Area Exterior Recommended Use Fences, gates, cladding (wood, metal, or cement fibre), farm equipment, tanks, drainpipes, gutters, doors, windows, weathered galvanising and plastisol cladding. NOT suitable for stainless steel, decking or existing water repellant treatments. Base Water-Based Coverage Brush or roller: approx 13-15m² per litre, airless sprayer 6-8 m² per litre Drying Time 2 - 4 Hours Re-Coat Time 4 Hours, fully hardened after one month Recommended Coats 2-3 Coats Application Method Brush, Roller, Conventional Spray, Airless Spray VOC Levels Low Clean Up Remove as much paint as possible from the equipment before cleaning with water Preparation Make sure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, dirt, grease, and wax. Scrape or sand away any loose or flaking paint. Remove algae, moss, or fungal growths and treat the area with a suitable fungicidal wash. Lightly sand smooth or glossy surfaces to create a key for the paint to grip. Bare steel must be cleaned thoroughly to remove rust, scale, and dust before priming with Bedec All Metals Primer. Pressure-treated timber should be left to weather for at least six months before painting. Denatured wood should be sanded back to expose fresh cells. Planed, finished, or PSE timber should be abraded to open up the grain and aid penetration. On untreated wood, new timber, cement, render, plaster, brickwork, or other porous surfaces, thin the first coat of Barn Paint with 30% clean water. Where there is a risk of extractive staining (e.g., tannins in timber), apply Bedec Stain Block beforehand. Always test a small area first to check for staining. Treat knots with Bedec Stain Block. (Do not use knotting solution, as it is not compatible.) Allow new creosote to weather for at least three months before overcoating. New galvanised steel does not require etching or priming, but should weather for two months prior to painting. areful preparation is the key to a long-lasting, professional finish. Taking the extra time at this stage will save effort and extend the life of your paintwork. Application Note: always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin. Please test a small area prior to application to ensure you are happy with the adhesion and colour. Can be applied by brush, roller, conventional spray, HVLP, or airless spray. Use even strokes and avoid over-spreading, as this will reduce coverage and durability. Only apply when air and surface temperatures are above 8°C. Do not paint if rain is expected before the surface has fully dried. On sealed or prepared surfaces, apply two to three coats. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next. Aftercare & Storage Clean rim and replace lid firmly after use. Protect from low temperatures (minimum 5°C). Always store and transport in a secure, upright position. Do not hang on a hook to store.

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A water-based barn paint with excellent adhesion and good opacity. My only criticism is that your online calculator is way out for previously unpainted rough-sawn timber which, as you know, is incredibly “thirsty.” My advice would be to double the volume suggested in such circumstances.
