Neat Video Pro is a must-have plugin!

Neat Video Pro is a must-have plugin. As a professional VFX artist working across demanding workflows, I nowadays consider it an essential tool for removing noise and grain from footage, whether it's visibly present or buried deep within the image. It obviously performs exceptionally well on clearly noisy material, but it also shines as a pre-processing step before pulling chroma keys. Regardless of how pristine the footage might appear to the human eye, noise is always present due to the inherent nature of camera sensor sampling patterns. This hidden noise can undermine chroma key performance, introducing edge chatter and compromising alpha channel stability. By applying Neat Video to denoise footage beforehand, keying results become noticeably cleaner.

What makes Neat Video Pro so remarkable is its powerful denoising engine, combined with an intuitive interface and seamless integration across almost all major NLE platforms, including Final Cut Pro that I use regularly. I understand why Apple has chosen to promote Neat Video as a recommended plug-in for Final Cut Pro on their "Final Cut Pro - Ecosystem" page. With Neat Video's recent performance enhancements, rendering is exceptionally fast and the results maintain the visual integrity of the original footage. Unlike other denoisers that tend to produce a flat, artificial "plastic" look, Neat Video preserves natural texture and detail while eliminating noise without degrading image quality in any form.

To illustrate why denoising is so critical, even when working with industry-leading gear, ARRI, the manufacturer of the ALEXA and AMIRA cameras used widely in Hollywood, advises in its technical guidance that green and blue screen plates should be degrained or denoised prior to keying. ARRI notes: “It is useful to degrain/denoise ALEXA/AMIRA green and blue screen plates. Even when the eye cannot see any noise present in the image, there will still be noise present that will have an effect on the keying of these plates.” This underscores a fundamental truth: noise is ever-present, and removing it before keying is crucial for achieving high-quality results.

Neat Video Pro happens to be the perfect tool to fulfill that technical need. Whether you are editing for television, film or digital media, it is not simply a plugin. It is a foundational element of a professional post-production pipeline.
