Evaluating 108 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complained about overpriced games and aging consoles, feeling that the business has become overly greedy. Many people also experienced extremely frustrating issues with unhelpful customer support representatives, poor product durability, and poorly functioning online digital stores. Some people were satisfied with the core entertainment value and fun gameplay, despite the very steep costs of official hardware accessories. A few reviewers remain huge loyal fans who love the nostalgic titles and classic hardware, finding genuine joy in using their favorite portable gaming devices.

A Complete Nightmare for Multi-Console Families

If you have more than one child and are planning on buying multiple Nintendo Switch consoles for your household, turn around and run away. We invested heavily in three consoles for our family, and the digital game-sharing system is completely anti-consumer and broken.

Nintendo uses an aggressive 'Primary vs. Secondary' device lockout system. If you buy a digital game, only one console can play it offline. Moreover, I had to sign into the parent account in the nintendo store to buy a game on one switch but then we couldn't play the game on that switch (the one we purchased it with) because the Nintendo parent account is associated with a different switch... The other consoles require a mandatory internet check just to launch the software, completely ruining the portability aspect during road trips or travel. Worse yet, if you try to reset this system remotely while away from home, Nintendo locks you out with an arbitrary one-year cooldown timer on their website. Low-level support is powerless to override it. A company built on 'family entertainment' has created the most hostile, rigid multi-device environment on the market. We are completely wiping our systems, selling the hardware, and walking away from the ecosystem entirely.

Nintendo has its ups and downs

IMO Nintendo is a alr company. Sure they charge high prices for games but they've been making them since 1981 what do you expect? Nintendo CAN charge you high price for stuff like the switch 2. But the switch 2 is basically the switch but better. but it doesn't need the Gamechat feature or 600$ price tag. Nintendo hates fan games and takes them down btu i get it. protective of your ip.

PARENT WARNING: Don’t Buy Digital Switch Games If You Have Multiple Consoles

Please read full review below for more details. But i will summarize for quicker reading and understanding.

Summary———————————————
Nintendo changed their policy on digital games and it is a money grab trap. If you, like me, have children, you may have or are considering buying more than one switch. Which is fine, but DO NOT buy any digital downloads. It will not save you money and will not allow those games to be played if the switches are separated.

My case: I travel for work and enjoyed my kids switch. So my company bought me my own switch as part of an award program. I started buying digital downloads for my kids and myself. This worked well under the old policy. To load a game I had to be connected to the internet and only one of the switches could play the digital game at a time. No problem with that. The new policy requires the switches to be on the same network, in the same room to move digital games between the consoles. But it gets worse. I was traveling with my switch and had some free time. I connected to the internet and started playing a game I had loaded virtually. I usually only load a game or two and only ones my children don’t play. Nintendo locked my children out of all their games and told me the only way to unlock them was to my switch next to their switch. I was 8000 miles away. So yeah, with digital downloads, you have to keep them together. So dont buy, just get physical cards…. Shame on Nintendo for this, it is not ethical and they deserve to lose customers and interest in their platforms to the other system manufacturers for developing a policy that doesn’t allow a mobile system to work when one or more go mobile.

I have tried to complain to Nintendo about this and their solution “create your children full accounts with their own funds and buy the game again”

No…. You garbage company!!!

End of summary————————————

If you are a parent buying digital download games from the Nintendo eShop for a household with multiple Nintendo Switch systems, be warned: Nintendo’s ecosystem is anti-consumer and heavily restrictive compared to PlayStation, Xbox, or physical media.
Before you spend hundreds on digital downloads, you need to understand the hidden risks and restrictions of their "Virtual Game Card" and "Online License" systems:
The Anti-Co-Op Restriction: If you buy a digital game (like Mario Kart or Splatoon), you cannot play multiplayer together online across two separate consoles using that single digital purchase. The system actively blocks simultaneous online play. To play together online, Nintendo forces you to buy the exact same game twice.
The Room Arrest Requirement: Nintendo’s "Virtual Game Card" sharing feature sounds convenient but requires severe physical proximity. If your kids want to "lend" a digital game to a sibling or family group member, both Switch consoles must be in the exact same room to sync via local wireless. You cannot share digital games remotely with a child who is away or traveling.
The 14-Day Expiration Trap: When you do manage to pass a digital game to a child in your family group, it automatically expires and is "returned" to the buyer after 14 days. Your kids will constantly have to re-pair their consoles in person just to keep playing games you already paid for.
The Travel/Offline Lockout: If you rely on their alternative "Online License" system for traveling, the secondary console must check the internet to verify the game license. If your child is in a car, on a plane, or away from Wi-Fi, the system will completely lock them out of playing their digital games after a short period of time.
The Verdict:
Nintendo's digital infrastructure treats paying parents like thieves. If you have more than one child or multiple Switch consoles in your home, strictly stick to buying physical cartridges. Physical games can be passed around freely without internet handshakes, proximity restrictions, or arbitrary 14-day expiration dates. Avoid the eShop digital trap.

I would not even give Nintendo console…

I would not even give Nintendo console 1 star. It appears to have been sold from a faulty batch affected by corrosion damage caused by humidity during manufacturing. The console developed extensive corrosion damage despite only being used a handful of times over the three months since purchase.
I am extremely disappointed with Nintendo’s handling of the situation. Although the device is still under warranty, they have refused to take responsibility. They stated that they will only accept inspection reports from repair centres accredited by them, yet there are effectively none available in the UK unless you work directly for Nintendo.
It feels as though Nintendo acts as judge, jury, and prosecutor — whatever decision they make cannot realistically be challenged.

Bought a the OLED switch 1.5 years ago and have looked after the device - kept it in a case, it’s been in the same place and has light use. The circuit board has already failed and the Nintendo will no longer switched on. Being charged $300 by Nintendo themselves for a repair.

These things don’t last like they used to.

Terrible AI "service"

My credit card was stolen, canceled. Auto renewal comes & I'm emailed a link to renew. Obviously my card changed. There's no way to change it through the link. I try chatting with chat bot. It claims it will give a human. Then it wastes my time for 45 minutes giving useless info with no human. Didn't renew. Nintendo can get bent.

Money grabbers

They force people to buy the new console by making new games exclusive when the old one works perfectly fine! Then, the new switch already is irritating me as hell, when connected to tv it starts to make noise by the hdmi cable! When I disconnect and connect again it stops for a while then the noise is back driving me insane. The old pro controller (which is also working fine!) doesnt wake up the switch 2?!! Because they want to force more money??? And the games are so expensive yet the cartridge only has a key to download? Wtf

Xavier who is a superior….it’s unfortunate that you SUCK at trying to understand and comprehend the situation.. and then when I request to speak to someone else you tell me I’m not going to then hang up…. How do you (Nintendo Support) want me to provide you with debit/CC disputed transaction and ID number from an account I don’t even know… SINCE MY ACCT was hacked almost 5 years ago!!! Every time I have tried to get this resolved I get the run around excuse after excuse! Acct was hacked.. hacker used said debit/cc the “actual” owner disputes Nintendo refunds… MY acct has a ban can’t be lifted until I PROVIDE bank info on said debit /cc and provide disputed info.. THEN tell me tha even if the SUPPORT TEAM reaches out and confirms all info.. YOU WILL NOT LIFT MY BAN bcuz they are not MY acct holder and vice verse to the debit/CC ….. WHAT THE ACTUAL FRENCH TOAST!! 2 weeks of alllll this BS and still waiting for another response to talk to “supposedly hire up than who I talked to!!!

Great, but not anymore.

I think Nintendo is pretty great. But they are getting greedy. Like, I really want to play BOTW 2, but you can only get it on Switch 2, with is around 800$. It's barely a improvement from the Switch. It just has better graphics, and less lag. I haven't tested it, but definitely doesn't sound worth it. They were great, until they wern't.
