Absolute crooks

Absolute crooks. My meter stopped working. They did nothing. I complained for a year and carried on paying estimated bills. They finally sent someone to fix the meter and gave me a bill of £2k. Totally ridiculous. Complained at every level. Provided bills going back 10 years. Proved we could never use anything like that amount - on top of our usual usage of £800 a year. Had to pay or go to court. Paid. Complained to Regulator. Claim was timed out. £2k out of pocket. Scum. Avoid. Moved to Octopus.

Horrible company

My father had a heart attack and while in a medically induced coma in ICU missed a payment on his electricity bill agreement. They subsequently showed up, and threatened to cut off electricity to my parents home.

I rang and spoke to someone, who's comment was 'well why can't you pay out of his account..' Completely ignoring that I had no access to his account, and he was not yet awake.

At no point was the person reasonable, and eventually I made the payment for him out of my personal account. However, when I filed a complaint, it was ignored.

As soon as he was able to sign paperwork, I switched providers for him.

NPower selling old debts to bailifs, no due dilligence

Looks like npower knew they were going to be merged with EON, then sold all their unresolved accounts/debts to Lowell debt collection. I have this problem - I sent meter readings, never received a final bill, then 2 years later received a letter from Lowell and npower saying I owed a debt (much larger than it should have been). EON now own npower accounts, and their customer service is worse than npower. Go to the ombudsman people!

Stay away from this company

Stay away from this company! I had a 3 year contract with them for my gym and they were constantly over-charging. Luckily I had the money to pay but I hate to think how much stress I would have been under had I not been making much money and still being robbed by this business. I definitely recommend looking elsewhere!

Diabolical

Very similar experience to others who have commented. I recently received a letter from Lowell asking me to pay a debt which I am sure I do not owe, as it relates to a property I lived in more than 6 years ago. This stinks of fraud and I will be writing to the relevant authorities.

Recent Npower Fraud Involving Lowell and Eon

I, like previous posts recently about Npower, have a similar story. I was a Npower customer until the summer of 2017 (4 years ago). At the end there was a debt of £500, it took some time to pay off as I had been a student, however by 2019 it was paid off in full.
Unfortunately, last week I received a letter notifying me that I owe the debt on the account once again. This letter was from Npower/Lowell. I have contacted Lowell, who has said that they will investigate the report. I have also been in contact with Eon, the current parent company/owners of Npower, who say they can find no information about my account (presumably because it doesn’t exist.).

So, clearly this is either a computer error if I am giving the benefit of doubt to these companies, or deliberate fraudulent activity. It is not so clear as to which company would be committing the fraud if that is the case....

What I will be doing is contacting the UK Action fraud (Police organisation), Citizens Advice Bureau (for legal support), and the Financial Ombudsman. If anyone is experiencing the same problems, I would advise them to take the same course of action.

In addition to this I would like other victims of this fraud case to come forward and contact me personally to build a stronger case against whomever is committing this fraud and stay in touch with each other for developments, whether it be Npower, Eon, Lowell, or even perhaps a third party which we should be taking action against.

Social Media name: Laurence Bonning-schmitt

I will post this to the Npower, Eon Next, and Lowell Trustpilot pages.

This company is the pitts

This company is the pitts. I left a while ago becsuse they were so bad a company and error after error after error and rude customer service staff. I had a payment plan for dept owed. Not a lot of money but never missed a payment now they have sold my dept to a dept company but the dept has doubled they sold my dept for twice the amount owed and now I have to deal with loan sharks with premium rate phone numbers no email address to write to. Just online forms to fill in that they don't answer. If npower had told me I would have cleared the dept rather than be in the hands of sharks.

Debt collection 6 years after account closed and balance paid

I lived in a property for 5 months supplied by Npower. This was in July 2015 (6 years ago). When I moved out I provided a meter reading, paid a final bill and closed the account. I received notice from Npower regarding an outstanding debt in November 2015 saying I owed money. I was very confused as I had provided a meter reading and closed the account. Apparently Npower had calculated the final bill wrong and hadn’t tried to contact me via phone/email even though they had these details. I paid the amount requested and that was it. Never heard anything from Npower again until now in July 2021 - I have received a debt collection letter from Lowell saying I owe them £90. I called Npower to dispute it, it turns out Npower is now part of Eon and the advisor could not provide any information about what this debt is. He simply said Npower don’t exist any more and there are no records he can access or bills he can provide. I explained that Barclays only keep transaction histories for 5 years so I couldn’t see back that far on online banking to provide proof of what I paid. Of course I won’t have any proof of meter readings, payments, bills and so on because it’s been SIX YEARS. The advisor told me I should tell the debt collection agency that I’ve already paid the debt, but Eon can’t / won’t prove that it exists. This is completely illegal as they must be able to prove a debt exists in order to try to claim it. Apparently they don’t have any records of previous payments I’ve made to my account.

The whole thing stinks and I suspect they deliberately wait so long because it makes it so hard for customers to prove what they have paid. They had no legitimate right to share my information with a debt collection agency if they don’t have proof of the debt existing. This company will have obtained my current address through using credit records or access to electoral roll which they had no right to access in this situation.

I have written a formal complaint to Npower/Eon and Lowell and I will absolutely be making reports to Energy Ombudsman, Financial Ombudsman and Financial Conduct Authority. I will also be making a complaint regarding the sharing of my personal data with this company which I believe is contrary to data protection laws.

Energy companies and their rampant use of dodgy debt collection agencies (which have access to everyone’s personal data through credit and electoral records, which is intended to be reserved for legitimate financial companies) need to be regulated a lot more tightly than they are.

Update: after spending hours digging up any proof I could and providing details to Lowells, they acknowledged that there is no debt and closed my account. Shocking they can do this to people.

Never missed a payment but they sold my details to a debt collection agency.
I moved to a new suppler a few years ago after, through their errors, a large bill built up. We agreed a repayment plan and I have never missed a payment but now I have to deal with legalized load sharks.
Not the terms I agreed to and alien to me and causing extreme levels of stress all through no fault of my own.

Just had bill from debt collection…

Just had bill from debt collection agency having moved 3 months ago!! They 'sold' our account. On contacting NPower they knew nothing about us. After massively distressing call for my wife, we are given 2 numbers, both are dead lines. Contact debt agency and they confirmed it had been paid. NPower took the money 1.5months ago, yet still sold our details to debt collection agency. Reckless and poor. Will never use them again.

Wildly over estimated bills...

I believe NPower has now been taken over by E.On, who I have also left a review for, but many may not realise this and still search NPower if wanting to find reviews.

I live in a flat, and have done for many years now, and when I moved in, back in 2013, it was already with NPower. OK fair enough.

The difficulty that I had, is that my flat came with an Economy 10 meter, which virtually no one would use now, and it was very hard to get a price comparison, online and find another company I could move to.

(I did ultimately move to Bulb, and had the meter changed to E7 and have been very happy since).

The biggest issue I found, was that NPower would regularly over charge me when estimating my bills. I had to regularly give them "readings" to ensure it was correct, otherwise their "estimated" pricing was way off the mark and I could never understand where their "estimations" came from, considering the months before, in the same season, was smaller.

Now I appreciate you should always provide readings, and not rely on estimation, but it was made awkward by the fact their "app" wouldn't accept readings from my meter, and you couldn't email in the information.

I had to call them every, single time, to give a reading. Something that could take a while to do and I just wasn't comfortable doing it.

You then had extremely confusing bills, which would require a mathematician, to make sense of and when asking an "expert" for help, even they struggled.

Again, not helped by having an E10 meter at the time.

When asking NPower about changing from an E10 to E7, they seemed to make it so much more complicated then it needed to be. One Engineer would say "it can't be done", while a second would say it could, and back and forth. It was done ultimately though and thank God.

Once the meter was changed and I was finally able to leave NPower, we had the fun of them attempting (and ultimately did) charging me several hundred pound, in costs, to leave. Again, I found it near impossible to argue against this, because my bills were cryptic to understand.

I just paid and was done with them.

I then, as above, moved to Bulb and has had no issues. I review is up for that company too.

Eon next took over npower rip off.

Eon next took over npower, we were £380 in credit paying £89 a month.
We then get a bill from Eon Next for £154 a month , after being on the phone for over an hour they make out that we owe £500??
They decide to do payments of £120 for 10 months but I am fuming and think I'm being conned, we were told we are migrants from n power and got lost in the system.
WHAT CAN WE DO???

This company could not lie straight in bed. Missed appointments to remove a meter, then said they had been to the property, no were in lockdown plus we have security cameras i told the Moron on the other end of the phone. They pulled this stunt twice December last year and then in January. Then as they have been taken over by E.ON NEXT the meter still has not been removed in 6 months. So no choice but to complain to the Ombudsman...No call backs from managers no deadlock letter PURE SCUM of a company no wonder there no longer in existance
