Dangerous
I have the AVIC-F80DAB and it has developed a fault which i now deem to have rendered the car unsafe to drive.
I have been in discussions with Pioneer and must say that the situation is so far unresolved but the following is an account that needs to be considered before purchasing their units.
The high-end unit (£1000!!!!) was already in the vehicle when i purchased it. The unit is now 4 years old and has developed a fault. Shortly after switching itself on the unit takes on a mind of its own, flicking between functions. This is annoying, but not unsafe. the unit also likes to operate the volume. when it turns the volume down this is annoying but not unsafe. the unit also likes to turn the volume to maximum (MAXIMUM!), and the controls will not respond. this happens while driving and in my view this fault makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. not only do i not have music or navigation, but i now cannot use my vehicle! Pioneer have not been helpful, claiming that it is likely to be something other than the unit that is at fault. this is okay because the cause has not yet been evaluated but i am without a vehicle and am receiving little support from them. The best bit: to replace the faulty unit will cost me over £1000. even better: it's actually unsafe to drive the car until i pay someone to determine the cause of the fault, and then pay to repair/replace the unit! If there is a crash while i move the vehicle between electricians and garages it may be that the faulty unit was a factor. I don't know how they are not concerned about this! Have a £1000 pioneer stereo and have to pay to have the vehicle transported between garages while the fault is determined.....is that acceptable Pioneer?
