Excellent support and good experience


I contacted Merkur Andelskasse based on a recommendation from a friend, and it turned out to be a great decision. As a first-time homebuyer, it was very important to me to have support throughout the entire process—something I wasn’t receiving at my previous bank. My advisor, Albin Kamberi, was extremely helpful, answered all my questions, and made the loan process for my new apartment smooth and reassuring from start to finish.

mortgage loan

Inquired about a mortgage loan to buy an apartment. Told me to better try Nordea. Didn't even get to give any further information about my economy 😅
This is the second time I reach out. The first time I asked about opening a business account. I get an impression the service guys couldn't care less.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you didn’t get the service you expected.

Unfortunately, Merkur does not offer many services in English, and that might be a reason to recommend other banks. For security reasons, we only receive new customers digitally and the onboarding forms as well as all other documents from Merkur are all in Danish only.

Their online bank feels very dated and…

Their online bank feels very dated and their staff quite unhelpful. The only thing they have is that they are supposedly "ethical" somehow.

Like many others have noted, their staff don't understand English very well. They do try, but get it wrong and always reply in Danish, which I understand but it feels rude.
Besides that, they are also very complicated to interact with. After my divorce 3 years ago my ex wife asked them to remove me from our joint account, which they still haven't done (she's Danish so this isn't the language barrier). And when I asked to move a large amount of money back to my bank in another European country, they wanted me to fill out a paper and pay 225 dkk for a simple transfer (like this was the 90s).
When I complained they offered to raise my limit for transfers from 50k dkk to 500k dkk, but after they said they had done that it still doesn't work.

If you still have problems with transferring the money or with the joint account, please give us a call or write to us in our online banking system, we will be happy to help you solve the problems.

I am sorry if we have misunderstood something or if the communication has not been great. Our staff are not trained in English and all our documents are in Danish only, so unfortunately, we cannot provide the same level of service in English, though we try our best.

Terrible customer service

I have tried for over 2 weeks now to open an account with these clowns. Terrible customer service. No one gets back to me when they say they will. I have to constantly follow up and each time they ask for more documents. They all seem young with very little training and banking experience. If I don’t hear anything back this week, I will go elsewhere.

I chose Merkur .. but

I chose Merkur because it is a "sustainable bank", proposing investments only on conflict free, non polluting products. Non the less, they rates on the bank services are very high compare to others, and the costumer service is terrible. I can´t find anyone speaking English, which makes it impossible to have any type of consultation in a safe and clear way. For a bank in Denmark, where population is 5.8 mil, with 10% of the resident being international... this is just not acceptable.

Unfortunately, we are a relatively small bank, and we do not have the resources to provide all services in English. As we also write on our website, we can offer an online banking service in English, but all our documents are in Danish. And our staff are not educated in English. I am sorry, that we were not able to give you the services, that you expected.

Merkur refused to help me in English!

I have contacted Merkur to open a bank account, but their answer is that they simply refuse in help me in English. Not speaking Danish is apparently an obstacle to be a customer at Merkur. I guess you don’t need new customers or money then?!
Good to know that Merkur is not the bank for all the foreigners here in DK.

A bank you can trust

I recently joined Merkur and I am very happy with every aspect of the experience so far. I dealt with Steffan initially and then Thomas, both of whom were extremely helpful and supportive in the process of opening personal and business accounts. Alongside this, Merkur's investment policy and approach to lending resonates with my ethics and makes me feel comfortable about my money being with them. All in all I highly recommend Merkur, this feels like a bank you can trust on many levels.
