. GPU done.. on at 1000$ azus gaming laptop. I 100% believe macafee put viruses on my computer because I didnt renew. Id also like to add, after my subscription was up, I only used that laptop 1 or 2 times before it completely took a dump on me.

DONT BUY!!

Mcafee is a bad service.

Mcafee is aggressive, intimidating and manipulative. Unwanted frequent pop ups, that can't be disabled, attempts disguised as safety messages intended to switch to users to their own inferior services. I bought Mcafee subscription on Amazon, fully paid, but it's impossible to install it without giving Mcafee your credit card details.

Bad experience over preventing unwanted renewal

This isn't a review about the product but about the company and its' customer service. I have had a nightmare over the subscription. I don't want to renew, and McAffee is aware of this but have tried multiple times take the money from my card. Fortunately, my bank did not accept the charge and I have now blocked them completely on my bank card.

Bloatware, Security and privacy disaster

This company is a security and privacy disaster. Their software came pre-installed on my dad's PC, actively disabling Windows' built-in security features. Since the McAfee free trial had expired, the PC had been without protection for almost a year.

Removing the McAfee application was harder than removing a virus, with constant scary pop-ups trying to convince us that we should not uninstall it. The "Delete Account" button is useless too, they claimed to have deleted all of my data, but I still got email ads from them 1 month after deleting my account, so I guess they didn't delete anything.

It strikes me that if McAfee are unable to control the number of spoof/phishing/junk purporting to be from them that turns up on my computer there is little chance of filtering any viruses on your computer...

MCAFEE - ROBBING THE ELDERLY REGULARLY!!

Absolutely shocking customer service from Mcafee! Auto renewal fee was taken and no protection for laptop was provided! My grandfather is 92 years old and was have been fighting to get his money back for 6months!! To be robbed of over £100 at any age is disgusting but this goes beyond. The customer service representative was abrupt and not willing to listen. We were on the phone for over 30 minutes with her denying any knowledge of his account, turns out she was spelling it wrong but told us "I have spelt it correctly" without even double checking. They have also refused to refund the remaining 5 months that will not he use, as we have cancelled the subscription to avoid further distress to an elderly gentleman who will now struggle to keep warm over winter due to this abhorrent treatment from Mcafee. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!

Do not use their auto renewal system. We got so many auto renewals that BoA contacted us to see if the charges were legit. This after we’d tried for 3 days to shut it down. We ultimately asked BoA to close the card that McAfee had and issue a new one. McAfee customer service staff were useless so we turned the charges into BoA as fraud and interestingly the charges were all reversed the next day.

Scam

Purchased a code from a retailer so I do not need to input bank details, lo and behold when activated code it is mandatory you sign up for auto-renewal by providing bank account details with no justifiable reasoning to why this is needed. I believe it is to get money from people who forget to cancel or have issues cancelling themselves before payment is taken.

Horrible company. Waste of money and time.
