Che Leonard was employed as principal certifier for my house renovation. I found him incredibly difficult to work with. He was rude, slow to respond, and seemed to actively look for ways to fail the project for the sake of his ego. He would nitpick any given part of the build and stay hung up on the most pedantic observations. When asked for his recommendations for compliance he would deflect responsibility and reply that it wasn't his problem. This says that he either didn't care for his client, or that his building knowledge may not line up with the level of competence required from a certifier.
It took Che 2 months after application to come out and perform the final building inspection, whereupon he failed the build and informed us of several issues he had found. Had this been done in a more timely manner, it could have been addressed when the builders were on site, rather than months later. It then took a further 3 months to rectify the issues, with minimal input from Che. When informed that the issues had been rectified, Che proceeded to pick apart the wording of certificates (nails and scredwes [sic]) and would not seek clarification to his own questions, merely deflecting his responsibilities onto myself, the applicant. He then proceeded to bully and intimidate me with a ranting email that led me to file a complaint against him to Fair Trading NSW.
The certifier he was replaced with was worlds above Che in terms of ability, knowledge and punctuality; which further affirms to me that Che has absolutely no idea what he’s doing. The duress placed on my family during the building process was only amplified by his poor attitude. I am of the opinion that Che is negligent, incompetent and intimidating. I would recommend Che reflects on his actions so others might have a better experience with him than I did. This review is my opinion only, based on the experience I had.
