Never again
I have consistently purchased my airplane tickets and rental car reservations together as part of comprehensive travel packages. This process has generally been smooth and hassle-free, and I have not encountered any issues with this particular company until recently. They requested additional charges, including toll fees and excessive insurance premiums. I typically use my own car insurance for such rentals. I am very disappointed that booking sites are partnering with a company that is not BBB-accredited. They even offered a reduced rate—$350 instead of $500—if I couldn't afford the higher amount. I immediately canceled the reservation because it seemed suspicious and possibly a scam. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!
This is a total scam
This is a total scam. They don't tell you about the insurance that your forced to take. Even if you provide your own they will deny it. They hold you responsible if the car breaks down! Yes. That's not a misprint. You have to buy their roadside assistance to cover you, another charge. On top of your half hour shuttle to the location and 10 people in front of you to check in with only 1 person working. It's not even worth it if it's free.

The worst pseudo-car rental company, a complete scam.
This company is a rip-off; they advertise on Booking.com for a promotional daily rate of $11.70 for 3 days. I purchased the insurance for $48 USD. Here's the story: virtual check-in on a computer. The process was slow, and they asked for all the documents again that I had already scanned beforehand. They didn't have access to them, so why did they ask me to scan them in advance, etc.? Their voucher process is completely useless. Then, because I live in Florida, the pre-purchased insurance wasn't valid, meaning I basically gave them $48 USD for nothing. I also had to pay for the SunPass transponder per day, plus tolls, and use my own insurance, etc. They charged me an additional $125.43. They have many hidden clauses; everyone who was picking up their cars was complaining, they don't give refunds, etc. It's terrible, the worst car rental company in the USA. It's unbelievable that Booking.com promotes this garbage.

DONT DO IT!!!!
Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. From the fact that it was off airport site, no in person Customer service, the bait and switch in regard to pricing, the exorbitant deposit, and let’s get to the car itself. It was the nastiest car rental I have ever had, the seats were stained and disgusting. The car was dented up and looked like some high school seniors beater, the maintenance light was on, they didn’t even bother to wash the car on the outside and let’s not talk about all the scratches and dents. I literally don’t know how this company is still in business. Do not do it.!!!!! you are not saving anything by trying to avoid the larger car companies. I pray I never experienced anything like this again.

N U Car Rental is by far the worst car…
N U Car Rental is by far the worst car rental company I’ve ever dealt with. They operate like a scam. They require you to purchase their insurance, and even if you already have full coverage, they still force a mandatory “rental loss” fee of $128 or more at pickup — a charge you cannot decline.
Their location is not at the airport as suggested. It’s actually at 2900 SE 6th Ave, far from the terminal, and if you’re not a local, you’re essentially trapped into accepting their fees, especially during busy travel periods. This rental loss fee is never disclosed during booking on Priceline; it’s completely hidden, which is deceptive because no legitimate rental company charges this type of fee. The only reason their prices appear low is because they make up for it by hitting you with these charges once you arrive.
The customer service is extremely rude and disrespectful on top of everything else. This company engages in predatory and unfair business practices, and I’ve reported them for their deceptive tactics. Avoid this company at all costs, or you will end up paying outrageous, unnecessary fees. Also the car they gave me was half empty and had scratches all over the vehicle, when asked to change it they offered a compact car without discount. Worst company ever. I hope they go out of business soon!!
This rental company engages in UDAAP by deceiving consumers, failing to disclose fees, and using abusive business practices.
These actions fall under Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP) and should be investigated by the appropriate regulatory authorities. Everyone should report them. Please report them to FTC, CPB, & DOT for UDAAP as no other car rental is charging this fees and they should be held accountable for scamming and forcing people to buy it at time of picking up car. Many travelers who booked in advance were forced to buy it when they declined it. This is an illegal tactic. These travelers were visibly upset and felt scammed. No one should take advantage of travelers to make $$$$. This is a Udaap violation.

Scam of a lifetime
At 65 World traveler and this was the worst experience!!! Rented 2 supposed suv's (not received) of site in no ware, 3 1/2 hr shake down. Seriously is this controlled by the mafia? I was so mad was shaking! No live person only monitors, sign and don't see what your signing...and then credit card fraud of multiple charges on credit card... This is a criminal enterprise if ever was one!!! Don't just walk away, run!!! They responded contact the center email like we've not tried every Avenue. Now some months later they post here like they are trying to do something when they know how slimy they are. Just read the other reviews. They can care less about the customer and are only out to scam. We feel nauseated even having to respond but want others to be warned. Horrible!!!! Also, if you look at any positive reviews they have mostly foreign names, I'm sure its every relative of the company as no one would give a good review! We've given info many times, you don't care! Scamers

You need negative stars ratings because…
You need negative stars ratings because NU car rentals is some trash! They are nothing more than scammers off the top. Had a reservation thru Hotwire back in August. Hoteire said it was guaranteed for 24 hrs on the date of the reservation. We arrive in Miami and caught the off site shuttle for rentals.
Once we pulled up, I knew it was gonna be some bullshit. First of all it looked like a chop shop , we go inside and the reservation is a virtual rep……….yeah the counter was empty which means they know they are with the shits and don’t want to deal with the customer face to face.
Rep comes on and we give reservation number and she says you guys are an 1 and a half late so are reservation is no longer valued. Like wtf, we explained the situation and that hotwire guaranteed a 24 hr reservation on day of rental. The repnthen says at that point they can downgrade or upgrade………they only could upgrade and they only had minivans available. Mind you our rental for 4 days thru them originally was 33 dollars…….she says the minivan is 300 dollars a day…….like what………gtfoh, I was born at night but not last night. We got back in the shuttle and went back to MIA airport and rented a car.

NU Ren Car
I recently rented a car from NU Rent Car and had an extremely disappointing experience regarding toll charges. At pickup, I explicitly informed the attendant that I would use my own SunPass transponder and pay tolls directly. There was no warning about any penalties or administrative fees for doing so.
Weeks later, I was shocked to receive a charge of $290.83, which included $25 per toll in “administrative fees” plus capped toll costs—even though tolls were already paid through my personal device. This policy was never clearly explained, and the fees are excessive and punitive.
When I raised the issue, the company refused to reconsider or waive any portion of the charges, citing the rental agreement. This demonstrates a lack of transparency, poor customer service, and predatory practices.
I strongly advise anyone considering NU Rent Car to avoid this company. Their unclear policies and rigid approach can lead to unfair charges and a frustrating experience.

Stay away from the smaller, off airport property car rental agencies..
I booked my car rental through Capital One Travel and reserved the mid size sedan for $85 for a 10 day rental. Upon arriving in Miami, Florida on Oct. 6, 2025; I was given the option to pay additional charges for insurance ($294, my insurance was not acceptable), additional driver fee of $150 optional, and a sun pass toll road fob for $13.95/day= $140 additional for 10 days. To cancel my rental car reservation would be non refundable of $85. I declined the sun pass toll road fob, bringing my total to $529 for a Nissan Sentra for 10 days. Our flight departing Miami was at 8:30a.m. on Oct. 16, 2025, and we wanted to eat at the airport lounge before departing. We arrived at the rental car office at 6:30a. The office was closed and there wasn't any shuttle service to the airport until 8:00a.(what they conveniently failed to mention). Also, there was no dropbox for the car fob. We contacted miami-dade police to witness that we left the car fob in the mailbox and the police officer gave us a ride to the airport. We barely made it in time to catch our flight home, no time for breakfast. Two days after returning to Houston, there was an additional withdrawal on my capital one credit card for $25.28. Apparently, even with the filters on Google maps navigation turned to 'no toll roads,' it still led us through one .28 cent toll which was charged a $25 penalty fee plus the cost of the toll. Just a cherry on the cake for doing business with a 'get every penny we can out of our customers' company like Nu Car rentals/Horsepower Car rentals L. std. Total scam!! Capital one credit/Travel is normally an upstanding company to do business with. Why they would even show such a low class company as an option on their Travel booking site, in itself, boggles my mind. I should have known $85 for a 10 day rental was fishy from the start.

Do not rent from them! Bait and switch pricing structure . FORCED ADD ONS!!
The pricing structure was a “bait and switch” operation. Getting to the place was a longer than expected, waved for the shuttle and we had to walk all the way through the airport. The place itself was in a shady area. We walked into. It appeared to be a reception area. I waited in line….. then the driver of the shuttle came in and said no you need to go into that little booth so we went into a little booth and there was a video link for a service rep gave her our confirmation and she said we had to fax a declaration of our insurance so luckily I had one saved on the cloud my declaration has our birthdate. It’s all our personal information autos where we live and when they got it, they said “ I spoke with my supervisor and they said that they don’t accept your insurance!” so basically we were being forced to buy their insurance at the rate of an additional $300 then we had to pay for the tolls which we knew nothing about and that was unlimited tolls for an additional $200 anyway it was quite shady. We therefore declined to rent a car from them three other Guests also experienced the same. And we were all quite frustrated so we had to have the Charlotte guy give us a ride back to the airport now we had to pay top rate for at the counter bookings so please save yourself some time and do not rent with this company do not repeat do not rent from them…RUN!

The Worst Car Rental Experience of My Life – Priceline Should Drop Them Immediately
I wish I had checked the reviews before booking, but because I found NU Car Rental through Priceline, I trusted it would be a legitimate, reputable company. That was a mistake.
Exactly what everyone else online is complaining about happened to me. Even though I have full-coverage insurance with a $1,000 deductible for my Lexus, NU Car Rental claimed my GEICO insurance “wasn’t good enough” and refused to rent me the car unless I purchased their additional $170 “mandatory” insurance policy. Then, they tried to sell me a $70 toll pass, and the entire experience quickly spiraled into a complete scam.
When I said I wanted to cancel, they told me my money was non-refundable. That was also a lie — I contacted Priceline and got my money back. NU Car Rental is running a classic bait-and-switch operation: lure you in with an artificially low rate, then trap you with extra charges once you’re off the airport property, tired, and just trying to start your trip.
Getting to their location is another nightmare. After baggage claim, you have to walk to the opposite side of the airport, take a train, and then wait for a shuttle that eventually drops you off in a sketchy industrial area miles from the terminal. Once there, you discover there are no real employees on site — just a weird kiosk with a video screen where you talk to someone remotely. Honestly, I suspect they do this to avoid the angry customers they seem to create daily.
This company should be blacklisted by Priceline and every other travel platform. It’s dishonest, inconvenient, and operates like a scam designed to prey on travelers who are out of options.
If you value your time, money, and sanity — avoid NU Car Rental at all costs.

Where do I start
Where do I start? When I booked, there was no clear notice that Florida residents don’t receive unlimited miles—something they charge extra for. How does that make sense when I live in Miami? On top of that, they require a $500 deposit, and the car I received was dirty inside and out, tires are at there end and dents and scratches from the agent are hard to see, so I took my own and sent it to them. In the end, I ended up paying more than I would have with one of the larger, more reputable rental companies. Lets see how it goes when I return the car and how long it takes the deposit back.
PART 2:
Email sent to your with pictures of the electronics in the car not working as well. The battery died and I had to get it jumped in the rain. We spent hours on the phone with your "customer service" to try to see if they could change it or get someone out to our hotel to check it. They wanted a picture of the battery in the rain and also video of me starting the car. There was some kind of short in the car and the company you sent to check it said when he was checking the battery it was draining his as well.

DO NOT RENT HERE. IT'S A SCAM. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
DO NOT RENT HERE. IT'S A SCAM. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
I would have given it Zero Stars if that was an option. I reserved my reservation through Priceline for one day. The total price for the reservation was $16.63. The light bulb should have gone off then that something was wrong. If it is too good to be true there is a catch. The location is off site from the airport, Miami International Airport. I had to wait for about 10 minutes for the shuttle. Not Bad. When we pulled to the location my stomach became queasy. The location looked like a shack. Inside the building was a sign that you had to use the virtual assistant rather than a human being. There were two booths. Inside you encountered a screen. I clicked on the screen and saw a message (see pic) that said, "We are connecting you with one of our representatives now." After waited for 15 minutes only to receive a message (see pic) that said, All of our representatives are currently unavailable; someone will be with you shortly." I heard the person in the booth next to me complete his transaction with the representative so I immediately changed to that booth while she was still connected. The first hiccup was when the representative told me that a $500.00 hold would be placed on my AmEx. I challenged why so much. The usual and customary hold is $200.00-$300.00. I have NEVER had a hold exceeding $300.00 placed on a car rental and I rent cars regularly as I travel often. Next, I was offered liability and collision damage coverage. I informed the representative that I had coverage through AmEx. She then wanted to see the AmEx declaration page. When I refused to provide her with this information she then requested to see the declaration page of my personal auto insurance. The more information she requested the more I began to understand that this was a scam. Why did she need access to all this information? So that they could initiate a claim for some trumped up damage to the car? I refused to provide her with any of the declaration pages she requested. The final request was when she offered me toll road coverage. I was told that $29.00 would cover all the toll road charges. When I asked why I could not just pay for the tolls I used or be billed I was told that I would be charged $25.00 for EACH toll I used. At that point I informed the representative that I would not proceed with the rental as this was nothing more than a scam. I was visiting family so called and someone picked me up. My plan was to reserve a car with a reputable company. NU Car is NOT A REPUTABLE COMPANY. IT IS A SCAM AND FRAUDULENT. The total charges would have exceeded $500.00 for a 24hour reservation. NU Car entices you with a cheap rental rate then adds on fees that were never explained in the rental up front and are usary. While waiting to be picked up I saw customers either react the same way I did, NOT fall victim to NU Car's fraudulent practices and cancel the reservation or customers jumping through hoops to obtain the declaration pages to their auto policies that the representative offered to assist with obtaining. I am sharing my experience with Priceline.
In retrospect, I am very upset with Priceline and all the Booking Holdings portfolio ie Priceline, Bookings.com and Kayak for even offering this dishonest, disreputable, fraudulent company to unsuspecting customers. This company is not rated by the BBB. The reviews of this company by customers is readily available. Booking Holdings should know so why, why do you offer this company to us? We expect that ALL companies have been vetted and deemed REPUTABLE. Where is the accountability Booking Holdings?

TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE
TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. Well, I fell for it and paid. It's incredible they are still in business when 1 star is more than their 5 stars which is more likely family and friends. Very deceptive. I traveled to their location by Miami Airport because I fell for their cheap price. Only to be told that because I don't have insurance (I don't own a car so that's why I am renting) that I needed insurance for the 14 days which added another $380 to the check. And let's not forget all the taxes that's included after the initial tally. Bunch of crooks. After this I will report them to the BBB but as we can see, they are still in business.

Very Very Bad Bad Company
I have never seen such a dirty business in my life and I rented without looking at the comments but I will never rent from this company again. They did not add it to my own insurance and they say they do this to everyone but it does not say anything like that on the website and they definitely did not accept it. The vehicles are disgusting and very dirty. Do not rent a car from this company and they say it is cheap but they make it very expensive. There is no insurance, there is no, they are complete liars.

Great experience!
My experience with Nu Car rental was excellent. Even though I waited 10 minutes in line and if you are not in a hurry, it was worth it. I got an upgrade for the same price and they took part of my car insurance which I ended up paying half price compared to a regular car rental place. The Clerk explained everything in detail with profesionalism, it pays sometimes when you get out of your comfort zone.
