Mountfield's SP53 is quality self-propelled, petrol-driven mower. The powerful, reliable STIGA ST170 Autochoke engine and 51cm cutting width combine to produce a hardworking, dependable and easy to use lawnmower.With a robust steel chassis, impressive 53cm cutting width and powerful engine the SP53 makes light work of all lengths of grass. It has a centralised lever to adjust the cutting height of the blade – with six positions to choose from depending on the length of grass you are cutting for a precision cut every time. Grass clippings are collected into a generous 60-litre canvas grass bag complete with 'bag full' indicator. Alternatively if you prefer to mulch the grass this versatile mower also includes a mulching plug. Simply remove the grass bag and insert into the grass chute - grass clippings are then finely cut and recycled back onto the lawn as a nitrogen rich mulch. Mulching is a great way to keep your lawn healthy and also saves time when mowing too with no need to stop to empty the grass bag - win, win!A skid plate is fitted at the front of the cutter deck- this ensures the best possible finish to the lawn and minimises the risk of scalping on uneven surfaces. Storing the SP53 after use is easy – simply clean off any grass, fold down the handles and store in your shed or garage. The SP53 is a quality hard-working mower for large gardens and is backed by a 5-year extended warranty (T&C's Apply) for added peace of mind.

Would have given 5 stars but had to replace 1st order due to damage. The 3nd also has damage but a replacement part was sent. Packaging needs to be revised as these are delivered by 1 man and a trolley, and I believe this is where the damage is occurring. Customer service was excellent, very supportive & kept in contact. Thank you Andy

The mower itself is excellent. Cuts well, easy height adjustment and easy to start. Am not so impressed with the grass collector as it has fallen apart a couple of times. The lower basket relies on a grip system to hold it to the upper portion. Unfortunately the grip system occasionally fails when the collector is full.

I absolutely love this lawnmower. it was easy to assemble. its great value for money. it has arrange of cuts from high to low. . would definitely purchase again and tell my friends and family

The self drive failed within six uses of the lawnmower I am still waiting for Mountfield to respond to my emails . Certainly regret this purchase.

Brilliant machine. This is the second SP53 I have bought - my precious one lasted 13 years, is still working and has been passed on to my grandson. When I decided to buy a new model I didn't hesitate to purchase another SP53.

Starts easily, cuts well, mulching option useful, good bag size. Very small niggles, the loop/holder for the starter pull cable wobbles and cant be tightened. The wheel trims can come loose.

Instructions not absolutely clear for mulching. Highest setting is not that high. I seem to keep it on the highest setting so far.

Easy to use , I like that the pull cord starts the mower easily and it’s not difficult to pull, some mowers I’ve had before you almost dislocate your shoulder trying to pull them. Easy to push well it takes you for a walk. So far very happy. Only niggle was that the courier turned up with no prior notice luckily we were home.

Very happy with my purchase . The only suggestion I would make would be to make the cutting height more flexible as the height between 2 and 3 slot means it would be better in between. otherwise a very good mover
