Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 277 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the subscription model, finding that services initially perceived as free later required expensive annual payments. People frequently encountered issues with pricing transparency, noting that advertised monthly rates often turned into unexpected yearly charges, and that free trials quickly expired, deactivating their QR codes. Reviewers also reported problems with the payment process, including unexpected auto-renewals and difficulty canceling subscriptions. The website's information was often criticized for being unclear about trial periods and the necessity of paid subscriptions, leading to frustration when QR codes stopped working after printing. Many consumers felt the customer service was unhelpful when trying to resolve these issues.

The app initially presents itself as…

The app initially presents itself as “free,” but once you start using it, it quickly shifts to a “trial,” then to a £12/month subscription. What’s not made clear upfront is that this is actually billed annually — meaning you’re committing to a full year (£144) with no option to cancel early.
This kind of pricing structure feels intentionally deceptive. The messaging changes multiple times during onboarding, and the true commitment is only revealed after you’re already invested.
A QR generator is a simple tool — there are plenty of genuinely free or transparently priced alternatives. This app relies on confusion rather than value.

Misleading "free" QR code — expires and demands huge payment

Misleading and predatory "free" service. I created a QR code for my clinic's printed marketing materials, believing it was free. No clear warning was given that the QR code would stop working unless I paid a subscription. Only after printing and distributing all our materials did I receive an email saying the code was expiring — and that continuing would cost an enormous amount for just a single QR code. This is a classic bait-and-switch. If the service is not truly free, that needs to be front and center — not buried in fine print. The damage caused to businesses who print materials in good faith is real. Avoid entirely.

Terrible

Terrible. Useless chat bot, no email given out for customer service. Highly questionable T&Cs. Took a annual payment from me without any pre warning and refuse to refund it one day into the annual contract period.

I generated a QR code for my wedding…

I generated a QR code for my wedding invite. Worked well enough. Got an email letting me know someone tried to scan the QR code after sending out my invites but my trial had expired. Immediately went to sign up. Thought to myself "$9.99/month isn't so bad". They charge you for an entire year when you sign up. Very predatory. No chance in hell I ever use this service again.

The worst QR code company ever…

The worst QR code company I have ever used. Try to force you to pay a yearly invoice without notice, but offers a free plan? However, only do so after you have paid the invoice.

FRAUD company

They say you can make a free QR code, after 21 scans they block it and you pay a lot of money to keep it activated! Do NOT make a QR code here! There are better options!!!

Free QR Code Turned Into $133 Paywall After Trial – Now My Business Cards Don’t Work

I normally don’t write reviews, but I want to warn other small business owners about this experience. I signed up thinking I was generating a free QR code and used it on my business cards. Everything worked fine during the trial period, so I assumed it was a normal QR code generator.

Once the trial ended, the QR code was disabled and the only way to reactivate it was by paying for an annual subscription of about $133. At that point the QR code on my printed business cards stopped working entirely.

Now I’m stuck with a stack of business cards that have a broken QR code on them.

After digging into it, I also learned this service is operated by Bitly Europe GmbH (formerly Egoditor) as part of Bitly’s platform.

If you’re researching QR Code Generator reviews or wondering whether qr-code-generator.com is actually free, be aware that the QR codes created during the trial can stop working unless you pay for a subscription.

For something as basic as a QR code generator, this setup feels extremely misleading. The code works long enough for you to rely on it and print materials, then it gets locked behind a subscription.

Lesson learned on my end, but if you’re planning to print QR codes on marketing materials, I strongly recommend using a truly free static QR code generator instead so you don’t end up in the same situation.

Very disappointing experience.

I would give this company zero stars if…

I would give this company zero stars if that were possible.

I used this site to generate a QR code for my business and printed 500 business cards with it. What was not made clear during the process is that the QR code would stop working unless you pay for a subscription.

After the trial period ended, the QR code on all of my printed materials stopped working. This cost me both time and money because I now have to reprint my business cards and replace materials that are already out in the world.

For small businesses, this kind of surprise is extremely frustrating and expensive. If you use this service, be very careful — the default QR codes appear to be tied to a subscription and may stop working once the trial ends.

I wish this had been clearly explained before I generated the code and printed hundreds of cards.

This is a scum company associated with…

This is a scum company associated with QR Code generator.io , and no one should ever use their services. They scummed 50 eu through a supposedly subscription plan that I never applied for and such fees where no where to be found on their pricing page.

When I contacted support of QR Code generator.io they told me the charge was not relevant to their company but was associated with QR Code generator.com (same logos btw) and when I contacted the correct support they same exact person named Allen was responding my emails as well.

A dead service out to scam the digital noobs

In 2026, there is no need for this service. Most businesses like Canva dish out QR codes for free. They know this. They prey on the fact that you don't, and will push you to pay and offer no refund. If you read this and still go with them, you deserve each other :-) Long live toxic companies out to manipulate.

AVOID AT ALL COST

Technically, all works fine, uses a nice interface and dashboard but commercially, these clowns have a LOT to learn. Operating an annual subscription without refunds but ... marketing a low monthly subscription fee to get those important sign up's.

Gutted I didn't do my homework before using these robbing, shady and untrustworthy operators.
Unless you have 1000's of QR codes to generate and maintain, avoid at all cost!

Misleading “Free” QR Code Service

I created a QR code for my website using this platform and printed it on posters after they advertised it as free. However, after a few days, they required me to purchase a subscription plan to keep the QR code active. This was not clearly communicated upfront.

Because the QR code stopped working properly, we faced serious issues with our printed materials and marketing efforts. This experience caused unnecessary trouble and costs for us.

I find this approach misleading and would not recommend this service to others.

The customer service is NON existent

The customer service is NON existent. Its been over one week with an urgent issue for a ticketed event. All i get in response 3 days after i make a request is eiether:
1. "we are working on you request"
2. sorry we are very busy, it's taking longer than expected.
3. a new ticket number when i am replying to the ticket. Which starts the process all over.
My event was ruined because i had physical advertising material with a QR code that had issues.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
There are no real people, you cannot talk with anyone. Says live chat - its bots and every response is our team will get back to you within 48-72 hours.

Unjustified Price Increase – Request for Immediate Contact

I was very surprised to see my subscription price increase from approximately €60 to over €100, without any clear prior communication or proportional justification.
Additionally, the fact that dynamic QR codes cannot be converted into static codes places me in a difficult position. This creates a form of forced dependency on the service, which I find excessively restrictive for users.
I am extremely dissatisfied with this situation. Such a significant price increase, combined with the technical inability to recover my own QR codes in static format, gives the impression of a locked-in model that lacks transparency.
I would like to:
Be contacted promptly by a representative
Receive a clear explanation regarding this price change
