Absolutely too loud! There were at least 4 occasions during the film when I had to put my fingers in my ears for prolonged scenes as the sound was unbearable and actually painful. It was still too l... See more

Great visit to Odeon Taunton today. Staff were fabulous, very friendly, kind and considerate with us Silvers! I'd booked 4 seats online by accident and they kindly refunded the 2 we didn't need.

Visit to Odeon, Taunton

Went to see Hadestown with my husband. Great movie in some good seats with decent leg room. Only issue was no Costa coffee available, otherwise a good visit.

Genuinely Disappointed (too loud)

First thing is to say, that the staff were generally helpful, and the manager, Alex, was very friendly and rectified the problem to the best of her ability.

With the said, I was disappointed when my 2.5 year old daughter and I went to watch Tom and Jerry. Immediately, I thought it was really loud. I have been to the cinema before (although not for a while), and I don't remember it being that loud. It was at an uncomfortable volume for me, the higher frequencies were particularly ear piercing (I don't have any neurodivergence). The first thin my daughter said to me was that it was too loud, and looked visibly uncomfortable. I asked the staff if they had some ear muffs, and whether it was supposed to be that loud. Unfortunately, they didn't have any earmuffs or anything, but they did give us some headphones instead.

The person I asked about the volume did comment that it seemed loud. You could hear it clearly from the lobby, but I couldn't hear any of the other theatre rooms (we were in room 2).

The manager did say she turned it down a little bit, but it was still really quite loud.

I had assumed that the "Kids" screenings would be am more casual affair and that the volume might be lower. I had tried to ring up to confirm which screening would suit us, but the phone number just tells you to go on the website now. It isn't possible to speak to anyone, so I booked it blind.

The funny thing is, my friend had gone with his 3 year old to see a film recently (at a theatre on the other side of the cinema) and said it was fine. I trust his judgement - and I wonder if I just got unlucky. We left before it soured my daughter's opinion of the cinema.

I was going to suggest that maybe a toddler/children screening would be beneficial where the sound isn't quite as loud, but was told that the autism friendly screenings would be better (why I mentioned that I am not neurodivergant earlier). But, given that my friend went to a different viewing and said it was fine, it might have been where we were sat? Or the film? Or an accidentally higher volume? I am not sure. I would say, that if that is a typical volume, that is very likely damaging your ears, and will be even worse for children, especially toddlers - so proceed with caution. I'd also say, that it didn't sound particularly good either.

Alex, the manager, did process the refund and give us two tickets to book an Autism friendly session another time. This is fantastic customer service, but at the regular price of over £9, I can't risk paying £20 for two tickets and then having to leave if my toddler is having a bad day. Also, I don't necessarily want to intrude on those sessions, since we don't have a diagnosis, and my children would probably quite like to sit in a darker room, and, if the film is engaging, would likely sit there for 90 minutes without too much fuss.

It's a real shame, I had been bigging it up to my daughter for days, and just felt awful that we had to leave.

This went from something I was thinking of doing regularly, to probably not coming back. I went and bought some blurays instead, and have been quite appreciating my home hi-fi and TV setup recently. I just saw how much she enjoyed Moana and thought the Cinema would be cool. But, I think the appeal as potentially worn off.

Again, the staff were great - not a complaint towards them. Its a shame they didn't have any ear muffs.

Update: I have seen another review from today with the same complaint, I wonder if it was an accident.

The cinema was very clean and tidy

The cinema was very clean and tidy. When we went up to the counter, we were greeted with a smile and a hello. We order what we wanted and the service was fast and polite. After checking in to watch the film, the man went and opened the door for me and my little one as we had our hands full. Everyone there was very friendly and polite, were definitely going back to watch another film.
