Preparation For best results, take time to properly prepare the wood before applying the dye:
Ensure the wood is clean, dry, and free from any wax, grease, dirt, or surface contaminants that could interfere with absorption or adhesion.
Remove any existing coatings such as varnish, paint, or stain. These should be completely stripped back to bare wood using suitable sandpaper or a paint/varnish remover.
Sand the surface smooth and evenly, working in the direction of the grain to open up the wood pores for better dye penetration.
If the wood has been previously waxed, use a wax remover or degreasing solution to ensure no residue remains.
Wipe down the surface with a clean, dry cloth to remove all dust and debris before applying the dye.
Proper preparation ensures an even, long-lasting finish that truly enhances the natural beauty of the wood. Application Ensure the wood is clean, dry, and free from wax, previous coatings, and all contaminants before starting.
Apply an even coat using a brush or clean rag, then wipe away any excess to achieve a uniform finish.
The dye may be diluted with water if required, but do not exceed 30% dilution.
Always test the colour on a small, inconspicuous area before full application.
Do not mix with white spirit or any solvent-based products.
Typically 1 coat is sufficient.
Apply 2 coats if a lighter or more opaque white finish is desired.
Touch dry in approximately 30 minutes under normal conditions.
Allow 2 hours between coats, depending on temperature and humidity.
