Product details

Brand: Keim

Keim Soldalit is a highly specialised mineral paint system based on a binding agent combination of silica sol and potassium silicate, for use on exterior surfaces. This combination allows the application of mineral coatings not only on mineral, but also on a variety of previously painted surfaces directly without the use of any stabilising agents. Top Features & Benefits Keim Soldalit's alkaline and non-film forming solution offers the following features: Highly water repellent. Water vapour permeable, microporous. UV and acid resistant, anti-static. High weathering resistance. Non-flammable. No solvents and plasticisers added. Resists algal and fungal growth. Cradle to Cradle Certified Silver Preparation & Application Substrate PreparationAll loose, flaking and unstable material must be identified and then thoroughly removed, all surfaces must be thoroughly washed down with clean cold water to remove all surface dirt and dust. When all surfaces are clean, sound, wind dry, dust free and free from all surface contaminants, decoration using Keim Mineral Paints may proceed. Highly absorbent or friable substrates should be treated with Keim Soldalit Fixativ. A base coat of Keim Soldalit Grob is recommended for substrates which have repaired or filled areas. ApplicationKeim Soldalit should be applied as a two coat undiluted system. Can be applied by brush, roller, or air-less spray with a minimum period of 12 hours between coats. For highly absorbent/roughcast substrates, Keim Soldalit can be diluted with a maximum of 10% by weight of KEIM Soldalit Fixativ. Application ConditionsAmbient and substrate temperature above 5°C and below 30°C. Do not apply in direct sunlight or onto sun-heated surfaces, nor if it is raining or if there is an immediate likelihood of rain.  Clean tools with water immediately after use. Easy to use, reasonable coverage and 'solid' appearence. Think limewash that looks like Weathershield. Basically - it's (as far as I can tell) a perfect finish if you want the opaque quality of a normal exterior paint on a lime-plaster substrate. However - eye-wateringly expensive - equivalent of around £200 per 5 litre. I'm used to - what - £40 for weathershield, and around £50 per 5 litres of a bespoke limewash - hey ho.

Exceptional, although not cheap, mineral paint. Works wonders on new render with a lovely finish that’s easy to clean, protects the render with great weathering protection. Would easily recommend both the Keim paint and Rawlins. Next day, tracked, delivery.
