I’m incredibly grateful I got to volunteer in Zanzibar so early after the location opened. Being part of the program in its beginning stages made the experience feel truly special. I only wish I had more time to experience, learn, and contribute even more. So thankful for the people I met and the memories I’ll carry with me!
My four-week volunteering experience in Paje, Zanzibar, was an incredibly meaningful and unforgettable time. During the first two weeks, I volunteered at Kitogani District hospital. It was a very educational experience that allowed me to gain insights into the healthcare system while getting to know the local culture and people on a much more personal level. Some of the things I saw and experienced really opened my eyes and gave me a new perspective on life, healthcare and the opportunities we often take for granted. For the following two weeks, I worked in childcare and teaching. The children welcomed us with so much warmth and enthusiasm every single day. It was incredibly heartwarming to see their excitement when we arrived, and I genuinely looked forward to seeing them again each day and helping them learn and improve their basic English. I would also like to say a big thank you to the accommodation and the entire team for making us feel so welcome. As someone with gluten intolerance, I was initially a little concerned about managing my dietary requirements abroad. However, the staff made a real effort to accommodate my needs and everything worked completely smoothly throughout the entire month. But without a doubt, the best part of my entire trip was the volunteers I met. The friends I made in Zanzibar made this experience truly special. Despite differences in age, language and culture, we quickly became a little family. We shared experiences, laughed together, supported each other and created memories that I will carry with me for a long time. I am incredibly grateful for these four weeks in Zanzibar and for everyone who made this experience so unforgettable. It was not only a volunteering experience, but a month full of learning, personal growth, meaningful connections and memories I will never forget. ❤️ Asante Sana Zansibar
