The idea of riding has always appealed to me but at 53 years old I had become quite unsure of my abilities and lacked confidence and actually felt a bit silly.
I contacted Mercury and spoke with the lovely Eunice. She explained all the different options available and was happy to talk on the phone several times to answer questions; she gave me the confidence to book an hours Try ride with Dave. This was a total beginners guide: telling you about the bike and what and where everything is (without making you feel like an idiot). At the end of this I actually knew how things work and was able to ride the bike a little. I would highly recommend this first hour if you aren't sure if biking is for you.
His patience and willingness to explain things at a basic level, along with his own enthusiasm and encouragement convinced me I could do it, and so I booked in for my CBT!
We spent the morning learning about the bikes details and the basics of riding, no question was stupid and he was happy to take everything at my pace. After some classroom work it was time to go on the road for real! Constructive feedback, with a good sense of humour through an earpiece made me feel like I still had full support. I can't believe that I was actually out riding a bike.
Looking forward to putting all I have learnt into practice, and going for a bike test next year.

I felt unprepared and frustrated after an unsuccessful attempt at my Module 2 test with another training school. At the previous school, I felt like just another number. The instructors barely paid attention to how I was riding and seemed more focused on other students, particularly one female rider who received far more guidance than I did. It was disappointing and left me feeling like I hadn’t been given a fair chance to improve.

Everything changed when I booked my Module 2 training with Mercury Motorcycle Training. From the moment I arrived, the difference was immediately apparent. I arrived with some of my gear, but they still offered me the option to use a full kit of their equipment. I decided to give it a try, and I’m so glad I did. The gear was of outstanding quality—warm, comfortable, and well-maintained. Feeling warm and well-protected helped me stay focused during the training and probably contributed to my success.

My day with Mercury began with an introduction to the bike, allowing me to get comfortable and confident with how it was handled. Unlike my previous experience, David, my instructor, took the time to assess my skills and ensure I felt ready before moving forward. We even practiced a few key Module 1 exercises to refine my control, which helped set me up for success as we transitioned to the road.

Once we were out on the road, David provided clear, personalised guidance and helped me review the areas where I struggled during my previous test. We covered various routes, including some tricky sections, and David offered insightful, actionable feedback along the way. In contrast to my experience with the other school, where feedback was vague and unhelpful, David’s approach made it easy to improve and build confidence.

We took regular breaks to discuss my progress and focus on areas for improvement. During one of these breaks, David reviewed the Module 2 safety questions and answers with me in a quiet location, ensuring I fully understood them. The entire session felt comprehensive yet relaxed, and David’s calm and professional demeanour made it a genuinely enjoyable experience.

By the time we reached the test centre, I felt prepared and confident, something I had not experienced during my first attempt. The difference in quality between Mercury Motorcycle Training and my previous school was staggering. I learned more in one day with David than I did in half a day at the other school, where attention and structure were sorely lacking.

From their incredible instructors like David, who tailor the training to your needs, to their well-maintained bikes and top-notch equipment, they set you up for success from the start. Whether it’s the little things like offering high-quality gear or the big things like personalised feedback and structured sessions, they truly prioritise their students’ success.

Passing my Module 2 after training with Mercury was an incredible feeling, and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
