"Disgusting" is the only word for them and their behaviour.

I bought a new laptop just to catalogue my music collection. While being shown a few, i asked how i could be certain that i was not buying something faulty that someone else (possibly multiple people) had returned. I was told that there are now rules in place to make sure that this can't happen. But my first warning should have been the addition of the word:
"Anymore".
.
So, like a fool, i spent about £365 on a laptop. Very soon it became obvious that it was fit for nothing. Every time i turned it on i had to spend hours fixing the previous days work before i could start that days. It almost seemed to take pleasure in UN-doing whatever filing and cataloguing work that i was doing. But constantly finding loose album tracks (WAVs, mp3s, etc) buried in random places in the software is just ridiculous.
.
After a couple of weeks persisting, it was clear that this machine was no good for even the most basic tasks. So i went to return it. However, i could not get back to the shop (i live some way out of town) until 29 days after my initial purchase. I was told that you could only return products within 28 days, so basically "tough luck".
.
Basic consumer rights over a faulty product of this type and price are far more than just "return within 28 days or tough". So because of this (and my disability making travel difficult at times), my family kicked up a fuss at this blatant lie. And, after more than three hours on the phone, they were given a code for me to quote in store. When i did this i was confronted with bitterness and resentment, and made to feel like it was me that was somehow taking liberty's. But worse followed.
.
While one salesman grumpily went off to confirm my refund, other staff nearby (who must think having a walking stick automatically means that i am also deaf) started talking openly with newer staff about how they just wipe returned computers with an intelligent virus, repackage them with a clingfilm machine out back, and keep selling them over and over until someone just does not return them in time.
.
Then that grumpy member of staff pointed out that i had forgotten to bring back the £5 mouse that they had thrown in for free. So they took £70 out of my refund!!
.
This was not some high level gaming mouse, but a basic one that was massively over-priced at only £5 in their own store. I later bought a similar one for less than £5 from another store nearby.
.
Furious, i went online to research all of this and see if i was just unlucky. But it turns out that on multiple consumer websites, there are literally thousands of similar stories to mine, dating back many years (some even decades), all over the UK, that Currys // PC-World have somehow kept out of the headlines, and away from the general knowledge of the British public.
.
Somebody in the big, mainstream media needs to out PC World for this disgusting, systematic, and fraudulent behavior that they seem to have been getting away with for far to long.
.

Excellent Customer Service at Weymouth PC World

I needed to replace my Mobile phone. The young man who helped me at your WEYMOUTH branch couldn't have been more well mannered in Customer Service. His name is Jason. I am a 70 year old, unfamiliar with some aspects of technology, and Jason's professionalism and patience was a real credit to your company. Thank you, Jason!

Very Poor sales Service at Hedge End

Disgusted with lack of service and professionalism at the Hedge End Store Southampton on 21st August.
Called to the store just after opening.wanted to discuss a tv before buying. I asked 2 lads who were more interested in talking to each other than attending to potential buyers. One said he would help. I asked several easy questions which he had to refer to his iphone for answers. I asked to speak to someone with better knowledge of the product. After waiting 15 minutes no one came to me.asked another person who said he was busy!
There were only 2 other customers in the department. So after 30 mins in the shop I said I was very disappointed in the service and would go to John Lewis which I did . Tv arriving next day!

Home computer repair

My home computer suddenly stopped working which contained a load of work which had been saved only on to my computer. I took the computer into PC World in Enfield, and spoke to Stephen in the repair counter. I was upset at the thought of losing months worth of work. Stephen was sympathetic, helpful and extremely professional. He listen to my story, told me that it would be sent away for at least a week, but there was hope that it would be back within seven days, but prepared me for the worst. He even went to my car to collect the computer. I was kept up to date with texts showing progress. I received a message after six days to say that my computer had been fixed and was ready for collection. Stephen was there when I arrived and again I received the same outstanding service. After explaining what had happened, and me signing the form, he picked up the computer and returned it to my car. Thank you, Stephen, for your exemplary care and support.

Left click sunk didn’t fix it…

I bought 3 years warranty for a hp laptop the left click sunk. So I asked for it to be repaired. They didn’t put in new parts they instead “repurposed” it. It then sunk in 4 clicks! They also updated my BIOS which I didn’t ask for nor wanted. This was a year ago and I am still angry at the terrible service.

Gave my laptop for repair as it was not…

Gave my laptop for repair as it was not charging correctly and was told £85 for repair / replacement parts and if not done then full refund.
Sounds okay so decided to go ahead with this and paid my £85. Received a phone call a week later, saying repair not done as charging points are fine. Possible motherboard issue, would cost £350! Refused this and asked for laptop back and refund as no repairs were carried out.
Went to store and refused refund as apparently refusing to be ripped off means I lose my refund outright.
Shocking service, shocking repair centre and literally nothing has been done to my laptop except pc world are £85 better off.

Edit: spent all day yesterday on the phone to PC world customer service.. no help, sent email on 12/08/2022.. lets see if I get a response

Update: 16/08/2022 - received email from social media team as they are the ones who monitor trustpilot. However, cannot help as its a legal matter and just sent an email saying they cant help and wait for legal department. Guess highlighting Currys Group T&Cs and making a point is a legal issue!

Shockingly poor repair experience on 9 month old HP laptop

Took a 9 month HP laptop I'd purchased from Currys in for repair at their Aylesbury Branch as the glue surrounding the screen bezel was coming away and making the hinge on that side lose.
Sent off for repair and after a few days received a text saying they wouldn't repair it as it was not covered under HP warranty. When I called for details they additionally claimed it was also because that the laptop had been dropped (it hadn't) so would return to store. Explained this was not the case, hadn't been dropped, was only 9 months old, and I wasn't responsible for the glue HP used so to take another look at it. Same response next day - text to say wouldn't repair and would return to store.
Just collected the laptop today, stupidly didn't checked it whilst in the store and was only when I got home and put the laptop on the table the hinge panel strip fell off (so hadn't been put back on correctly by repair team) but when I opened the laptop I found that the hinge on the left hand side was now sticking out of the laptop (ie, no longer encased inside the plastic)!! So, they have returned it to me in a far, far worse condition than when I handed in for repair!
Tried to call store - of course there's no telephone number listed for each store, so had to call main customers services number who tried to connect me to store, and of course, there's no reply.
This has got to be the worst experience I've ever had with a company. Shockingly poor careless attitude - once you've made the purchase, they've got your money, they couldn't care less. So they've lost a customer with me - will never buy a single thing from this company ever again.

So cross - absolutrly dreadful service

So cross! The story so far - My partner has an insurance type product that includes a pc healthcheck. Just over month ago he got a CD stuck snd potentially danaged a lead connector and decided to take it to PCWorld for healthcheck and repair. Not a problem they said, will take 10 days they said. So we collected our PC connected it to monitor, internet and logged in- nothing. Completely wiped. Called the store and was told that's how it came in!! Took it back - received an apology, told it wasn't ready to be returned and not sure why we were told it was ready. Left it with them. 10 days later we got it back and connected it - couldn't even logon this time. No matter what way we set it up- zilch! I checked tge worksheet and it stated 'upgrade' - it was not in for upgrade, perfectly cspable of foing that myself. Took it back again. More apologies. Kept it to send away and would take a bit over a couple of weeks. Got a call to say all done so off we set - another 40mile round trip - and...... the hard drive was sent to the wrong store and they had one belonging there! So, not ready then. Staff all very polite, lots of apologies but 120 miles motoring and no PC for over a month. Not good enough!

Big fan

Always been a big fan of PC world. The staff are always knowledgable & provide great advice. I love the fact that if you need to talk to them, it puts you in touch with someone who works in the store.

---

edit - spotted a deal on the new macbook pro on monday. We had an issue with the finance (as we use PC worlds business finance). The chap on the phone did the whole thing for me & it was delivered yesterday - the next day.

This was the reason for my review in the first place - I was reminded how good the staff are when I was talking to him.

Honestly don't get the negativity. Sometimes it's hard to find an assistant in-store, but they are always polite & get to you eventually.

I personally think we should be supporting businesses who train and employ customer-facing staff, rather than keeling-over and ordering from a faceless-robot-amazon-packing machine.
