Discrimination

Discrimination! Very disappointed. The Vine, a non-denominational Church recently contacted Ocean State Job Lot regarding a recent empty building in Milford, NH and were told that they would not rent to a Church. Why is my question? This is discrimination against Churches.
I will think twice before I ever shop at Ocean State Job Lot.

If I could leave negative stars I would…

If I could leave negative stars I would have. I went there today for my first and last visit. They had a special where if you spent 30.00 you got 40% back in the form of a gift card. Wellllll Not only didn’t I receive the gift card but I was charged an additional 40% on my bill!! This feels like a scam. I went in today and was charged for the “gift card”—and I have the receipt to prove it.

#OceanStateJobLot this is really disappointing. I expected better transparency and ethics. I tried calling the store but of course no one answered the phone. Great customer service !!!!!! NOT

Horrible experience

Horrible experience with a store worker in Deptford NJ
Asked her where a certain item was located, didn’t even bother looking at me or answering me, just pointed to a certain area. Then as I was looking for my item, she winded up behind me pushing her cart saying “excuse me” in a very nasty sarcastic way, then just nodded her head in disgust as she passed me.
Poor management for hiring such a horrible person.

Wonderful work environment.

Hi, I am an employee and customer of OSJL in Bennington, Vermont. We are a tight group. It all starts with my manager, Renata Newton. She is supportive and kind and it flows down hill. I am 73 years old. I just love her. Treating me right only makes me want to work harder for her! We are not just a business ,here, we are a family. Thank you, Renata.

Great Service amazing workers!

I had the pleasure to be in contact with 2 employees a week ago on Sunday, who were so very kind, professional and willing to help! So refreshing in a store! Their names are Dayveon Francois, Frank Greenberg, Dilk Waldon- hopefully I spelled them right! I was so pleased I have been back several times! I even bought a Christmas present for my son, and they were again so helpful to get the bag that went to it, got it in my cart, and even offered to take it out to my car, but I politely declined, they had done so much for me already. GREAT EMPLOYEES...

On 3/09/2025, I purchased four bags of strawberry roots at Ocean State Job Lot store in Sparta, NJ. The roots come in the dark fully sealed bag, which prevents a customer from inspecting the item before buying. Upon opening the bags, all roots were brown with slime coming out at the top of the crow. They were all dead and couldn’t be planted. Since the bags are opened, it means I wasted $20 for merchandise I cannot return. So, the store’s policy is: A full refund will be issued for unopened flowering/vegetable bulbs and seed packets within 31 days of purchase with an original sales receipt. This means, I cannot return the rotten strawberries. They know well that the product is rotten and they don’t stand by the quality of their products, hence the no-return policy. Instead of punishing the vendor with better inspection or returning the whole lot back, they punish the customers.
Well, the story started last year when I purchased one bag of strawberry roots at the same store. Every single root was rotten; however, the store manager allowed me to exchange for another bag, which was the same rotten garbage. The price then was $2.50, so I lost only $2.50. Then I thought, maybe if I did not wait and got the strawberries as soon as they arrived at the store, they, perhaps, would be in better condition. So, this year, I was checking on the arrival twice a week in order to buy the roots right away. Well, this year I purchased them right away hoping this time the roots will be better. However, they were the same as last year: every single root was dead – no life in them whatsoever. Not only that, but they also doubled the price to $4.99, so the damage this year was almost $20. The lesson learned, never to buy plants at Ocean State Job Lot and never donate a single penny to their endless fundraising. After all, I am not convinced that dishonest business will do any honest charity. I contacted the customer service and was told “sorry for your inconvenience.” Yeh, thank you for caring.
Well, OSJL, you stole $20 from me, but in the long run, you lost more and most importantly, you lost your reputation.

I ordered a gazebo online June 3

I ordered a gazebo online June 3. they immediately take payment for item their website states 10-14 days for shipping. today is the 17th day order says still processing. It takes forever on hold to get through to customer service. They do not answer emails or return calls if you leave them a message. After waiting forever on hold I am told they are running a week or so behind with shipping and after all they aren't amazon. Clearly I knew they weren't amazon when I ordered but 17 days and order is still being processed seems a bit excessive my payment wasn't processing for 17 days when they took it.

This store lied to me

This store lied to me. I paid $800 for nothing but frustration and grief thanks to ocean state job lot! I arranged with customer service and a local store to return a defective mattress. I was informed that because I did not have access to the original credit card they would put the funds on a different card. This did not happen at the store because of an employee error and disregard of instructions. In the end after dealing with countless calls, they did not take responsibility for the mistake and left me with no money or mattress for my baby and I. I’m writing this to inform people and potential business partners of their ethics. This was a large purchase and I did not imagine that they would ever do something like this. I will go further with whatever avenues I can find but the investment in time, stress and loss of money during the holidays as well as the ptsd triggering feelings of harm have taken a toll. I am submitting a small claim.

I like the store but I feel quality is…

I like the store but I feel quality is hit or miss. I bought a air fryer which was around $80 but worked only for 9 months or so. I bought wheel barrow recently only to find after assembling that the tube is leaking. I had to then buy another tube to fix it.

I like this store

I like this store. There are a lot of good deals but you need to be careful. Not everything is at a discount price. Just know your prices. Most of their prices beat Amazon prices but not all of them. The oddest of things are at full price, so just be aware before you get to the register. For example, greeting cards are at the price on the back of the card. That said, you can watch the sales and Crazy Deals and literally get items for free. For Insider Members (free to join) you can buy certain Crazy Deals that give you back the entire amount to spend in the store. And they have recently introduced a buy online and pickup in store service. You have to wait until it ships to the store but many of the items give you the entire price back to spend in the store. Not all of them. Some only give you a dollar amount back. I go on the average of every two weeks, so it is worth it for me. If you don't shop there often, then Crazy Deals might not interest you.

Now for the service, that is why the 4 stars instead of 5. Checkout is a slow process, depending on the day, especially if you need a price check. All the employees and cashiers are pleasant, but not all of them are knowledgeable as to the current promotions. It's best to go prepared and when you are not in a hurry. For me, it's worth the slight extra time for the discounts to be had. Their outdoor seasonal supplies are usually well-stocked and they usually have a small selection of plants and flowers.

Ocean State Job Lots, Disappointing...

This store/ company is just the rock-bottom worst! Went to the store I Valatie, NY, purchased a handful of pedestal fans; 3 of which are without-a-doubt defective. The store told ME to reach out to the manufacturer. I reached out to the corporate office instead, and they told me that THEY would reach out to the manufacturer. They did, and about 5 weeks later, they sent me an email stating that the replacements for the defective parts were at the store. I went back to the store, no one there had any idea what I was referring to. Called corporate on the spot and got absolutely nowhere. Left the store, came home, sent and email: NO RESPONSE. Today. I happened to be in the same shopping center so I stopped in to the store. Not only did they have no idea what I was talking about, they were adamant “ we don’t even do that”.
So thanks, Ocean State Job Loy, for stealing over $60 from this hard-working mother, for making no attempt at providing genuine customer service and for allowing your store employees to treat customers like an inconvenience.
