Written by the company

Portland Leather Goods was founded in 2015 when Curtis Matsko began crafting leather goods in his Portland garage with a simple goal: create beautifully simple, high-quality leather bags at a price people could actually afford. What started as a one-man project has grown into a global community of leather lovers, artisans, and repeat customers who believe great design should be accessible. We specialize in simply designed leather bags and accessories, including crossbody bags, tote bags, backpacks, wallets, journals, and everyday carry essentials. Our focus is on clean lines, functional design, and real leather that looks, feels, and smells like leather should. We source our hides from the beef industry, giving materials that would otherwise go to waste a second life. Our leather is tanned in award-winning facilities that prioritize environmentally responsible practices. Because our bags are made from real leather that is not synthetically coated or painted over, natural markings such as spots, grain variation, and occasional scars are part of what makes each piece unique. We own and operate our artisan workshop, The Studio, in León, Mexico, located near two of the most respected tanneries in North America. This close partnership allows us to maintain high standards, reduce environmental impact, and build long-term relationships with the people who make our products. Today, Portland Leather Goods continues to grow through word of mouth and a loyal customer base who appreciate simple design, durable materials, and accessible pricing. Our business is built around people, from our artisans to our customer support team to the community that proudly shares their bags every day.

The return/exchange policy is highly disappointing, but great purses and friendly staff.

I absolutely love my two purses, and the customer service staff were incredibly nice and helpful. However, as someone who shops online frequently, their return/exchange policies stand out in a bad way. Not allowing an exchange and only offering store credit for returns is highly restrictive and makes me very hesitant to buy from them again. Great products, but their policies need to be modernized.

I ordered a crossbody purse from…

I ordered a crossbody purse from Portland leather and it supposedly was delivered this past Saturday at 2:38pm at my home, I received the email and a photo of the package on my front porch but about 20-30 min later i looked on the porch and it was not there, i have left numerous items that have been delivered to me on my porch overnight. Not even knowing that it was there, and it was there the next day. I've never had anything stolen from me. From any neighbors or anyone since I've lived in my house and I've been here for 7 years. I believe the driver of the delivery truck. After, Taking the picture, he took the package. And this company did not care and wants to take me through a lot of emailing, you can't get in touch with any one through customer service and talk to anybody on the phone anymore and I am just frustrated, but I'm going to take a loss at this point because I don't have the time or the energy to keep emailing. So I will never order from this company again.

Very Disappointed

I ordered an "almost perfect" purse from Portland Leather Goods after being suckered by their ads. Having received it, I am disappointed and disillusioned. The purse only superficially resembles what the ads promised. It smells like chemicals--I know what real leather smells like, and this isn't close. The purse's color and size are as advertised, but the leather is stiff and thin, making it look and feel fake. The strap feels like plastic, even if it is some kind of leather. When the strap is adjusted to its shortest length to make it workable as a crossbody bag, the excess hangs down about 10", like a tail.

Underwhelmed

I was very impressed with the ads, but I have to say I’m disappointed in the purse I ordered. The style is nice, but the leather is underwhelming to say the least. I ordered the pebble grain which claims to be soft and will get better over time. It is not soft and it’s dry and stiff. I knew the inside was not lined when I ordered it. But there is only one pocket and it’s open with no zipper so the contents literally fall out inside the bag. The strap is long enough to wrap around a small horse so the excess hangs way down below the bag. I feel the advertisement and marketing for the purse is deceitful. Therefore, I will not purchase from them again. I hope they will appreciate honest feedback and make improvements to their product so that others will not have the same experience in the future. Come on Portland Leather, step up and make it better.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
I made a mistake on my delivery address on my order and have tried to contact customer service several times. They have no phone number that I can find and have had no responses to emails to customer support. I am very disappointed with my experience with Portland Leather Goods!

If I could rate a zero I would

If I could rate a zero I would! I bought a brand new Logan Premium handbag and within the first 30 days of use the zipper stripped and when zippered it remained fully open on the other side! I contacted by email with a picture of my issue. after 3 days I resent another email and picture stating they claim contact within 24-48 hours. Later I got a response I was baffled about! They do not warranty their zippers!! WHAT!??! You have to take it to a local leather cobbler- which we do not have in the rural area that we live! I explained that . then I was told to mail it to a cobbler. Which I will not do- why should I have that problem or headache?!? Then I was told to sell it in a resell marketplace !!? Like anyone would want a handbag with a defective zipper?!?? Their customer service is a joke! I now know why they only allow you to email them vs calling! No one would even try to say those things over the phone! Needless to say I am done with PLG. I have spent a stupid amount of money on handbags, wallets, littles, etc. I intend to contact THE BBB (with my emails) to see if they can sell handbags with unwarrantied zippers without disclosing that to the consumer! What a disservice!!

Canadian Buyers beware: NO returns or exchanges for Canadians

Be aware that even though they advertise free returns and exchanges on their website, that policy doesn't apply to international orders, including Canada!!

And, as I am writing this on July 1, 2026, this exclusion is nowhere disclosed on their website, not on the shipping page or their returns & exchange page!

I find this misleading and deceptive!

I learned the hard way when I wanted to exchange my bag for a smaller one last week and was told NO by customer service twice, even after asking very nicely for an exception.

Ordered a purse for my daughter and a liner for a purse my wife has. The liner came but not the purse. I was yold they could offer a one time replacement or refund because I did not add the shipping guarantee fee. I told them to reship the purse and a week has passed and still nothing reply or explanation. I was told by the customer service email to use their shipping guarantee fee next time. I have emailed them twice about no date for reship and they have not responded. There will be no next time. Unresponsive and poor customer service must be a hallmark with this outfit. I will be doing a charge back if I don’t receive any word. The fact remains it’s not my fault they used an unreliable shipping company, and now it is a me problem. Don’t waste your time and money dealing with Portland Leather.
7/2 . I just got notice they will ship the replacement after 2 more emails asking about shipping information, and man are they generous/s/ . They’re shipping the new one with out charging me the $9.95 shipping fee! Man that is just tremendous ! So grateful/s/

First and last Portland Leather Goods order

Placed my first ever order for the large camera bag in nutmeg. The quality is not good, it's wavy, bumpy, and the zipper is like a roller coaster which, I have come to learn, is a known quality issue, although PLG won't acknowledge it. I've requested a return authorization twice now through the return portal. I sent photos as requested. Since there hasn't been any follow up beyond the AI generated message, I tried reaching out to 'support' directly. The response was a link to the return portal!
The customer shouldn't have to jump through hoops for the privilege of paying $14.95 to send a terribly disappointing, sub par bag back. It's curious that the shipping charge was $9.95 to send it to me, but the shipping to return it will be $14.95.
Portland Leather Goods is a marketing machine which has worked for them up to now, but I hope consumers are wising up. I have purchased far more expensive bags, and, conversely, far better quality bags for less than the discounted price of this one. I have given ample time for a response, particularly since the response time is stated as 48 (business) hours.
If I don't receive authorization to return the bag this week, I'll have to pursue action through my credit card company. Maybe PLG will respond to them!

Horrible Policies - Mediocre or worse product - not customer friendly

My wife placed a few items in her cart to compare and inadvertently completed a purchase. She contacted the company within five minutes, but they refused to cancel the order. That alone is unreasonable. There was a three‑day gap between the purchase and shipping, yet they still insisted the order could not be stopped. The representative she spoke with had an attitude, likely because a cancellation would have required actual effort.

When the purses arrived, they looked more like thrift‑store items than quality leather goods — unfinished edges, rough cuts, and nothing resembling the craftsmanship advertised. My wife kept one, but even that one has a strong, unpleasant chemical odor that raises concerns about safety and longevity.

To return the other two, she must pay $16 in return shipping, even though the company only paid $5.95 to send the original order. It’s hard to understand why returning the same items, over the same distance, with the same carrier, suddenly costs triple.

In short, with so many customer‑friendly retailers out there, we will not be ordering from this company again. A business that refuses to cancel a five‑minute‑old mistaken order, charges inflated return shipping, and behaves as if they’re selling luxury goods while delivering mediocre products will not earn our repeat business.

The big companies dominate for a reason: they make customers happy so they return. This company seems to do the opposite — make customers miserable so they don’t.

Returned white purse

Returned white purse, requested a black one in exchange for, charged more because it’s supposed to be bigger. Where’s my new purse. Your return forms are annoying and confusing.

I bought this cute purse and it ruined my pants

I bought this very cute purse i was excited about, and it arrived and I was thrilled. Until i wore it with a pair of pale pants and it totally ruined them. I was at work and this was mortifying.

Their dye is clearly not transfer proof. I wish I had never bought that purse. This was one of my favorite pairs of pants and now I don't know if they will recover.

Oh, and i reached out to them and heard back very quickly, only for them to disappear.

Item purchased on Jun 7th

Item purchased on Jun 7th, they show it shipped but their trashy bargain-basement freight company shows that they have not received it yet. I reached out to PLG and was told I should reach theri freight company and ask them why they haven't received the package from PLG yet. I work in freight and that is ridiculous. Terrible customer service, and using a rock bottom company like UNIUNI as your freight hauler is in itself a disgraceful red flag for any manufacturer. Had I known that up front I would never have ordered in the first place. They have also sent daily text and email promotions since my order, if you want a second order you have to actual deliver the first one.

Order at your own risk !

Purchased 4 journal refills. Part of a gift I was putting together, wanting to make a few modest gifts seem nice. They arrived with 2 of the 4 bent. They were placed in a thin plastic bag, unbound, unprotected. Of course they were going to be damaged traveling the postal service. There is only one way to contact them- send them an email. If a product is damaged they want photos. I took photos, asked them to please send me a return label. I was told they were sending my request over to “ their team.”
I received my package on Saturday, they are not in on weekends so I contacted them early Monday morning. I got the email saying it was being forwarded, then a standard one that says it normally takes them around 48 hours to review. Well, it has been a week. We are back to Saturday. I found replacement journal refills elsewhere. But I wanted theirs as the journal it was for was from them. Purchased from my recommendation. Mine. The customer who doesn’t get enough respect to be acknowledged in a week ! My family and friends group are lousy with their “products” they compare them and try to make each other jealous on girls night, in a fun way, of course. My tote, wallet, and journal that I purchased was the first in the group. A mere drop in the old proverbial bucket to them, but it meant a lot to me. As does the unprofessional packaging of my items and the unprofessional handling of returning items .. By the way, this is a $27 purchase. For $27, they are losing me as a customer, and you can be sure that my recommendations will never go to them again. This week I have gotten countless emails advertising their merchandise, been flooded with ads for their 10 year anniversary. All things to rake in the money - but treat people poorly when someone there messed up….how rude. I do not recommend buying from this company. If there is a problem, even if it’s because of their mistake, YOU are out of luck. At least that has been my experience and my opinion.
