BEWARE THE SMALL PRINT

BEWARE THE SMALL PRINT - IT WILL COST YOU A *LOT* OF MONEY IF YOU DONT!
MDL are an uncaring and mean company when it comes to finances. Due to serious ilIness and rising mooring fees I sold my boat, an 'old-fashioned' 21ft motor boat, in August 2024. I duly informed MDL of my sale and the fact the boat had left the Marina. I expected something like the usual 28 days notice etc. But, shock horror , MDL informed me I had to continue paying very expensive mooring fees till the end of the contract period. This will be Xmas eve this year. I also would have to pay even if MDL re-let my Berth, (so they will have two sets of mooring fees for the same berth).
I was then directed to the very small T&C's in the contract. The T&C's cover EIGHT pages of small print. The section covering Cancellation is incomprehensible.
My attempts to get this, what I consider immoral and unethical condition, cancelled fell on deaf ears at a senior management level. I lost a lot of the little profit I made in selling the boat.
The boat service provided by MDL at Poole was generally very good on a personal level.
So beware the small print boat owners and strongly consider NOT using MDL unless you know your either not going to sell, or, you sell at the end of the contract - which is very hard to time right.

Avoid the online shop

Avoid the online shop. Bought some boots in the online shop. They took my money and the order is missing. Can’t get a response from their contact form, even rang head office and promissed a call back. Nothing at all. Bunch of thieves.

NIce Site, appallingly run unless it involves fleecing you.

Hamble Point is one of the most expensive marinas in the UK.
Yet the security is appalling, and customer service dependent on a couple of youngsters that may or may not be in the Office.
MDL believe that since they have a chokehold on sites they can charge and cut costs as it suits them, but honestly if you can find an alternative take it.

Absolutely appalling customer service

Absolutely appalling customer service. Chatham were asked to put my boat back in the water in December 2023. After repeated promises it's now May 2024 and still not launched. I phoned MDL Head Office today and asked to speak with the head of operations. Not available but someone will phone you back - of course they haven't. Don't touch this company unless you enjoy disappointment.

Most USELESS marina staff & management

Been a berth holder at Bray Marina since 2014 but recently had the last straw and moving my boat. I refuse to plow more money into such a greedy selfish company. As most on here I agree it’s all about the money!! Absolutely no f’s given regarding customer satisfaction. Had my boat broken into, spare engine stolen along with other bits, electricity purposely cut off no reason given, thus disconnecting dehumidifier. Been double charged a few times even though it’s on DD, whilst boat on hard standing over winter still got charged mooring berth fee on top, boat sinking one winter and it took a fellow berth holder to bring it to the offices attention - whatever happened to 24 hour surveillance and patrols? - too late resulting in yet more cost for me to resolve…..this is only the tip of iceberg with the numerous issues I always have with Bray! The manager is the most arrogant person I ever met and never agrees with berth holders. No accountability at all so why am I paying top grade for this “secure” and prestigious marina?!’ If there was an option for zero stars that’s what I would’ve picked.

Many thanks to the staff at Mercury…

Many thanks to the staff at Mercury Yacht Harbour MDL Marina. As storm Henk barrelled thru the Hamble the team looked after my boat and pumped it out as she was in danger. Delighted with the customer service and ‘can do’ attitude. Thank you from George and Jenny Wren VII

Chatham lock failure.

A group of classic boats have been locked in the Chatham Marina because of the lock failure on Friday. We have been given so many different stories about when the spare part will arrive. Marina staff just not getting the issue sorted. Clearly a poor maintenance problem with the lock breaking so many times.

MDL's Motto Rook the customer and the…

MDL's Motto Rook the customer and the customer is always wrong, they damaged my boat and rather than sort it out like any decent company would of done they refused and told me it was my fault and even sent me an extra storage bill!!!!
they have a complete lack of customer service and the woman who runs Hamble Point Marina does her best to make sure the client is wrong!!!!

Well folk say it’s all about the money…

Well folk say it’s all about the money and whilst I have been a bertholder for many years the marina at Woolverstone I have to agree.it’s not the cheapest place to keep your pride and joy but they have some great sites. Woolverstone have not acknowledged a reduction on my electric meter when I went away for just a week in the summer I sent in meter pictures but nope no reconciliation of their charges.

Its all about the money

Interesting that this site is TRUST pilot. I wouldn't trust MDL as far as I can throw them.
Poor / non existant customer service. It's all about the money to them. They don't care about you, what your desires are with your boat or how they can help you....just money money money.
If you have options then find another marina company. It's such a shame as their locations are excellent, but that is the point, you are just taken for granted.

Extremely poor customer service over many years

We have been a customer of MDL on and off since 2008. We have received questionable customer service over the years (except at Torquay Marina) to the point where we took our business elsewhere until our return to the UK in 2020. In 2021 we approached MDL for a berth in their south west marinas, only to be told that there were no spaces. So we requested to be placed on the waiting list. 12 months later, after ringing them several times to check if any berths had become available we were told that we were NOT on the waiting list, and asked “if we had paid £500 to be put on the priority waiting list”. The berthing manager had decided NOT to put us onto the waiting list, even after 2 conversations requesting it.

We have owned our boat since 2008 and have been contract berth holders at several MDL marinas for approximately 8 years of our 14 year boat ownership, spending on average £6000 per year (2-3 years paying in excess of £7000 per year).

We have many other complains about our experience with this company over the years, but this is the final straw.

It would appear that our repeat business is not what this company is looking for. Perhaps the cost of a reasonable secondhand car every year is not enough.
