As a happy Viewranger user I was…

As a happy Viewranger user I was 'forced' to migrate to Outdoor Active. Many of the useful Viewranger features have disappeared e.g. option to purchase OS tiles for pennies. It has become complicated and clunky to use e.g. you now have to share Routes with the world before they are available on another device. There appears to be only one objective which is to get you to subscribe to the Pro version.

Just a note on sharing of Routes. The Outdooractive app actually is better than ViewRanger was at sharing routes privately. You can share a route with other users in Outdooractive. You could not do this in ViewRanger - to share a route it had to be published to the whole community.

Rip-off

I was happy with Viewranger until Outdoor Active stole the maps I'd paid for. The greedy parasites will never get another penny out of me.

Once again, this is not correct. If you owned map tiles from Ordnance Survey, IGN, or other maps in ViewRanger - then you can access maps from the same suppliers within Outdooractive. You need to connect your ViewRanger account to Outdooractive and accept the transfer of your data from ViewRanger to Outdooractive. You do not need Pro or Pro+ to do this. Many, many people have done this. You will need to redownload the map tiles as the old ones are not compatible (the new ones are higher resolution and are newer). If you need help to connect your account or any other assistance, then please email our support team who will be pleased to help.

I was once a happy and satisfied…

I was once a happy and satisfied viewRanger user, Great app all the functionality I needed. Then it switched to Outdooractive. I’ve had nothing but trouble with this app, it constantly signs me out, leaving me without maps when on the trail, which is just dangerous. it has extra features that I didn’t ask for or need for that matter. I hate this app Anyway I was happy with the ViewRanger and they ruined it ☹️

Rubbish and miss viewranger

Have been using viewrangers for more than 6 years and enjoy all the useful features but Outdooractive is just a rubbish. Why do they remove OCM(which I think is epic and provides useful info like water supply point and toilet and distinguish walkway and stairs) and put those useless layers with a pro/pro+ tag? Maybe they just want to ruin a great app.

Very unpleasant experience

It seems like many others, Outdooractive have blocked access to the one time payment OS map tiles I purchased in Viewranger. I feel like I've been robbed by this company.

Please contact our support team. All viewranger users who had purchased OS map tiles have access to all 1:25k and 1:50k OS maps within outdooractive. You do need to connect your viewranger account to the outdooractive platform, and then agree to the transfer of your data from viewranger to outdooractive.

I like most reviewers am an ex Viewranger user. I bought maps for the whole of the UK and now that I have been forced to move to Outdooractive, no longer work, in my view this is theft.
I'm not going to move to pro and pay a subscription, so I am unable to download any offline maps. Last month I was down in Cornwall and the mobile reception was not good, so basically the app was impossible to use as I could not load any maps.

Brilliant app and website

I am amazed at the recent bad reviews for Outdoor Active. I changed to them after getting fed up with the OS Maps app constantly not showing my offline maps (and by the way now not working at all on the app).
I find Outdoor Active absolutely brilliant and it is used constantly on an almost daily basis. It does not drain my battery anywhere near as much as OS Maps did.
All in all I think it is brilliant and extremely good value for money.

Appalling app

If someone was competing to design an app that was completely useless, a complete ripoff, and impossible to use, this would be it. An outdoor mapping app with terrible quality maps, needing internet, with extremely limited options, and horrific functionality. Yes this is the winner.

avoid like the plague

Utter rubbish. The company has no interest in hikers and other outdoor users. The app is rubbish, unreliable, drains battery, the list goes on.

Viewranger was an outstanding app.. this is a pile of garbage

Pure and simple theft

Pure and simple theft. Outdooractive are thieves. They closed down the offline maps I paid for in Viewranger. I hope the directors sleep well at night. I am not stopping here.

Rubbish

Compared to the wonderful Viewranger that this replaced Outdooractive is rubbish. Making this change was an act of vandalism.

A disappointed ViewRanger user

As a previous ViewRanger user apparently I expected too much. I paid for some additional services to have at least some recognisable features as with ViewRanger. Even then the Outdoor app is rubbish. It let me down in the middle of walks, downloaded and prepared walks could no longer be found, functions behind menu options suddenly changed,…
I miss ViewRanger. To the Outdoor team: please be wize and bring this superior app back! Meanwhile I will stop my subscription.

I was a previous subscriber to…Viewranger

I was a previous subscriber to Viewranger until it was taken over by OutdoorActive. What a backward step. Lacks basic functionality (when it actually works). Inconsistent- the same things works than 2 minutes later doesn't. Totally unreliable. It's help videos are very poor. Just an absolute nightmare to use. Can't see how anybody could use this product on a long term basis. I only gave it the benefit of the doubt but ViewRanger was such a superior product. It should have been VR who bought OA. I definitely won't be renewing my subscription. Take my word.... stay clear of this product. It just causes you grief and frustration. Bordering on unfit for use.

Appallingly bad app

Appallingly bad app. Viewranger was fantastic and this has for some reason taken over viewranger and ended that app. So something that was about as good as you could get has been replaced by something that is just about as bad as it can be.

I have maps purchased on Viewranger, as well as credits still outstanding. Outdoor active say you can upload your account from Viewranger but that just does not work for me.

Look elsewhere. You have options.
