I was surprised to see the negative reviews below - I have been totally frustrated trying to get details on a domain name until I realised I had originally booked through Nominet and they were a breath of fresh air - specifically Tim Dalby. He was able to help me see what was going wrong and I really wished I was still being looked after by them (and am planning to go back to one they manage).
The negatives below seem to refer to companies registered outside of the UK, if this means Nominet are ensuring there is security and transparency/trackability on the internet, then that can only be a good thing!

Had a ltd.uk domain registered for nearly two decades, Companies House forced a name change, due to rule change 4 years after incorporation, Nominet cancel domain. Regained company name. Requested Nominet to reinstate domain. Didn't reply. Called a week or so later, advised don't offer this service anymore. Request list of authorised providers then (for ltd.uk) they don't have one. Not fit for purpose.
High-handed, self-appointed parasites
My company received a domain renewal notice on Sunday 11th March. Nominet suspended our website and email by 10.30 the following morning 12th March without further notice. Completely outrageous behaviour from a high-handed, self-imposed bureaucracy. Nominet is a parasitical agency with whom we entered no contract. The only business they’re good for is apparently their own. No wonder the Lyons Review was so scathing of them and their response to that Review was a disgrace.
Suspend domains
Nominet now tries to police the Internet and suspends domains if they cannot verify your details. They seem to have trouble doing this if you are based ourside of the UK and are not a huge company.
Only domain I had suspended in over 20 years.
Causes so much trouble when it happened.

Great Communication!.I got support until my problem solved with No Hassle at all (Thank you very much for that Lucy Nicholls )
For me
For me, nominet have proved a godsend. One of my domains was transferred away to another ISP, and nominet sent personal details of how to solve the problem. They must have a huge mailbag to handle, but - for us, so far - they have been first-rate.

Disgusting company policy regarding sharing your data with the whole world and all they unswer you back is to pay them fee to stop it. I have received over 50 contacts to create a Web for me which I do not need

I have been a member of Nominet for a few years now and today they, Nominet tried to blackmail me, I called back and complained, it took about 2 min for Jonathan Watkins Head of Service Delivery to take the call and apologise for what happened but the fact is it did happen.
I have now cancelled my membership..
The staff at Nominet have always been first class, in my opinion but the further up you go the more corrupt Nominet gets.
