Easy to assemble
Easy to start and use. Robust and powerful. Happy mowing!
Very good machine
It is now working well but I’m now wary of how reliable it will be moving forward.
My husband loves this lawn mower. It used to take him all weekend to mow the lawns with a battery mower and now it’s 3 hrs!
Easy to use
I bought an SP185 Li Kit lawnmower that come with the E 450 48V 5Ah ePower Battery (274015004/ST1). It is advertised for lawns of 400 sqm - that's a big lawn 10m (30+ft) wide x 40m (130+ft) long. Actual experience: 1. Run time with a full battery using the self propelled is 20 minutes and completes about 1/3rd of that advertised. 2. Run time with a full battery without using the self propelled is 30 minutes (just under) and completes about 1/2 of that advertised. 3. It stops frequently with any slight build-up of cuttings and simply does not deliver sufficient power to cut anything but very short dry grass. 3. The battery takes around 3.5hours to recharge. 4. I contacted Mountfield/Stiga on 26Mar2026 after measuring 6 recharges and uses with my concerns that the battery simply did not deliver to the specification. 5. Having received no reply I followed up my email on 30Mar and again on 08Apr. 6. I called Stiga customer services who noted my emails on their system and that they had not replied. They agreed to pass the problem to their technical support who would contact me. 7. Having received no contact from them, I followed up with Stiga on 15th April. 8. Having still no reply from Stiga I rejected the unit by email on 17Apr and advised them to collect and provide a full refund. 9. I have contacted Stiga customer services on 18thApr, 19thApr, 20thApr and 14th May to which I received automated emails promising replies in the following days. No contact resulted from Mountfield/Stiga on any of the above despite their automated emails. They simply ignore all contact. 10. The unit sits still awaiting collection and refund. It clearly is not suited for the advertised purpose, if grossly underpowered, does not have capacity to last as advertised, and there is no warning that it can only perform on short, dry grass and even then with frequent cut-outs. A singularly useless customer services from Mountfield/Stiga.
Sadly, the product did not work and had to be returned. I was particularly disappointed with the aftercare.
The engine and power are great but the cutting height is awful! I am having to use level 4 to cut my lawn because level 3 scalps the surface so goodness knows what 1 and 2 would do. I think it must be calibrated incorrectly. It is very good at going through long grass on settings 5 and 6 but I am very unimpressed at the range of cutting heights as 1,2,3 are effectively useless.
Mulch Plug does not work. There are gaps all around the fitting when installed. Very poor.
Very good quality lawnmower
My only criticism is that of the grass box. My previous Mountfield petrol mower had a moulded hard plastic base to it, the SP 53 Elite doesn’t seem to offer the same robustness.
Good mower, easy to set up and use
Great machine. Straight forward and easy to use.
Still waiting on an email from Mountfield after receiving a damaged mower. I’ve emailed them twice, filled in the contact form on their site and tried to call. I have the lawnmower unused sitting packaged in my garage. Disgraceful customer service.
Easily built; does what it's supposed to do!

The Mountfield SP53 Elite mower, with the Honda engine, deserves a medal for reliability & endurance. I have owned one for 6 years and would admit that I have thoroughly over-used & abused it, cutting my own large 50m x 50m garden, plus my neighbours garden, and around the local village hall ... sometimes cutting 10" high overgrown grass ... and I have only had it serviced once in 6 years. Despite the abuse, the Honda engine always starts perfectly and runs beautifully. I have sharpened the blade periodically and have seriously bent & replaced the blade once. The forward drive once stopped working, but it turned out that the drive belt had simply slipped off, and nothing was actually broken. So, this is me buying my second Mountfield SP53 Elite Lawnmower, not because I have worn out the first one, but just so that I can actually get the original one properly serviced for the second time in its hardworking life. I note there are a few minor improvements to the newer version, with a more robust looking paint finish on the main body of the machine, and a better height adjustment mechanism. Highly recommended, especially for a fairly budget priced mower for larger gardens.
Great lawn mower, easy to handle. Does a good job
Good mower
