Be very aware when trading a car in…
Be very aware when trading a car in with these people! We bought a car from them and traded an old car in which the guy offered us £150 scrap value which we accepted and bought the new car.
We then got a fine through the post as the trade in has been used on the road untaxed, we spoke to DVLA who told us the car was still registered to us and we were responsible for the fine.
We then went back to the Quarterbridge cars who said he’d had this before and he would write to DVLA to tell them the car was no longer ours and he had moved it on to another trader who he would get the car out of our name. in the meantime, we were still receiving threats of bailiffs from the DVLA
When we contacted DVLA we were told the car was no longer in our name but because the fine was issued before the change of ownership it still stands and would have to be paid.
We contacted quarter bridge cars who after the conversation about the fine and bailiff he offered to pay half the fine but were not responsible for changing the ownership because it was scrap! And it was not his responsibility as he had moved the car on as scrap, and we should have told DVLA even though we traded it in to him and given him the logbook, legally we were responsible! And he did not think it was fair that he should pay it. So we are now another £80 out of pocket on top of the amount we paid for the car. If you deal with this garage (my opinion is not to buy from them) always make sure you get the trade part of the logbook and report it to DVLA yourselves, as he never advised us to keep that part of the logbook, we will never be as trusting with a car dealer again.
