Poor Forum.
MSE in general is a great resource but beware the forums.
You may think you are asking a perfectly reasonable question but the site is littered with 'holier than thou' know it all's who will question your audacity to ask such a question.
There are some good people on there who will try and help, just be ready for the naysayers.
Incorrect upfront cost for samsung s23 ultra
Incorrect upfront cost for samsung s23 ultra .. Eg money saving expert had £69 as upfront cost for 512GB storage 100GB data 24 month contract with 3 network but actually it turned out to be £169.... This is the case for all upfront costs on their site for this product
Absolutely terrible
Absolutely terrible ,
Do your own research its much more reliable
Do your own research instead of taking this site's words
Awful advice that in fact cost us money.
Some of the recommendations are also for unethical companies with dubious practices in other countries, problematic workers' rights records, poor environmental track records, etc.
Avoid!
What a shame…
This business is run by arrogant egocentric Martin Lewis.
He thinks he knows it all but he doesn't , anybody with common sense could easily challenge his opinions.
ITV doesn't help as they allow him to influence poor people, telling them how to save 20 pounds a year.
What a shame.....
Can't we get decent people anymore ?!?
Be careful
I would be very careful about using this website as some of the products services endorsed are absolutely awful!
To put this comment into perspective, I am in the process of suing one service provider that they recommend, and last year successfully sued another.
I tried to highlight this issue with MSE but simply received an automated response telling me they have over10 million users, which suggests complaints are simply deleted.
I would strongly recommend that you seek additional information elsewhere (to reinforce any purchasing decision), rather than relying solely upon information from this site.
Guy is a muppet
Guy is a muppet, appealing only to those thicker than he is! Uses smugness as a tool over the vulnerable.
Flawed Mortgage Protection Advice
I am a mortgage and protection broker and am to say the least shocked by the poor information you give on this. You talk about mortgage payment protection insurance and life assurance as the only things to consider.
Very very wrong. Firstly as any financial adviser worth their salt will tell you one needs to consider long term income protection not the discredited MPPI plans. Long term income protection replaces lost income and is available with various payout options potentially up to retirement age.
Secondly you don't even mention critical illness cover. If someone suffers a major illness they will not only take a hit to their earnings which may or not continue depending on the sick pay they have in place but there will be almost inevitably additional costs. You only need to contact Macmillan Cancer support who provide far more accurate information on this.
In summary your infornation as not only basic but fundamentally flawed. What is so scary that so many people rely on this.
Surprised at poor reviews
I actually came to Trustpilot to do another review and was surprised to see the negative reviews for MSE. I have always used to compare insurnace bank accounts etc. and it has been brilliant. There is great advice and a useful weekly email. Reading the negative reviews I think many mis-understand the sight. i can only give advice for most and not individual circumstances.
Martin lewis said on one of his shows…
Martin lewis said on one of his shows to go on a website to compare prices so we did.i ordered a airfryer off Brighton direct as they came up the cheapest but hasn't arrived.now looking at the reviews it's actually a untrusted site so nice one Martin you haven't saved us a penny you have infact let someone con us out of a£120
Not what it seems
Not what it seems. If you signed up to this site/forums when it was under Martin Lewis's leadership don't think for one minute it's still the same. It's now run by sharks. It's no longer about helping the consumer - instead it's about abusing and silencing the consumer and pushing the narrative of the corporations that supposedly now own the site. Martin Lewis really needs to sever his association with this trashy site - I used to have respect of the man and his advice.
Had a similar experience last year with this site (that time trying to work out my finances). Tried again recently - this time wanted to pick people's brains re energy saving. Sadly, every bit as bad as last time.
So clearly not just one bad experience that's out of character. And they do not give a damn when they do harm to site users - not even a pretence at trying to do the right thing.
EDIT: Also worth noting that this company thinks they are above the law. They refuse to delete your data according to GDPR legislation, so don't give them your data thinking you can later instruct them to delete it.
I ordered a 30 sim
I ordered a 30 sim, an MSE Blagged offer.
I ordered the sim on 4 Nov, the sim has not arrived as stated, thus began a complete nuisance with the sim provider.
After spending hours of my time attempting to resolve the providers blundering, I decided to not waste any more of my time and cancelled the 30 day sim offer.
My advice would be to research any recommendations first.
As of Today, 17 Nov the sim has not arrived
Wrong AER shown
I have reported wrong information, but no change on site. This site is NOT to be trusted.
Stay away and don't trust them.
Stay away and don't trust them.
They are not honest company, after compliting my aplication for Tesco Credit Card, they report sad that I'm not eligeble.
However looks like this day they were pushing M&S and Virgin Credit Cards. After a few hours I've recieved an email, that I'm eligible only for the above CC's.
I was able to get CC aproval directly from Tesco Bank without no issues.
Pathetic.
Careful what you clcik on
I was looking to change my mobile provider. A Martin Lewis blagged deal offered double the data at a substantial reduction in cost so I clicked on the Get Deal link. The link re-directed me to a website that my pc blocked because it has been identified as and I quote the website "is a spam and phishing domain" also the pc will be “infected with viruses and other infections”
Very poor customer service
They were not able to describe the reasons for the credit score discrepancy between Experian and their CreditClub, which is supposed to be exactly the same score becasue the scores are directly extracted from Experian credit agency.
The customer service just copies/pastes some pre-arranged answers for all customers, many of them are nonsense. I personally figured it out after an extensive search and monitoring and did teach them about a bug in their system and told them how to answer similar questions, next time.
Mistake
In the MSE email
in the energy saving section an example of using a 1000watt microwave to cook a baked potato Vs an oven .It is claimed the microwave would use 1kw if used for a hour. This is not correct , a 1000w microwave will use about 1.8kw , the 1000w rating is the cooking power not the input power .I emailed MSE but the same mistake was repeated on the tv program (18th Oct ). Very poor research .
GET REAL LIKE THE BILLS
Respective firstly, most importantly please get a grip of reality not of yr own circumstances but the majority ,what doesn't work with yr brush strokes of best deals doesn't favour the majority so do a little better and not only seek to promote yrself on daytime TV really become a champion of the real People in
I really like the comparison feature…
I really like the comparison feature for buying insurance. The articles are also really useful. Seems like the most honest of comparison sites in my view
I was looking for advice on fixed rate…
I was looking for advice on fixed rate bonds so thought I could trust MSE due to Martin Lewis' affiliation. I looked into those shown as offering the highest rate. Unfortunately, they all had the most dreadful reviews. I understand MSE's defence will be they only report on the rates, but surely there should be some kind of warning about the practices of these investment companies. My advice, do your homework, don't let greed cloud your judgement.
