With the analogue purist in mind the Twenty Four P has a moving magnet / moving coil toggle switch and direct / variable level control over volumes for use with all kinds of amplification. Unlike the power amplifiers, the QUAD pre amplifiers utilise a completely new design. Together with transformers designed by one of the world’s leading authorities and relay input switching the musical signal is preserved in its purest form – pursuant to the philosophy of the theoretical perfect amplifier which as Peter Walker himself stated, is ‘a straight wire with gain’.
The second time I,ve owned a Quad 24p. You can’t beat the magic that valves bring in vinyl record play back. This model has a full bodied but not overblown or muddy presentation with great dynamic contrast and excellent depth to the sound stage. It needs 20 hours plus to settle and both of mine sat on their own shelf with polipods underneath. A fun, engaging and emotional sound. Maybe not suited to people who are into clinical, thinner sound.
