Peter Twydle - The Real Pen Wizard!
Five or six years ago I bought a Parker 51 pen and a Parker 51 Vacumatic from different sellers on eBay. Sadly the pens have lain unused until recently I woke up and decided it would be well worth having them serviced (both pens have a lovely balance and a quality sadly missing from many modern pens).
After searching for a suitable pen restorer I landed on Peter Twydle's site (The Pen Museum). Little wonder he is known at the Pen Wizard after following his late father into the pen repair business. I sent both pens to him in Hornsea. The Vacumatic 51 dates from the 40s and the other Parker 51 turns out to be a hybrid - a Mark III with a Mk. II cap (I wouldn't have known the difference!).
Not only has he fully serviced both pens and replaced one nib, but he had a spare Mk. III cap that he kindly swapped for my old Mk. II cap. His service is faultless and the turnaround time has been excellent. Both pens were returned today and I feel quite overwhelmed! Both look and feel like brand new pens and each one is writing exquisitely (and I now have a complete Mk.III model!). To say I am 'over the moon' is a complete understatement.
The cost of refurbishing both pens was extremely reasonable; I now have two beautiful, fully functioning Parker 51s that will outlive me and hopefully my family at some time in the future will continue to use and enjoy these lovely pens. Thank you so much, Peter!
