Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 421 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently encountered unexpected extra fees, local taxes, and high costs at the desk that were never properly disclosed during the initial booking process. Customers also struggled to obtain refunds when travel plans went wrong, often facing unhelpful communication and very rigid cancellation policies from support. Some reviewers were happy with their overall experience, noting that certain partner rental companies provided good service and decent vehicles. These consumers appreciated smooth vehicle pickups and felt fully confident continuing to use the booking platform for all their future travel needs.

This platform is not a car rental company!!! …

The real problem is that this platform is not a car rental company!!!!
Only late in the process did we learn that the car was rented through "Go Record Car Rental". But even before that, they had agreed to take out basic insurance plus additional insurance. However, Go Record Car Rental will not accept this insurance!! And you are forced to pay full comprehensive insurance at the counter.... !!
The good thing was that we got the insurance we had paid first refunded by Rentalcars.com....

Very poor customer support

Very poor customer support – Booking 718352859

I had a booking through Rentalcars (Ref: 718352859) at Barcelona Airport with OK Mobility, and the experience was extremely disappointing.

At the rental desk, I was unable to proceed because I only had a digital driving licence. The rental company suggested a simple solution: change the main driver to another member of my group who had all required documents.

I contacted Rentalcars support, and the experience was unacceptable:

The agent could not communicate properly in English, Portuguese, or Spanish

The call lasted around 1 hour with no resolution

No alternative solutions were offered

I was told a supervisor would call within 24 hours, which is useless in a real-time situation at the rental desk

As a result, we were left stranded and unable to use the service we paid for, despite having a fully eligible driver available.

This reflects a serious failure in customer support and service delivery. I am now requesting a full refund.

I hope Rentalcars addresses this situation promptly.

Avoid this company.

this is just an advice to avoid Rentalcars and Booking.com, as they don't do more than ignore the customer and simple evidences and facts in a car rental that was charged when the car as refuelled with wrong fuel and after broke down, those irresponble staff simple accused me of being the one who committed the mistake.
they still didn't refund me and want to charge me more.

Avoid this company.
they still didn't refund me and want to charge me more.

Misleading airport

Title: Misleading airport rental – forced to rebook at 3x the price

I had a very disappointing experience with OK Mobility near Nice Airport.

I booked a car through Rentalcars.com (Booking reference 733409484). The booking confirmation stated pickup at Nice Airport and provided a phone number in case assistance was needed.

Upon arrival at the airport, the rental location was impossible to find. The phone number provided in the confirmation was not in service, making it impossible to contact the company.

After asking several people at the airport, I eventually learned that I had to wait for a shuttle. After about 30 minutes a shuttle arrived and drove me 15 minutes away from the airport to an industrial area.

At that location, the staff refused to honor my reservation because my commonly used first name appeared in the booking instead of my full passport name. My identity was clearly verifiable, yet they said the reservation could not be modified and had to be cancelled.

This left me on an industrial site outside the airport without any alternative transport. The only option offered was to rent a new car on the spot.

My original reservation was about €160 for five days.
The new rental offered at the counter was around €440 for the same type of car.

In other words, after refusing the original booking for a minor administrative reason, I was forced to rent the same car for almost three times the price.

This experience felt misleading and extremely frustrating. The airport pickup information was unclear, the contact number did not work, and the situation left me with no realistic alternative.

I hope OK Mobility and Rentalcars.com will review this situation and treat customers more fairly in the future.

No refund for no use of service

I booked a rental car for two weeks through rentalcars.com. When I arrived to pick up the car the rental car company wouldn't accept a bank statement and drivers license as proof of adresss. They required an electricity bill in my name. Due to my living arrangement I didn't have one in my name. Therefore I wasn't able to rent the car and didn't use any service. They said rentalcars.com booking.com were the booking agents and my money is being held with them. Despite me explaining I haven't received any service for the money I have paid. They refused to process a refund and are keeping my money in their pocket. The customer service person was just following their policy but I think it is an extremely poor company policy. The reason I was requiring the car was because of a siblings death this week. I could have done without having a load of money taken off me the same week. I wont be using booking.com or rentalcars.com again.

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. We booked with them for our Portugal trip but had to cancel our reservation before getting the car for an insurance technicality once we were there. They refused to issue a refund, even though we never had the car. I called their customer ‘’service’’ but they had no interest in helping us. I have emailed them several times but got no answer. In the end, we had to pay for another with a different company. We lost over a thousand dollars. Don’t book with these crooks.

Rentalcars.com hidden fees

Not The Rental Car Companies fault (Snap New Zealand). Rentalcars.com advertise "no hidden fees, know what you are paying" however the one way fee was "hidden" It was not shown on the advertised rate with rentalcars.com and was not shown on the renatlacars.com voucher in the section "Extras To Pay at Pick Up". Yes if you looked within terms and conditions there was mention of a one way fee however it was not quantified. I say this amounted to a hidden fee. A customer expects the fee to be disclosed preferably in the rate shown or at least in the voucher "extras to pay at pick up" It was not. For this reason I would not use rentalcars.com again.

Very disappointing

Our experience with this company was very disappointing.

We had a debit card, but they required a credit card, so we had to cancel. This happened just minutes after booking. While we understand a 48-hour policy when cancellations occur close to the rental date, it felt unfair here. We canceled almost immediately, and the company had the funds for only a few minutes. We never held the car long enough to impact them, so a refund should have been immediate. We feel misled, and this company was not flexible or client-focused.

Next time, we will choose a company that cares about the customer. Such companies should be avoided. They seem to look for any opportunity to extract money, and anyone renting a car should think twice about how they would be treated if they truly needed support. In reality, it feels like they care only about taking your money.

This company is a scam

This company is a scam, that’s like my 2nd time having to fight back for a refund when clearly I was set up to be scammed. I chose one airport for pick up, the system gave me a completely different island than what I chose. Once I landed I was left stranded. I couldn’t have access to the car nor a refund. I landed in Saint Thomas but the system allowed me to rent in British Virgin island. They stole my money until today I can’t get a refund. Hard to reach customer service, forgot about asking to speak to a supervisor or manager, somehow they never available. You have to wait 48hrs to even file a claim.

AVOID AT ALL COST!!

AVOID AT ALL COST!!
Turned up to pick up vehicle to be told they wanted a £2500 deposit. To reduce the deposit they wanted x4 times the price for the hire. To top it off they have refused to refund the original fee.
ABSOLUTE DISGRACE OF A COMPANY

Avoid at all costs!!

Avoid at all costs!!! These are thieves!!!
I rented a car through Rentalcars with mec company, full insurance and everything was paid in advance. When I arrived at the counter, they told me that I did not have liability insurance and that I had to pay $471 more!!!
However, this insurance is clearly indicated in my reservation, but they claim that it isn’t.
I am shocked and I will be writing to Mex as well as to Rentalcars about this matter because this is unacceptable!!!

Paid rental refused at pickup – no refund and no solution

I booked a car through Rentalcars.com and paid in advance, including the “Full Protection” insurance.

When I arrived at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, the supplier (Europcar) refused to deliver the car because I did not have a “credit card”.

However, I presented a VISA Business card issued in my name, with my company name on it, valid until March 2028.
It is not a prepaid or rechargeable card and it allows deposit pre-authorisations and international payments.

Despite this, the vehicle was refused.

As a result:

I did not receive the car

I could not use the service I had already paid for

I had to reorganise my entire trip

I immediately contacted Rentalcars customer support. Their solution was simply to ask me to return to the Europcar desk and use my phone so they could speak with the staff, even though I had already left the airport. No solution was offered.

Since then:

• I have received no refund
• I have received no invoice or fiscal receipt for the payment
• My complaint sent on 23 November has received no reply

At this point I am forced to escalate the situation through a VISA chargeback procedure and formal consumer complaints.

Very disappointing experience with a platform that presents itself as a trusted intermediary.

DRIVALIA is a Dart Charge scammer

Rented a car via rentalcars.com from DRIVALIA, Unit 37 Vicarage Field Shopping Centre, London, UK, IG11 8DG. I was visiting from Australia and was not fully aware of the strict timeline to pay the Dart Crossing charges. At pick up, when I asked about the Dart Charge, I was misled to believe that I could pay the Dart Charge when I return the car after two days. The staff should have advised me that it must be paid by mid-night of the day following the day of crossing, otherwise a penalty notice would be issued by the authority. So, I didn't pay until two days' later. This caused a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) issued by Dart authority. DRIVALIA received the PCN but didn't send it to me, nor did they pass my details to the Dart authority to issue a new PCN in my name. After more than six weeks, DRIVALIA first tried to charge my credit card for a high admin processing fee, failing which they forwarded the PCN to me at last. The PCN states that there would be a penalty of £105.00 if paid after 28 days. So, who will pay this huge penalty now after DRIVALIA has been sitting on the PCN for over six weeks? In addition, the total cost of car rental for two days was only £47.88. So, how justifiable is it for DRIVALIA to charge £60.00 admin processing fee to simply pass my details to the PCN issuing authority? You can guess where DRIVALIA tends to make extra money from. So, would be renters, please watch out.

Insurance scammers

You buy insurance through Rentalcars, but once at the counter they indicate that the insurance does not apply and that you have to take out new insurance. As a result, I had to incur additional costs even though it had already been purchased. Very bad from Rental cars and from Clickrent. From now on I will rent via Sunnycars. Then you no longer have this problem.

Snow chain Debacle from Drivealia at Linate…

Rented a car from Drivealia at Linate Airport through rental cars.com. Team at the desk not especially friendly. Turns out the car did not have snow tires or snow chains on board and we encountered snow driving to the Dolomites. Despite the fact that Italian law stipulate one or both, rental cars.com is standing behind the idea that it s the renters responsibility to ask/check…
if the cars available during booking process state “snow chains included in the price”, the car should have them, no? Had to leave the car and get a taxi to our destination and no use of the car throughout the weekend. Done with them. Booking directly next time and with global providers such as hertz, budget and Sixt. Every independent car company will find a way to displease and take advantage such as “you signed the contract” (yeah, in Italian!). The car from Drivealia was a Chinese SUV piece of crap besides.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!The most awful…

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!The most awful company to deal with as previous reviews their customer service is dire, arrived slightly over the pick up time on confirmation ( held up in airport with new passport control and not having Drivala car company driver available to take us to car pound) we were told our contract was cancelled and we would have to rebook ( originally paid £114 several months earlier) now wanted £440 for same car !!!! Then changed at least 4 more times telling us alternative cars available at all ridiculous prices, got through to customer service who said that they would refund us 4 days of our 7 days rental , we’re told we needed to pay another €120 for a different car, put phone down to customer services agreeing to this compromise, as soon as call ended agent in car hire company advised this car was now not available and we would need to pay €350 saying prices go up and down all time felt we were being scammed and decided to go back to airport and had to find alternative transportation to resort far from ideal. Called customer services back to be told offer had been withdrawn as we had left car hire office, despite promises of ringing you back to discuss no phone call ever happened despite having email confirmation Worst company ever as many others are saying to

Horrible company policy for customer…

Horrible company policy for customer care. We booked through rentalcars.com and we we were refused a car at pick-up because I didn't have my license for long enough. To be fair, this requirement was mentioned in the fine print, I just wish it was made more clear. In any case, the rental company was Hertz and they said they would refund the rental amount if it was up to them, but they couldn't because we booked through a third party. When contacting rentalcars.com, they refused to refund, even if the rental company itself would agree. So that is not good customer experience. They said it was their policy, which is fine, but it's not a good policy for customers. I thought rentalcars.com was supposed to make things easier for customers, but I'm afraid I was wrong. Next time, I won't rent a car through rentalcars.com, I will rent through the rental companies directly as they provide better customer care.
