The bully manager and her supervisor

The bully tactics of the supervisor and the manager, in front of people with a false allegation that was not true. And being treated like a thug, because apparently I was singing, I Can't even sing, and if I was singing I would of been tapped on the shoulder during the performance by an usher instead they approached me at the interval after coming back from the bar with my drink in front of everyone with a black security man.. they ruined my night and experience. And the manager is a liar with the bullshit excuses coming out of her mouth.. I will never be back!!!

I am thrilled by this musical

I am thrilled by this musical! Having watched Moulin Rouge several times in London, it captivates me in a fresh way with each viewing. In my opinion, it surpasses the movie by far.

It could not be more awful…

Seen the film? Love the film? Yes? Me too. Unfortunately, if that’s the case, you’re probably going to hate the stage show.

Not only are a lot of the original songs not included but a lot of the story in the stage show makes zero sense because they cut the songs but, for reasons only the director knows, kept the dialogue that only makes sense when the songs are present.

The songs themselves are delivered with a shouty, student theatre level volume, and lack ANY of the depth and feeling they had in the film.

The director has spent more time having people prance around on stage than he has with character development. I’ve honestly never seen a show where I have been less invested in the characters and their plight.

The set design is mediocre at best. Just a bunch of 2d backdrops lifted in and out at the appropriate times.

Either the director didn’t understand what people love about the film, didn’t have the skills to adapt it for a stage show, or he just didn’t care. There’s no humour, the cast just belt the songs out instead of handling carefully and matching the tone of each scene, the sets are boring, the last song between the two main characters was THE WRONG SONG, and when the ending happens it’s just like “oh, ok that’s happened then…”.

They shoe-horned in a bunch of modern pop songs and cut out songs and major moments from the film. For what? What did that add??

The moment in the stage show when Christian says to Satine, “fly with me”, makes absolutely no sense because they cut the song that line is referring to!

What a disappointment. Just crap.

This show is an insult to the audience…

This show is an insult to the audience and the original show. They managed to transform a masterpiece into a pantomime/burlesque parody, with modern tunes that have nothing to do with the story and the original soundtrack, poor script and poor dancers, that relied on vulgarity to entertain the audience. Iconic songs like Show Must Go On and Like a Virgin were completely omitted (together with the relevant part of the story), others were just "referenced" by singing 2 lines and then leaving space to modern hits like Single Lady or Toxic. It could have been a slightly more enjoyable experience had it been sold as a modern retelling of a classic story, but I feel deeply betrayed by a show that had nothing to do with what it was supposed to be, whose only good point is the very good singers. Disappointing to say the least!

Crestfallen.

Actors were emotionless. Choreography was horrific. As someone who adores the movie Moulin Rouge, this was truly disappointing. Myself and my family have always loved going to see musicals and not once have we ever been so crestfallen and robbed of our money that we’ve had to leave half way through. This was an abomination of a musical. Shame on you: directors, casting agency, and production company.

Shocked

Worst show we have ever seen. Beautifully classic musical destroyed by countless modern hits (Lady Gaga/Britney/gnarls Barkley) and countless more. Main 2 characters were simply not strong enough and majority of dance choreography was lax. Was really cringeworthy and just absolutely gutted it was such a poor experience.
Evident this was a recurring opinion when at the interval mixing with other show goers.
Please save your money and don’t fall victim to this awful musical. Expected much better from a London west end performance. Should have been the best of the best but simply was not.
The only thing that was faultless was the set design, absolutely incredible.

Mainly good, esp if they like a good sing song.

After never seen the film, i did not know what to expect. The other half was fully anticipating the experience.
Its very raunchy, and the sets are outstanding. Lots of singing by the crowd, with some interaction which is good. Personally i liked it, however, the leading lady "appeared" to be lip syncing? There is a few bad words which i found off putting, and these words could have been edited to something else quite easily. The music and the sound was very good, how they transitioned between the songs was excellent.
After one scene, which was a particular vigorous song and dance number, the crowd clapped and "whopped" etc for ages, the cast did not quite know what to do, thou i think they enjoyed the rest and chance till fill lungs with oxygen! After a few minutes 1 of the characters gently ( using hand gestures ) asked the crowd to be quiet, which only ignited the crowd once more!
The theater itself was clean and tidy, the seats are never as comfy as you think for a 3 hour show. The prices they charge for even a bottle of water are extreme.
When it comes time for the show to start, members of staff hold up signs saying no photo or filming (bravo) however, the signs are black, in a dark setting, so some dont see it, especially if they are in the middle seats. Can a "audible" announcement not be made to?
Only thing that tempered the night was some sections of the crowd whooped and hollered at nearly every sentence, this was off putting. Even with other members of the publishing "shushing", they carried on. Not sure what theater or production can do about this?

The musical was breathtaking

The musical was breathtaking! The only drawback is that the main singer playing as Christian doesn’t sing very well and destroyed come what may song 😅. I will go back to see the musical but please change the main singers.
