Product details

Brand: Rustins

Overview Rustins Quick Dry Wood Dye is a low-odour, water-based stain designed to transform the colour of wood while enhancing its natural grain. Touch dry in just 20 minutes and ready to over-coat in 2 hours, it offers a fast and convenient way to achieve beautiful, long-lasting results. This fade-resistant, non-bleeding dye is suitable for all types of new bare wood as well as wood that has been stripped or sanded, making it ideal for both interior and exterior projects. Available in White and Grey, the water-based formula penetrates deeply, providing an even, easy-to-apply finish that must be sealed with any Rustins topcoat. Quick-drying, penetrating stain Water-based, low odour Easy to apply Non-fading and non-bleeding Enhances natural wood grain Note: Final colour may vary depending on the original wood tone and the type of finish applied over the dye. Area Interior & Exterior Recommended Use For application to all types of new bare wood and for wood that has been stripped. Base Water-Based Coverage Up to 12m2 per litre Drying Time Touch dry in 30 minutes Re-Coat Time 2 hours under normal conditions of temperature and humidity Recommended Coats 1-2 Coats Application Method Brush VOC Levels Low Clean Up Remove as much product as possible from the equipment before cleaning with water Preparation For best results, take time to properly prepare the wood before applying the dye: Ensure the wood is clean, dry, and free from any wax, grease, dirt, or surface contaminants that could interfere with absorption or adhesion. Remove any existing coatings such as varnish, paint, or stain. These should be completely stripped back to bare wood using suitable sandpaper or a paint/varnish remover. Sand the surface smooth and evenly, working in the direction of the grain to open up the wood pores for better dye penetration. If the wood has been previously waxed, use a wax remover or degreasing solution to ensure no residue remains. Wipe down the surface with a clean, dry cloth to remove all dust and debris before applying the dye. Proper preparation ensures an even, long-lasting finish that truly enhances the natural beauty of the wood. Application Ensure the wood is clean, dry, and free from wax, previous coatings, and all contaminants before starting. Apply an even coat using a brush or clean rag, then wipe away any excess to achieve a uniform finish. The dye may be diluted with water if required, but do not exceed 30% dilution. Always test the colour on a small, inconspicuous area before full application. Do not mix with white spirit or any solvent-based products. Typically 1 coat is sufficient. Apply 2 coats if a lighter or more opaque white finish is desired. Touch dry in approximately 30 minutes under normal conditions. Allow 2 hours between coats, depending on temperature and humidity.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

250ml perfect size for our small wood stain job. Really good coverage when applied liberally with a cloth. Let it fully dry before the second coat and is a good match to the ready stained gate bought elsewhere, but will use the rest to over stain the gate for a perfect match and finish. Thoroughly recommended.
